Seid nods and gestures for the kobolds to lead the way. He calls up to his companions. “The brave kobolds have agreed to lead the way to the wizards for payment and cause us no grief. On the agreement of payment after we have finished our task.” He gives Jex a very knowing look before they move onward.
Jex gives a half shrug and grins. "Good, that all worked out then. Shall we continue?" He turns back into the tunnel, soon vanishing in the shadows amongst the Kobolds.
Bründir considers a response, but these cretins seemed to understand a bit of dwarven and anything he said would instigate a fight. He quite literally bit his tongue until feeling was gone and made mental notes of every crack and outcropping near his feet.

The air of unease between the dwarves and the kobolds is palpable as the group continue down the slope of the damp tunnel. Glistening ranks of the white-scaled creatures part before the party, leaving only a small group of the promised scouts, who guide them on through the darkness for several minutes. The kobolds never speak, seeming almost to ignore the presence of the outsiders behind them, until they finally arrive at the tall, thin opening through which Vark previously escaped the cavern where he found the wizards. The front-most kobold looks back and gestures, indicating that they have reached their destination.
On the other side looms an enormous cavern, the ceiling of which is thirty to forty feet up. The stream trickles off amongst the stones of floor, running off to the right, and the far side is further than sixty feet away, shrouded in shadow even for those accustomed to the dark. A cadre of hobgoblins can be seen stalking back and forth in the dark. There are at least six.
Jex whispers to Seid, appearing back with him from the shadows "Ask them if they were just going to let the goblins invade their homes or if they are going to fight to clear them out. This fight will be tough with no help and will alert the wizards with the noise. We need this over quickly and quietly, which does not suit most of our friends here." He gestures back at the steel clad group marching behind them.
As Jex mentions a need for discretion and looks back at the group, Vark pipes up after having been silent for most of this ordeal. “I could uhm... I could do the fog thing again. Like on the bridge.”
Seid leans over to speak to the kobolds while Vark strategizes with the others. "Visp ve, majestic arytissi, geou wux stand ini vur shala nomenoi nurilt rekisixi undermine dout chaq ini sventir nomenoi anqui loaw? Usv geou wux lleisgar ekess wer cep vur prove ekess udoka dout janik? Yth re plythu vur nomag rigluin dout latal. Svabol yenta wux? Geou wux slathalin? usv geou wux houpe hefoc vraktor?"
"Tell me, majestic warriors, will you stand by and allow these lesser creatures undermine your valor by destroying these goblins alone? Or will you rise to the task and prove to us your might? We are weak and may need your aide. What say you? Will you fight? Or will you hide like children?"
Vark nods and steps forward a little. Then with a wave of his winged staff and a primordial word, a billowing fluffy cloud begins to swirl and spread out of the darkness in the area that the goblinoids are patrolling.
The kobold scouts gather around Seid, as the wizard challenges them to take up arms against the goblins. Each of the wretched creatures is hunched before the human, furtively glancing left and right at each other with flickering tongues. They are unused to anything resembling respect from the surface dwellers, and one of them soon draws itself up to its full, yet pitiful height.
"Yth svent wer anqui! ihk wer Sherternocki!" It declares to its comrades in a sharp whisper, and scuttles off towards the opening into the cavern.
"We kill the goblins! For the Sheerscales!"
The others quickly follow, slipping into the cavern and readying their shortbows. With hitherto unseen skill from such tiny warriors, they unleash a barrage of arrows at one of the hobgoblins. It instinctively twists to let its chainmail take the brunt of the assault, as finely honed reactions born of a lifetime of military training kick in. Nevertheless, it's left battered and bruised, and a single, well-aimed shot pierces the flesh of its thigh.
Simultaneously, Jex lets his own arrow fly. Striking from the dark, before Vark's fog cloud erupts, obscuring a large portion of the cavern.
Bründir rushes to the midst of the kobolds behind cover. From within the cloud bank, hobgoblins see a strange aura coming, but its light is refracted against the mist and seems much larger. As they piece together the situation, a bolt shoots through the fog, revealing the exact nature of this presence.
"Stuck 'tween rocks an' a hard place. Army's dead or gone, Kung's dead, Sheercleft's huntin' ye down, an' now kobolds've thrown in with us. Shite...might as well 'ave th' mountain come down on ye too. What say we just lay down weapons an' talk?" Bründir gives a wave to the kobolds to lower their weapons.

Seid takes a moment to let his peripheral vision track the dim light movement in the darkness beyond. He spots a faint glow moving around in a suffused light. ‘That must be within the fog cloud Vark conjured.’ Seid moves up, but keeps behind his comrades as he conjures a faint humanoid shape within the cloud nearby, hoping the hobgoblins will see the shape and believe it to be an enemy to attack.
Annoyed that his first arrow failed to find its mark, Jex makes no mistakes with his second, sending it straight through the temple of an unsuspecting hobgoblin. He steps back out of sight before anybody can pinpoint his position.
Bründir moves up behind Thurston and lays a hand on his shield. The light from his own fades and regrows from the paladin's. "Well, we've made ourselves known I s'pose. What do ye say, care to talk instead o'dying?"

Thurston moves forwards, now that he has the light coming out of his shiled he feels more more confident. He then sees one of the hobgoblings and drop the shield to the ground so he can load and fire one arrow. But the combination of the bright light just under his feet, the shadows and the fog make him miscalculate the distance and the arrow flies too high and get lost in the darkness
"Well " he says " At least this one do not break..."
Hurrig strides forwards, advancing into the cavern behind the kobold scouts. With a touch of his holy symbol and a brief prayer, he calls upon Moradin to aid him, and a golden hammer appears besides the front-most hobgoblin. The sudden attack catches the soldier off guard, dealing a devastating blow that leaves its helmet visibly bent inwards. The cleric follows up with a shot from his crossbow, but the bolt is repelled by the hobgoblin's chainmail.

The golden hammer swings again, but this time the blow is only glancing and the hobgoblin's armour absorbs it. Keen to finish his foe before it can react, Hurrig mutters a final, dark incantation, and the hobgoblin wails as its life-force is drained from within, before collapsing to the ground.
Hurrig deals 4 force damage to Hobgoblin 3, reduced to 0 by DR. Hurrig deals 8 necrotic damage to Hobgoblin 3.
Uninterested in negotiation amidst the blood-lust that Seid has inspired in them, the kobolds advance behind Thurston, launching another volley of arrows into the mist. Their aim is true, but once more their shortbows are foiled by the heavy armour of the hobgoblins, and only one shot bothers the target at all.

As two of his men drop around him, the leader of the hobgoblin unit begins barking orders at the others. They draw together, seeking cover and falling back into the darkness. However, Bründir's words seem to have hit a nerve, and he soon receives a shouted response in heavily accented Breannian.
Seid continues to move up behind the rest of the group and as he spots one of the hobs lurking in the shadow he targets him with a mind-affecting Spell. He removes a small bell from his pouch and rings it quietly, but watches as the spell has no effect upon the creature.
Hearing the hobgoblin's words, Vark looks around the cavern trying to determine what they should do. The group had wanted to avoid a drawn out fight, the mages were their real target and this was a distraction. Plus, seeing how easily the armored warriors deflected the party's attacks, continuing to fight would surely be lengthy. So as a show of good faith, Vark drops the bank of fog currently obscuring the hobgoblins, allowing the multiple light sources to clearly illuminate the area.
Jex also doesn't want to break the truce, sticking to the shadows he keeps a close eye, ready to take out another hobgoblin at any sign of aggression or trickery.
Vark's mist clears away to reveal a pair of bloody corpses and a defensive hobgoblin formation. Across the cavern's open floor, the kobolds had their next volley trained until Bründir leapt up to the rocks, "Stand down! Stand down all of ye! Seid, help me out 'ere with these ones so I don' make a fool of m'self."
"Now then," the dwarf begins, "Like I said, the town's taken back, Warlord Kung's dead, an' we want answers. If ye give us that, ye'll be fine. My weapon's tucked away," he turns to show Dumdrengi sheathed behind his shield and his crossbow on the ground, "We'll all do the same if ye do too."
