"Does turning the lever back close this pit?" Lumiere suggests, since Mage Hand is apparently an option. "I would like to see if these traps have ways of being turned off for a better idea as to what will happen should we come across any further ones."

Yes, Mage Hand is always an option. Use it freely.
Jerigg makes some gestures and an ethereal hand appears in the air. He directs it to the lever trying to move it once again. The hand grasps the lever, pulls it in its original place and the pit in front of the chest closes with a loud sound of sliding stones.
Yes, your servant went into the mist and didn't come back
"There's the colored stones," Ubogri says. "If we can't force open that hidden door, perhaps we should stand at the cave entrance and have the dragonborn's mage hand probe those strange stones."
"The riddle speaks of shunning green, and night's good colour. Perhaps it links to these stones." Lumiere offers, headed back over to the archway to investigate the coloured stones mentioned.
Ubogri rolls his eyes as the female walks back toward the archway. "There is no green stone. Yellow paint mixed with blue paint does make green paint. However, why orange would be 'night's good color' is unknown to me."
Lumiere will go back to looking along the patterns along the wall again, seeing if any of the three colours make any significant pattern along the mosaic.
(OOC: On the picture you shared, is that door beside the chest there?)
While Lumiere backtracks once again the corridor the mage hand materialises in front of the archway. Jerigg makes a gesture and the hand touches the uppermost stone and it starts shining blue. Then, after a few seconds, it becomes normal stone again.
Lumiere doesn't find anything that the others didn't find.
On phone so no spoiler option. I hope you don't mind if I do automatic actions for you like the hand touching the stone. I'll do them if you're ok with that only if it's something innocuous. And yes pokepaladdy, the door with the hands is the painting that Falmo found

Ubogri mumbles to himself, "Yellow and blue make green. Yellow and orange make ... light orange? Orange and blue make ... brown?" He then speaks up, "Dragonborn, after you're finished probing the wall, try touch with your mage hand the yellow and then orange stones to see if anything happens."
"Given there are three coloured stones I would assume it would require all three to be pressed. There are different orders in which to press them though. Blue, Orange, Yellow. Blue, Yellow, Orange. Orange, Blue, Yellow. Orange, Yellow, Blue. Yellow, Blue, Orange. Yellow, Orange, Blue."
Lumiere ponders aloud as she looks at Uborgi and the archway.
"I'm not about to assume anything,"the half-orc says with impatience, "I'd like to first see what happens when two stones are pressed. To see if there is any different outcome than when just one was. Depending on what happens, we might be able to make our next step more logically."
The hand first floats to the wall and knocks on it, with no visible results. Then it goes back to the arch and proceeds to touch the stone that was orange. It starts glowing for a bit in a shining orange light and then turns off after a few seconds.
Since Mage Hand is a cantrip I can repeatedly cast it. I give everybody -player and DM- freedom to use it. I can’t be on 24/7 and I don’t want the party slowed down waiting to poke something.
I utter more mystical phrases and use the Mage Hand the press each color combination pausing a little after each combo to see any results. “Is being like child’s game, except if lose, we die. HAH!”

The pit is deep but similar to all the others. The only drop with something different is the southernmost one.
The servant, on the other hand, went into the mist and disappeared without trace.
I told him to come back, he didn't come back? dangit!
