Valaith listens to the talk of trade agreements and bandits for a time, worrying less about how the folk will be affected and more about whether she will actually get paid for the endeavor. “If we are guaranteed payment then I will gladly join your venture. Bandits are nothing compared to the enemies I have faced.” She reaches back and pats the handle of her massive hammer.
The next morning the storm has passed, leaving crisp cloudless skies and sub-zero temperatures in its wake. Frost lines the rocky streets where the unlikely group of six companions have gathered along with Grothir's trading party outside the mine's central administrative building to seek an audience with the governor, garnering them a number of odd looks from miners passing by. This building is the topographical twin of Ringrut's tavern, located in the centre of the westerly half of Sheercleft, known as Quenlan Row. Two human guards bearing pikes stand guard either side of the entrance.
Grothir looks about wearily.
"Ooh me 'ead... what'd'y say I agreed to last night?"
Vark stands on the fringe of the group, not paying much attention to the present conversation. Instead he gazes at the town, still enraptured by the scenery, while absent mindedly creating tiny flurries in the snow with his gust cantrip.
Archibald tugs on Varks coat to get his attention. “Stay sharp, you want them to take us seriously if we are going to get in on this job. Maybe do that wind thing though when we enter.... really make an entrance ya know.”
Valaith looks about with a slight smile as the group gathers, despite the cold weather. “Do not be so glum! The storm has broken and it is a beautiful day!” Her breath fogs in the crisp air as she speaks, bare arms enjoying the small amount of warmth from the sun. “Perhaps a friendly wager to see who can put down the most bandits before the end!” She grins and glances around to see if anyone shows interest.
Vark's gaze is drawn to the enormous array of scaffolding, pulleys and cranks that line the edge of the ravine in the centre of Sheercleft, bearing the rickety platforms that carry the miners up and down. Meanwhile, the guards laugh to each other at Sylelor's demands.
"'E's busy with your mother, slit-ears," one remarks, laughing inanely at his own joke.
"Or woz it your father?" Asks the other. "I couldn't tell."
"OI! You lay off 'im. We're going in to see the Gov'ner. Now move aside." Hurrig stands tall, well as tall as he can. He begins to walk toward the door and bang on it to be let in.
This is exactly why Syl did not want to join this venture. Syl said nothing in response and pulled out his bow and arrow. He then walked away from the entrance a bit and fired his bow, aiming just above the head of the guard, not wanting to his the guard but wanting to scare him.
“Oh, yes I can do that!” He responds to Archie. He smiles and is about to respond to the friendly goliath woman before the sound of an arrow being let loose cuts him off. “Uh oh... this uhm... doesn’t look so good. M-maybe... well if they don’t let us in, we could talk to the elves instead.”
The guards frown at Hurrig's attitude, unimpressed and cross their pikes to block the way. At the same time Syl's arrow sails far over their heads and clatters against the building's wall before falling to the ground. Both shoot the half-elf a look as cold as the weather.
"That supposed to impress us? You're done here, mut, once Anders hears about this. Say goodbye to your meal ticket."

Valaith stands back to let the others do the talking until suddenly weapons are drawn and arrows fired. She jumps in between the two groups with her arms out. “Put down your weapons! There was no need for such comments and even less need for weapons to be drawn in town!” She glances over at Syl before turning back to the guards. “We would like to talk to the governor about handling some problem bandits for th town.”

Archibald steps forward “gentleman, gentleman... I believe we got off on the wrong foot here. I think this is a clerical error. You see, we have an appointment with the governor. It’s written right here” - Archibald hand them four gold each. “Now if you excuse us I’m sure we can forget all about this and we will go right in.”
Caving in the face of Archie's congeniality and the proffered gold, the guards raise their pikes and begrudgingly let the party through.
Inside, a human female sits behind a desk in the reception room. This is Katie, Quinton's personal assistant. Behind her a flight of stairs leads to the upper level where the governor has his office.
DC 10 Perception Check:
Voices can be heard from upstairs. The governor is clearly already in conversation with somebody.
Syl was starting to like some of these strangers that dragged him into the adventure. Especially that Archie. When Syl walked into the office he could clearly hear that Quinton was talking to another Elf. He whispered to Archie that fact but did not say anything to Katie as he was slightest embarrassed about his reaction to the guards.

As the group enters, Vark creates a gust of wind, billowing the clothing of the party dramatically, as Archie had suggested. He grins, proud of himself.
