"Investigate what abominations did this, and put them to their final rest." Destin sums up. "It seems simple enough. If it means ridding the world of any amount of undead, I'm in. I may not be in Kelemvor's flock like you are; doesn't mean I can't despise unlife just as much."
Yorvir nods at those who have accepted, but still addresses the questions directly.
"Yes...yes, of course you need to know this to judge what we are asking," the Doomguide begins. "Sister Bethel was found underground twelve days ago. The poor woman had slash marks all over her back, as well as bite marks. There was" -- his eyes harden considerably -- "too much missing to identify precisely what did this. Sister Bethel said -- oh, yes, we asked her, before giving her all due honors and last rites -- she could not be sure of anything other than a vaguely human-sized shape."
"Underground, humanoid...these say to me this was no beast, but some undead abomination returned to the catacombs below Nothing revolts Kelemvor more but our resources are stretched thin up here, protecting the grounds, honoring the dead, and making sure citizens do not stray anywhere near dangerous areas. That is why we have taken the extraordinary measure of asking beyond the Faithful for assistance."
"Excellent," says Yovir. "Have you any preparations to make, or supplies to obtain, from us or from Phlan? The catacombs are underground, so you must be prepared for that environment."
"Hmm, I could use four or five days of rations. Would you have that here, that I can purchase?" Casmenos asks. "Other than that, I can see well enough in darkness, as well as create light for any of us that can't."
Tumal looks at Yovir and Casmenos as they speak, a bit of alarm registering on his face. "So we're going directly? And do you think this will take several days?" Before anyone can answer, the elf begins going through his pack and checking its inventory.
"We have access to the store, from which you can purchase supplies. We can supply the coin beforehand, should you require it to outfit yourselves. Though the catacombs are vast, as we have sealed off the inner ones, I do not believe this task will take you days."
"We can provide some small assistance with light, and with a capable guide, should that help you, as well."
"Of course," the Doomguide says with almost a smile. "Cassyt!" he calls. A few moments later, a young, bookish woman in the same gray robes who have seen on all Kelemvorites shuffles into the room.
"The time has come for you to put your knowledge to good use," Yorvir tells the acolyte. These are "Casmenos, and..." he trails off. "Forgive me, I never did get the rest of your names." He turns back to Cassyt. "But they have agreed to help us with our problem in the catacombs, and I can think of no better among the Faithful to help them and guide them."
At this, Cassyt blanches, but quickly recovers to say "of course, Doomguide."
Yorvir turns back to you with a small grin. "Yes, you will find our store has the same fair prices as the city Should you need an advance, we shall provide. I see that some of you suffer the same...affliction," he says, pointing to his human eyes, "as I do underground. Are you certain this is not a problem, and you need no assistance from us in this regard?" Without waiting for an answer, he continues "And it goes without saying that we will provide you every aid above ground, but the resting dead will not. I care not what you do with what you recover from the undead or the source of this problem, but the honored dead are not to be disturbed, likewise their possessions. Are we clear?"
In terms of their store, you can purchase any mundane item under 50gp at the normal prices in the player's handbook equipment tables. The Faithful are prepared to front the party the entire 100gp if needed to make purchases.
Agreed, says Marrow, thinking of the time he had given the young Casktoe twins a stern talking-to; they had believed their late grandfather had been buried with a great fortune and thought to dig it up at night, making so much noise that the town guard had been called. No graverobbing.
As for light, any help you can offer would be gratefully received. He turns to Casmenos: You said you can handle it, but I think it's good to have a backup, right?
"Wise words. We can give you two backups. You've met the first, Cassyt." He gestures at the young woman, who makes a gesture of her own, and Yorvir's gardening glove starts glowing with Light. He looks at her in what you think is mock disapproval, and she dismisses the glow just as quickly.
"I can also be QUIET," Cassyt says in an implausibly loud whisper. She chuckles, but goes quiet at Yorvir's glance.
"As for a second backup, we can lend you these," the Doomguide says as he fishes some glasses out of his pocket. These Goggles of Night will help a human see in the dark, or help somebody with that ability see further. " Cassyt smirks as her eyes start to glow eerily behind the Yorvir. "We have but one pair, but you are welcome to use it in service to this cause. You may decide for yourselves who shall use it."
Casmenos reaches forward and touches Marrow's weapon, casting Light. The weapon begins to glow. "I can do that at will, to any item."
((FYI, I'm out of town tomorrow and won't post again until Sunday evening. Casmenos will follow, and will cast Light for anyone that asks for it. I purchased 4 rations at 2 gp.))
"If all else fails, I brought a lantern. Just in case. " Bastian points at a functional tin miner's lantern, hanging from his pack. "Now, about those rations." Bastian holds up two Waterdhavian dragons.
Anybody who wishes to by something, be it food or equipment, mark it down on your sheets accordingly. (Ask me if you are not sure how, or of prices.) If you are looking to buy something that would be in excess of your starting gold + your share of the 100gp, you will have to talk it out amongst yourselves.
Tumal looks contemplative and a bit distracted as he addresses the Doomguide. "As I have fairly good sight, even in the dark, I will pass on the headgear. Sir," the elf says, changing the subject abruptly, "does your god, Kelemvor, appear to people? What I mean to say is if your god wished to ... give a task or job to someone, how would he do it?"

Casmenos nods, "It is my duty. Show me the entrance to these catacombs."

Keksi accepts the offer. "A guide would be most helpful, as we do not know the layout of the catacombs ourselves."
Casmenos requests, "I could use 4 days of rations. 20 silver is the usual rate I'm used to from my travels, will that cover it?"
Then he continues, "As for the guide, will they be able to defend themselves against undead, or will they require our protection during a battle?"
"Of course," the Doomguide says with almost a smile. "Cassyt!" he calls. A few moments later, a young, bookish woman in the same gray robes who have seen on all Kelemvorites shuffles into the room.

Keksi pulls 2 gold coins out of her cloak to pay for 4 days rations when the appropriate time for that comes.
"The spirits of the restful dead will not be disturbed, you have my word on that."
