Seid focuses on the dark square as he looks into the arcane world and the twisted fabric of the magical auras. “Interesting... this is a Darkness Spell within. I imagine we must find a way to remove this cube.” He turns to see Thurston with his hammer held high. “Sir Thurston, hold!” He rushes over to stop the paladin. “Let is try other things first perhaps?”
The norscan holds his hand but he seems a little bit dissapointed.
"Yeah sure..."he replies to Seid but he can swear that he gives the cube the stern eye as if he was looking to a thug on a tavern.
He takes a few steps back allowing Seid to inspect the thing. After a few seconds the wizard can hear him saying to himself "Sir Thurston... hehe, Sir!"
Vark looks around the room with wonder, still riding the adrenaline of completing the last puzzle. He runs over to Seid and Thurston near the cube. “Maybe we need to light it up!” he says while pointing at the glowing cube in the relief. He’d seen the clerics illuminate things with magic before, and with his new surge of confidence he’s sure he can achieve the same simple effect. A spark of lightning jumps from his hand to the cube, and the object fills with a cold white light, accompanied by a slight buzzy hum.
Bründir steps across the hall to the iron door, "I think the thing's got somethin' to do with this door 'ere. Not sure what th' snakes an' rats're about, but I'm stayin' 'ere to be safe." He draws Dumdrengi as the feeling of unease grows in the back of his head.

Jex has been silent since entering the doorway, his mind puzzling over the inscription, he was very familiar with how dangerous snakes could be if not kept properly. He mentally kicked himself for not bringing his pipe and instead fixes his buckler to his arm where he sits in the shadows. He looks up at the ceiling for any sign of some light source that may need to be used. Catching sight of the lantern and mystical lights he hisses "Perhaps those lights are the ones we need to send there?" He begins to climb one of the boulders to get a better view across the terrain, and escape any potential snakes.
"There is also some sort of rod within the darkened hole. A rod of some design. I believe it may have something to do with the lights or possibly the lantern. It is difficult to say. Should we pull it? Jex you seem to be good with locating things. Perhaps you may see if this room is trapped in any way?"
Seid looks around at the scene once more, judging the size of the lantern and the hole. He looks at the lantern and the depiction as he focuses on it and he moves his hand around as if manipulating it. The lantern lifts up and slowly lowers toward the group. It then begins to float towards the black hole and disappears into the maw, taking most of the light with it. Seid tenses as nothing happens and they all wait quietly for several moments before he withdraws the lantern. Seid frowns as he takes the chain and holds it aloft as he uses the same magical powers to pull the lever… a quiet squeal of metal groaning sounds in the chamber as the door cracks open with a loud sound. Seid turns to his companions with a satisfied smile. He gestures to Jex. “After you, sir.”
As Seid pulls the lever, the sound of machinery can be heard grating from behind the stone walls. There's a series of whirrs and ticks, and then a clunk as the door unlocks. It swings open with a metallic creak, revealing a circular room that is forty feet in diameter. The chamber is dark, with walls and floors of stone, and there is another closed metal door on the far side. Unlit braziers up stand against the wall, flanking the doors on both sides of the room, and a series of five foot deep alcoves are set into the walls to the left and right.
In the middle of the room there is a statue of a dwarf resting both hands on the haft of a hammer, with its head resting on the floor. A round shield marked with concentric circles and a suit of plate armour lean against the hammer on each side. All of them appear to be carved out of stone. There is a necklace of keys carved around the dwarf's neck, and it is looking directly at a statue of a basilisk, which is standing in one of the alcoves on the wall.
Jex walks carefully into the room, checking for pressure plates and transferring the weight from his feet lightly and gradually as he goes. Cautiously placing his left foot forward he feels it give slightly and leaps back covering his face, braced for an explosion. After a tense second he pulls himself to his feet, clears his throat and, a little red faced, moves back forward. Placing his foot firmly on the tile this time he gives it a wobble back and forth to show that it is just a loose tile.
As he examines the scene before him he frowns. "Perhaps we should cover the eyes of the basilisk?"
“Good job Seid!” Vark exclaims as he solves the deceptively simple puzzle. There is a glowing confidence to the boy; he clearly feels a sense of camaraderie as he is included in what he perceives as the “problem solvers” of the group along with Jex and Seid. This feeling fuels his curiosity as they enter the new room. Once Jex determines that there are no traps, Vark begins to flit about. “That’s a good idea? Or... or maybe the dwarf statue can turn?” Vark tests his theory to no avail, but he does notices dwarven inscriptions on the stone items. “Oh! Guys! Look!”
Bründir walks up alongaide Vark and kneels down close to the inscriptions, "Rikkazarik...King's Hammer. Then let's see...Karakarin, Enduring Shield. Last we've got....Karakaklad, Enduring Armour. So what the 'ell's all this got to do with a basilisk statue?"

Jex shrugs as he attempts to cover the Basilisk statue with the side of his cloak. "Maybe nothing? Could just be the names this dwarf gave to his prized possessions in life? I think we need to get the key from his neck to open the door." He glances back hopefully as he covers the eyes of the statue, hoping for some change in the dwarf.
"That was... unexpected" says Thurston as he approaches and takes the hammer with curiostiy. "Rikkazarik you said?" he asks to Bründir, surprisingly getting the name at the first try for once.
As Thurston attempts to lift Rikkazarik, he finds that it is incredibly heavy. Even for the enormous Norscan, the weight is far greater than what one would expect of a weapon of its size.
At first, it doesn't seem like he's going to be able to move the hammer at all, but then something seems to shift and it slowly comes away from the ground with a dull crunch as it leaves the stone floor. Karakarin and Karakaklad, which until now had been pinned to the ground by Rikkazarik, also clatter loose from their positions. The shield rolls in circles a couple of times, before settling with rattle.
Now that the hammer is in Thurston's hand, the weight falls away and it is light. It seems perfectly balanced, better than any weapon he has ever held.
The norscan looks at the hammer almost with a fun expression on his face, still a little bit red for the unexpected effort.
"Now... You were a little bit sleepy, weren't youRikkazarik? All that time turned into stone made you think you were of stone is that right?" he swing the hammer a couple of times, slowly, pondering its weight and balance " But you aren't my friend. In fact you aren't meant to be lying on a statue... you are meant to be held on battle aren't you? What do you say Rikkazarik? Want to come with me and remember the thrill of the battle? "
"Well I certanly didn't expect that to work. Didn't we learn that... " he thinks for a second for the word " to unturn someone from stone was really difficult? I guess that it's different with basilisks statues than real basilisk..."

Jex feels around the door, and then carefully into the hole. After a couple of tense minutes, he pulls his hands back.
"The rod is definitely a lever of some kind. I think pulling it without the right set up here is probably a bad idea though."
