Feel free to choose some of the more monstrous and weird races as we'll be spending a good bit of time in the Underdark, so they'll be right at home. Also feel free to not choose those and have an interesting story explaining how you got there from the surface :D

She served in the city guard, but she longed to see more of the Material Plane and had heard of a place called Faerun, which was full of light and life. Curious about this place, Karys decided to save up her money and once she had enough to travel, she took a leave of absence from her position, hoping to find a portal to Neverwinter. She enlisted the aid of a wizard who promised he could transport her there and charged an outrageous sum to do so. The wizard did indeed create a portal but when Karys stepped through she found herself not in a bright and sunny world but a place that seemed more akin to the Shadowfell. Little did she know but she had been transported to the Underdark, and it wasn't long before she fell astray of a wandering Drow raiding party that took her prisoner, destined for the slave markets of Menzoberranzan...

Tanis grew up in Icewind Dale, son of a half-elven fletcher father and human baker mother, accustomed to playing and hiding in the cold and dark woods. And always good with arrows and bows as trained by his father. The youngest of 3 children, as an adolescent, he ran away from home in Caer Dineval to Bryn Shander and enlisted as a scout under sheriff Markham Southwell.
He was scouting for a detachment on the tail of duergar causing mischief on the surface, down into the tunnels below Sunblight Fortress, when he committed the cardinal sin of getting out too far ahead of his party. He found himself blundering into the edge of a pitched battle between the same duergar and a small force of drow elite warriors in a deep subterranean cavern. The dark elves had routed the gray dwarves and Tanis was just not quite good enough at hiding to escape the sharp notice of the victors, who added him to their line of chained captives.
OMG I am SO ready for this. I have a character that will work perfectly, 2014 hexblade warlock. Looking forward to playing more dnd!

Quirks: He has a broken compass that he always holds when traveling.
Backstory: Dargron is 25 years old. Until he was 20 he lived as a hunter and blacksmith with his family just outside of town. At that point his family and him were attacked.
His family did not survive but he was saved by his Master, a Dragonborn monk named Alihazar and a cleric. Alihazar helped Dargron recover and trained him to hold his own in a fight. After Dargron had recovered Alihazar left to go into seclusion training. Now he is looking to gain the power to hunt down the creature that killed his parents.
Backstory: Nacht was not born, but created from strands of shadow. Its original purpose was to defend the worlds from threats, falling into dormancy and reawakening to new threats. Since it has been a time of peace, Nacht has been dormant for much longer than ever before. It now awakens once more, but its prolonged slumber seems to have made it weaker and given it a new mind. It was captured by the Drow during its dormancy, to be sold as an oddity.

Backstory: They are a rather chaotic tabaxi, whom likes to wander. When they saw a cave, true to some of the catlike nature of tabaxis, they went into it. When they got into the cave, they got lost, wandering around for days, looking for something they recognize. They found a structure, and went towards it, wondering what is in there. Then they went into the structure, and became a prisoner. (BTW they are a warlock of Corellon, and they set up stuff to do with here before getting caught)

Yet Marasatra’s human heritage was always palpable—her skin was a shade too light, her build less lithe, and her temperament less inclined to cruelty. Although she bore the outward signs of mixed blood, the temple allowed her to serve as a scribe, so long as she demonstrated the useful talents that could benefit Kiaransalee’s work. Drawing upon her keen intellect, she poured herself into learning drow script, history, arcana, and the sacred rites of her mother’s dark faith.
Over the years, her capabilities proved invaluable; her pen was swift, her eyes sharp, and her mind adept at connecting fragments of arcane knowledge. Even her mild skill in stealth—always under scrutiny among a people who walk in shadows—allowed her to quietly move through the temple’s corridors, collecting and sorting scrolls for the higher clerics. She also honed her healing arts in case any of the priests needed urgent mending during their grim rituals. Despite her mother’s disapproval of kindness, Marasatra’s natural insight and empathy often pushed her to help the injured and forgotten.
In time, curiosity led her beyond the standard texts the temple permitted. She found herself enthralled by the dusty corners of the library, where forbidden tomes on blood magic were hidden away. She believed that, with careful study, she could reshape drow theology, blending it with a balanced reverence for life’s crimson essence. Yet the temple’s strict hierarchs discovered her secret forays. To them, her unsanctioned studies were not a bold path of devotion, but heresy. Accusations of treachery soon followed, and the once-favored scribe found herself dismissed in a flurry of whispered suspicions.
Robbed of her mother’s protection, Marasatra was cast out, labeled a dangerous meddler in the eyes of the paranoid drow authorities. In desperation, she tried to flee the Underdark corridors, but her mother’s rivals moved faster. Drow patrols captured her, citing her “crimes of heresy and blasphemy” as grounds for imprisonment. Shackled and thrown into lightless cells, she waits—faith, intellect, and determination intact—for the chance to break free.

Backstory: Skold really couldn't tell you where he was born, although he's sure that he could find his way back to it - the exact location is always in the back of his mind like a beacon. It anchors him in the world so that he never feels lost, even if he doesn't know where he is. But he doesn't see any reason to go back to his birth place - why would he? He's already been there. And just as soon as he was old enough to fend for himself, he set out to see the REST of the world, and there's still so much more that he hasn't seen yet. The whole world is his home and he's fascinated by the sights there are to see, the cultures there are to experience and all the wonderful creatures - from this plane or others - that inhabit the world alongside him.
Recently he wandered into a cave system, following it deeper and deeper, fascinated by the variety of blind centipedes, spiders and other unique cave-dwelling flora and fauna which he had never encountered before. He was so engrossed in his exploration that he failed to notice the obvious signs of drow activity. They were...unfriendly....but also interesting - he'd never encountered drow before. They accused him of being a spy and locked him in a cell. Sure, he could use his ability to Wild Shape to escape this imprisonment, but he's intensely curious about these dark elves and wants to learn more about them and their culture, so he's content to stay put and observe for now. Maybe tomorrow he'll leave...or maybe the next day....whatever, he's not in any hurry.
