The 'night' wore on, everyone passing into slumber of varying degrees. The other prisoners content to rest like rocks, as this was the only relaxation they could have here in this dark, foreboding place. One getting up midway through the night to sue their chamber-pot, before passing out once more. It had been roughly six-hours before Crispy's screams would fill the vacuous chamber, allowing for a long enough rest.
Several soldiers heard the scream and would begin to charge over to investigate. As they approached, they would notice the two guards passed out on the ground, and crying out "What the hell?" (Investigation: 11)
The guards look around, seeing no one there, they kick the two drow soldiers lying on the ground, jolting them awake. The two that had fallen jumping up, weapons drawn, before a wave of confusion washes over their features. "One of the prisoners had.. he was right.." the two newer soldiers looked inside the cage, doing a quick headcount, and growling. "I see no one missing, and the gate is locked. You are a fool, and must have been drinking the Jannaba again last night, weren't you?" the other drows' eyes shot wide at the accusation "How dare you, I am not so weak as to need to drown myself in spirits as you are! There was a prisoner here, and now he is not. I don't recall what happened. But go get the captain then, and let him decide who is more deserving of punishment."
One of the soldiers runs off to get the captain.
The remaining three look into the cell.
The drow who had been silent within the cell until now, the same one who had moved to be alone when they had all first began to awaken, walked forward - as elves only need reverie, even the drow, he had been listening to everything they had said hours before. Seeing the group of newer prisoners huddled together in a conspiracy. The drows left eye twitched continually, like a tremoring tick. Alongside his left eye, branching out into tiny orange-yellow circular spore-like bumps, seeming to come out of his skin and ear. "Something is afoot with you surface dwellerssss" his head twitching as if in pain, causing him to breathe heavily but pressing on, "If you are seeking to escape and have a plan, I wish to be part of it. I-I-I augh.. I was put in here for a murder I did not commit, and I have no wishhhhh to die down here for a crime that never happppppened."
One of the two who had come in response to the scream hit the bars with his metal bracer, causing a cacaphony of metal-on metal noise, shrill and echoing harshly within the cell. Waking the rest of the prisoners.
"And what in the ninth hell is going on in there? Explain yourselves now or we will have a repeat of yesterday, I assure you!"
(All players are allowed to respond here however they wish. The drow inside the cell would deny any knowledge. the other prisoners would do similarly, though some would complain about having their sleep interrupted. after each player has said thier piece, the RP below here is the next step.)
The drow soldier would come running back, Jorlan in tow. Jorlan was wearing full armor this time, hiding most of his scars, though he heavily favored his right side, where the scars were. As Jorlan approached, he would dismiss the guards to the messhall, telling them 'he would handle it' and they saluted him before leaving, shouting ''Yes Master Jorlan!''
Jorlans armor was a cut above even the elite warriors. a giant-spider symbol carved into his breastplate, and a massive, two handed sword strapped to his back. He waited until the other soldiers had left earshot, before speaking. "It seems you lesser races just can't hold on until the time is ripe. However.. Lolth is chaos embodied, and perhaps this is her will. And, as they say.. the best laid plans lead to expected results... here." he would say, tossing a key through the bars, this one looking much different from the key they had taken to get Chubby inside the cell again. "That will unlock your bindings. Take your fates into your own hands. But know should you try to betray myself, or Asha, there will be consequences. Also, remember, this is the only help you will get from myself or Asha. Cause as much mayhem as you can wreak, if you do not, and I find you trapped here in the cells again, I'll kill you myself." (intimidation: 23)
With that, he would leave, heading back to his personal chambers.
To be specific, this is a 2-3 response post.
Meanign its in chunks.
Or rather... I want each of you to post in regards to everything up to where the drow soldier goes off to get the Captain.
THEN
Each of you, post in response to the solider asking you 'what is going on' and the prisoner drow wishing to join you.
and FINALLY respond to Jorlans words and exit.
This means you will all get to post ONE response, to THREE situations. I hope that I explained that clearly!
Crispy immediately slapped her hand on her mouth, closed her eyes, and cursed her father a thousand times for, once again, tormenting her from beyond while she slept. She was in such a feral terror when she snapped awake, it took her a moment to steady her breathing and to stop shivering, realizing she might have attracted the attention of the guards.
She did her best to try and fake she was asleep. Deception: 18
The screaming even cut though Chubby’s obnoxiously loud snoring, causing him to wake up with a startle. He quickly rushed over to console Crispy, singing a gentle dwarvish nursery rhyme quietly, hoping to get her back to sleep.
Whereas the scream fails to get more out of the goblin than half-murmured apologies in his sleep, bloodshot red eyes snap open at the following cacophony. A second later, he has rolled onto all fours, and is all gnashing teeth and feral, guttural growling. There is little sanity behind his expression. And even what's there is more 'inspired' to listen to instinct than give two figs about answering a question.
Intimidation: 17 (at the guard that originally woke everyone up).
If he isn't dragged out and beaten (or worse) for the response, Cade slowly but surely calm down and try to go back to sleep, blatantly ignoring the other drow in the cell (if he was included).
Insight: 21 (For resisting the intimidation.. so close!)
Awoken yet again, though SLIGHTLY more rested than before, Cade is considerably more calmer than last time. Because of that(perhaps), when the threat gets leveled at the group, the goblin can only grit his teeth and keep his head bowed until Jorlan left the area. "... Time's up... I guess." He says, breaking the silence if no one else so after the drow has taken off. Cade then looks to whoever has grabbed the key warily, but held his tongue. For now.
Evrik jolted awake, What the hell was that? he thought. He saw nothing unusual but certainly wanted no attention on himself nor the group around him so he laid back down quietly ignoring the situation. (Deception: 18)
He looks over at the Drow prisoner, "Everyone in here is innocent, why should we believe you?" (Insight: 19)
Evrik nods to the others and whispers, "I'm ready to get threes damn chains off! When are we going to do this thing?"
Crispy pretends to wake, listens to Jorlan, but says nothing. She sees the keyring clatter across the cage, and when Jorlan leaves, she sighs and says to anyone listening, "Sorry about that. That was close. Night terrors. I have them regularly." She gets up and grabs the keys, and starts uncuffing anyone who wants to be uncuffed.
Immotichey jerks awake at the sound of the scream, the frill running from the back of his head and down his neck is immediately unfurled. Breath quickened, he sits up and begins to scan the cell for the source. He notices the chubby dwarf making his way over to console the human and surmises a bad dream - very understandable given their situation. The lizardman relaxes and lies back down, attempting to return to his rest.
Unfortunately, that would not happen as Crispy's scream has brought the attention of additional guards. The lizardman stays lying on the floor when they approach, watching outside the cell through squinty eyes. He lets out a heavy sigh when the one goes to fetch the captain. He sighs and tries to ignore them as long as possible. As the one guard begins to band on the bars he pulls himself up to a seated position and leans against the wall. "Just a bad dream," he says with a gruff voice at the guard's question.
When the drow prisoner approaches the group, Immotichey listens to his story carefully. (Insight6) "What happened to you," he asks sniffing at the drow and pointing towards the bumps around his eyes. "Have you managed to find any sort of weapon?"
Immotichey sits quietly listening to Jorlan explain things. His eyes drop hoping to avoid the ire of the drow at the levelled threat (No way for me to beat that roll). He waits a few moments after Jorlan has exited the cell and looks back and forth between the key and the others. His tail begins to flit back and forth in excitement with the potential to gain their freedom. He gives nod to the other prisoners, "If nothing else, they would be a good distraction."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Action Point #1: Chubby, recognizing that he’s the source of the guards confusion, doesn’t say a word. He’s a dummy, that’s for sure. However, he’s tactically brilliant in combat, and knows that this situation is about to break into a heated action, and all he’s got is a puny knife. So, he’ll just shut his mouth and not say a word. He’ll make sure that Crispy is protected if the guards decide to come into the cell and knock around the prisoners, though.
Action Point #2: Hearing Jorlan’s comment about being an inferior race made Chubby’s dwarven blood boil. He was just about to spring to his feet and defend his racial honor when Crispy casually placed her arm in front of Chubby, stealthily blocking his way. Not now, Chubby. Not now. (Insight roll against intimidation: 21)
Action Point #3: Chubby grabs his chains (the ones that previously were used to lock him up, but he broke through) and without speaking a word, saunters over to Crispy, grabs her by the arm, says “Followme, luv” and leads her to the back of the cell where the tattle-tale mushroom sprouting head cheese Drow is cowering. Ripping a piece of his dirty underwear off, he stuffs it into the mouth of the Drow, then begins to wrap all the extra chain around the Drow, with Crispys help. “This one doesn’t deserve to escape. He’s gone wrong in the head.”
Gathering the rest of the escapees around in a circle, with his back to the Drow that he just tied up, he draws with his finger into the dust and dirt on the ground a map to the room where he found all the gear hidden. He then outlines where he saw the spider protecting the room, and draws lines from multiple directions leading into the room and all around it, directing each capable person in the group where to attack the spider from.
He then describes all the potential Drow guard spots he witnessed on his way to and from the cell, pointing out where they may find trouble along the way.
When every escapee is ready, he’ll lead the group out into the cavern...
‘Too late’, he thought as he saw the soldiers run towards the two unconscious guards. This most certainly spelled trouble for them and the drow inside the cell getting nosy would not help either. “I don’t see how that is any of your business, drow!”, he tried to stay as quiet as possible. It was only then that he noticed the strange lichen covering parts of the drow’s head. “What is going on with you. Speak! Or I’ll make sure that you stay right here in this cell.”Intimidation: 6“What about these strange sprouts on your face?”, Arthasis tried to think of any possible reasons for this kind of markings. Arcana: 21
As Jorlan finally came being called by the assembled guards he dismissed all of them and tossed the key to the prisoner’s chains into the cell. Now was the time, their one and only chance to get out of this place. The warlock listened to the dwarf remembering the room with the giant spider and the way to get there. “The dwarf is right. We need to get our gear if we want to stand a chance against the outpost.”
He then turned to Crispy, “We can’t wait any longer. Jorlan dismissed the guards here. I think now is our best chance!”
Apologies about the format of the post before. I was testing something, and it was a critical failure it seems. I will post in normal format from here on out.
In order to avoid rehashing it and causing more confusion, I will unfortunately have to ignore some of the posts, specifically questioning the drow cellmate, as Chubby has summarily restrained and gagged him.
Arthasis was unable to deduce any magical means or symbolism, which pointed to the markings being logically mundane in nature. The things looked like fungus, or spores, he would realize, festering inside the drows' skin. beyond that he could glean nothing.
Everyone was cowed into fear by Jorlans threat, except Chubby. Chubby still feeling a bit of wariness, something would tell chubby that despite Jorlans obvious physical issues, he is, or was, a great enough warrior in his own right to be cautious about, even if he were outnumbered.
Each of the prisoners, excluding the drow who was now tied up behind them would eagerly clamber up seeing their opportunity. Including the single Derro, who would say "By my will today we are free. I shall cut a bloody swath through these drow dredges for daring to impede my divine will" he spoke softly enough so as not to risk attracting more attention, as the Quaggoth pens were not far off, and he seemed sane enough not to draw their ire. "All of you shall be rewarded with paradise when we are free!"
the Derro's eyes darted about as if plans began formulating in his head, rubbing his tiny hands together in anticipation of something, with vigor, and eagerness.
Finally, at Arthasis words, and Chubby's obvious eagerness to be about their business, the prisoners were ready to leave.
Evrik would feel a sudden gravity in the back of his head. It did not effect him in any way outside of sensing it. Somewhere off in the distance, was a great cacaphonic buzzing sound, the same one as he had heard before, but much, much closer.
((Drow Prisoner Athletics check to break the bindings: 3))
Behind you, the restrained drow struggles in vain to escape his bindings. Screaming through the cloth, but barely managing a muffle.
There are a grand total of 16 prisoners, including yourselves.
You scavenged a total of 8 knives Chubby.
Cade has a daggerlike rock, and iron bar (club)
Crispy has a single crossbow bolt, coated with drow poison.
this means at-least 6 prisoners will have to go out unarmed. Please specify who gets what in your next posts.
The NPC's will tend to stay near the middle of the group, unless combat begins.
Please choose your positions in the marching order. (who is leading, who is behind, to the side, and which side, etc.)
“Don’t forget to move as quiet as possible, at least until we get our gear.”, he reminded everyone before to group moved out of the cell.
Since Arthasis could rely on his fiendish powers for self-defense, he would refrain from taking a dagger in favor of someone better equipped to use it. For the same reason he would try to stay in the middle of the pack leaving vanguard duty to somebody else.
“Wait a minute, trigger happy.“ Crispy whispered urgently. “What about all the other guards? We are a large group, you’re thinking no one’s gonna see a pack of prisoners just sneaking about?”
Crispy took a knife and with her crossbow bolt, had something in each hand. Maybe she was missing something, but this place was crawling with guards. Did Jorlan dismiss them ALL, she wondered..? While not one to sneak or run from a fight, she knew about odds and was not suicidal.
OOC: The players will discuss how to move forward here. As I said in the post above, discuss your Marching Order. The NPC's will follow, staying in the middle of the players unless combat starts.
Remember, you are on thin paths or bridges, limiting you all to single file when moving, for now.
Everyone roll for Stealth (Except Pocket) and Perception. These rolls will be applied once you enter #10.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As bothered (and even a little disgusted) as Cade looked watching the drow get dwarf-handled, the goblin wisely kept his mouth shut, but refrains from looking away. Once freed along with the others, Cade just cracks his neck, and just quietly takes up guard at the back of the pack.
Even if his specialty was the front, it never hurt to have at least one sturdy person in the back to ward off any surprise flanking. Before they move on, one last almost apologetic look is thrown back at the drow prisoner. Then, as one the last to leave he closes the gate (if noone beats him to it), and take his leave armed with club in one hand and stone dagger in the other.
Chubby explains everything he learned to his new friends.

While still a bit embarassed about her violent waking, after hearing Chubbys tactical plan, she smiles proudly.

Occassional Dungeon Master.
Our gear is in Room 6? If so, and the coast looks clear, then Arthasis has the right idea. Stealth to get our gear.
I will be behind Chubby. Him and I like to flank targets. Helps with my backstabbing.

Au yis.
Stealth: 5.

Chubby will take point, as he's starting to feel the battlemaster leadership welling inside himself, with pride.
Stealth: 4
Perception: 10
And surprisingly, he does an excellent job of stealthing his way in front of the group! Chubby está en llamas!
I'll say that the delta between 15 and 20 is some slight "evidence" of his epic burp still lingers along with his body odor.

Assume Chubby distributed the 8 knives as follows:
Arthasis = 0 (didn't want one)
Cade = 0 (will use his club)
Chubby = 1
Crispy = 1 (dual wielding with her pointy stick)
Evrik = 1
Immotcihey = 1
Prisoner 1 (the sleepy female dwarf) = 1
Prisoner 2 (the Quaggoth) = 1
Prisoner 3 (Jar Jar Binks, the deep gnome) = 1
Prisoner 4 (Foot stool) = 1 (if he has arms and can carry/use a dagger?)
Prisoner 5 (random prisoner) = 0
Prisoner 6 (random prisoner) = 0
Prisoner 7 (random prisoner) = 0
Prisoner 8 (random prisoner) = 0
Prisoner 9 (random prisoner) = 0
Prisoner 10 (wussy drow we left behind) = 0 (unless you consider the portion of Chubby's dirty underwear currently jammed in his mouth as a chemical weapon)
