I am currently sorting out new campaign, so basics : this will require level 5 characters, standard array, its going to be done by theatre of the mind, newbie friendly ( this is meant to be enjoyable ). Now a bit of back story, the characters have already met and fought either together or against one another at some point. You can discuss how you would have liked to have met and set yourselves up as a group, however please note that your characters are unlikely to be saints ( lawful is fine ), think mercenaries, criminals, dark wizards, they don't need to be outright evil but they have to at least be pragmatic. Also your characters must have at least one point in a magic based class....where you are going non-magically inclined people aren't treated well.
You have ended up in Sigil ( you can set up how ) and been given instructions by the Lady or more specifically one of her representatives to attend a meeting at what looks like a abandon house, inside there is no furniture or anything of note, you can tell it is abandoned and has been for a very long time, how the fire is lit in the living room with a blue/greenish flame.
If anyone wants to join in then by all means PM and I'll see what I can do
Sounds like a fun little campaign idea to give a go. I run and play a fair few games, so if you want to shortlist the group, feel free to drop me out. Here's my character idea (kinda recycling a character I didn't get to try out much).
Name:Bram Polloth Race: Human (Variant) Class: Wizard (War Magic) 5 Background: Soldier Backstory: Bram is a mercenary for hire. She has been in Sigil for a few years, working as a mage to work for whichever side pays him well enough. She originally is from the land of Cormyr in Faerûn, learning the base combat style of the war wizards there. She fights his a dagger and spell, using his magic to his advantage in combat. She is one of those people who once bought will stay bought, so can be trusted to not switch sides last minute.
Question: For starting equipment, I've just put default starting. Is it going to be any more than that (such as the advised starting above 1st level that is in the DMG)?
Name: Andre Sjestmin Race: Half elf Class: Cleric - Trickery Domain Background: Charlatan Backstory: As a follower of Tymora, Andre fulfills his duty healing those courageous enough to risk their lives in battle for a meaningful purpose. A merc for hire that is bound by his tenants of faith. It would be a disservice to his diety if he didn’t run a scam or a cheated card game in the side. Believing in luck and fortune, when given a decision he can’t make on his own he is willing to flip the coin and follow Tymara’s guidance.

thats not a problem pokepaladdy, as for the starting gear I wouldn’t worry to much about that, basic gear is fine. The place you are going is sort of combination of cold harbour from elder scrolls and Commorragh from warhammer. Your character could have perhaps heard whispers of this organisation, it’s secretive, tight knit, they work either to their own devices or on behalf of people/ organisations of influence such as the Lady.
Would you allow the Blood Hunter class to be used? If so, i'd like to apply with this:
Name: Darùn Ethrelias
Race: Half-elf
Class: Blood Hunter- Order of the Profane Soul
Background: Far Traveler
Backstory: As the son of a human emissary and an unknown elvish mother, Darùn had been introduced to the arts and crafts of smithery. At some point, he discovered a secret and supposedly deserted hideout of a Hunter and as a series of murders shook his hometown, Darùn began to dig into the secrets the lair offered him in order to save her sister. He eventually made a pact and managed to fight the monster ravaging the streets, but was cast out by his family when they found out about the source of his new powers. His heart withering of bitterness but convinced that he was doing the right thing, Darùn began traveling the lands to free towns and villages of the twisted creatures he now knew existed.
Class; Oath of Vengeance paladin 3/ Hexblade Warlock 2
Background; Soldier
Backstory; Old War veteran, who's seen too much, he's a pragmatic heartless bastard on the outside, but its most certainly a facade, avoid getting close to others, so when they will die( because they all do eventually), he doesn't have to mourn them.
Now its not like he's unwilling to help others, but only if there is something in it for him at the end, no one works for free after all...
Was saved by the skin of his teeth by some bizare twist of fate during the War, those events are still a mystery to him, but some times he can hear the whispers, they tells him where to go, and they confort him...in a way.
Actually just seen Chaosrex has added his so I think I may have our little group set up. I notice that we mostly have a soldier theme so I reckon the party back ground should probably be based around you all being on leave in sigil after your last contract, probably having worked together you had met up to exchange stories and news
Haha funny you should say that I do have some notes for an arena style combat. Right I’m going to have a kip as I’ve apparently been up for 20 hours and it’s taking its toll on me. I’ve got a campaign set up but need to add the story etc to it
No worries! only problem is that im not home until somewhen sunday, so i dont know how much i can post the next couple of days if you want to give it a start already. Sleep well tho
That will be fine, the others can find out what’s going on and we will get the feel for the campaign sorted out. Sort out equipment, see what your first quest will be etc and then on Sunday we can have it so you guys actually start out that on the adventure.
Maybe we should discuss what we actually are as a group if we're going to be the Soldiers type.
Either a Proper platoon of Soldiers/special forces or a Mercenary kind of group.
The proper soldier group would enthail that we have ranks and a hierarchy, while the Mercenary troop can still have some ranks, it would be much looser on the whole discipline thing.
I guess that seeing the diversity of classes and races, a proper and coherent disciplined corpse would be out of the question, specialy if we want to go in the moraly grey area, and thus our merry band would fit much better with ther Mercenary type of troop.
Maybe a Band of Brothers in arms thing, even though we don't have to like each other or agree with everything, but in a tight situation we all agree to look for each other backs and do the job?

That would be fine the original members of this organisation would have been adventurers/mercs, criminals and all sorts as well, one being a borderline insane yet highly intelligent and dangerous Lich, an Ork of exceptional military prowess, discipline and leadership, a gloom walker and a few others they may have fought with one another, teamed up etc for contracts but they grew close over time. This organisation is their family, the people they choose while often misfits, shunned and outcasts that have shown skills or talent or something that has got them a invite to join. They do operate like special forces, assassins, thieves, protection, raiders, spies, espionage, monster hunters or even been the final knife in the back for heroic adventurers getting in their clients way.
Are these other pcs or are those characters npcs that are part of our group whether fighting with us or just people higher up in the organization?.. I personally wouldn’t mind having “roles” or hierarchy in the group. Ranks could make some good RP. We could just be part of a faction of Merc and have our ranks within that organization so it’s still loose and not strictly bound by uptight military style.
In this campaign the Lich etc are npcs( They are actually my characters that I just like to use as NPCs, I play them before they became what they are in my campaigns ) , they are your superiors kind of like generals/mob bosses, they are the ones you are ultimately going to be trying to impress and prove your worth to. The better your team do the better equipped and more important contracts you get.
I would suggest having some form of loose ranking structure, as it will play a part in this campaign. Always been a fan of things like oceans 11, the expendables etc so ill happily see what i can do if you want your character to have a particular specialism as well (monster hunting, robbery, information gathering, etc ).
Roles seem to be a good idea. My war mage is meant to be a battle tactician with a military background. She would be more of a command role if that were the case, but fine with just going battle mage as a magic trooper and starting as a grunt.
Well I would obviously be the medic for the group. Since I went trickery domain, I would prefer to play him like Murdock from the A-Team. Just pretend he is nuts to persuade/deceive people.

I’m interested, coming home from vacation today so it will be a bit before I can get a character developed, but I’m thinking cleric: trickery domain.

Yes mate you can have a blood hunter, it fits with what I’m going for and the back story would tie in nicely.

Awesome. Zariel and Darùn could've met to test who's hexblade patreon is stronger haha

Got room for another? I created him with the soldier background so he'd fit in to what you've got going so far.
