Gaia's news didn't bring any good omens to the group. Pettilaen couldn't focus on two spells at once, and he needed the protection spell against the elemental when they came to blows. A silent image would just need to come from another member of the party. Out of options, he pulled out his hand crossbow and aimed near the epicenter of the vortex. Like one unit, Gaia flew down to provide Help, hoping the distraction would help him hit his target.
His crossbow bolt sunk into the water [11 to-hit]. He had no idea if he hit the thing, but the water didn't freak out.
Kanon grabs a hold of the rope in one hand and calls out to Mara, "Pull when I've got her!" He then dives under water. He's kicking and waving his arms trying to get closer to Portia, but the current is so strong and the water so thick that be barely moves at all. If anything, he feels like he's floating backwards. He rises to the surface and gasps for air. In desperation he begins his chant of healing once more, and with a quick lunge is able to graze Portia's body as it's whirling within the vortex. Hopefully it's enough to keep her going a little longer!
(Tries to get closer to Portia to grab her, Fails athletics check (7), Casts Cure Wounds for 14)
Mara continued to hold the rope, waiting to feel for a tug to let her know when to pull. Nothing happened. She was beginning to panic a little, at the thought of leading these people here, only to get them killed.
It was hard for Pettilaen to remain calm and focused with everything going on. Portia was getting crushed by an elemental that she just could not escape. Voices were coming from the north. He figured there was no way they couldn't hear everything that was going on, meaning an illusion at the moment would do little good. His crossbow seemed useless against the thing. All he could do was fight the elemental. Conjuring three bolts of arcane energy, he slammed them into the elemental, knowing they never missed when he declared a target. He sent Gaia to fly north to keep an eye over there and let him know what she sees.
Again Kanon attempts to swim into the vortex to retrieve Portia, and again he's nearly swept up by the current. As he emerges on the surface of the water he calls out in distress, "I can't do it! I can't reach her!!" In one final attempt at healing, he chants out a cadence that is supposed to restore vigor to those on the last leg of their life. He dives forward into the vortex and releases the spell upon Portia. They need to try something else. He can't do this alone!
Effectively immediately, due to unfortunate circumstances, Beregost Blues is no more. Thanks for playing and / or reading. It upsets me that I won't have a chance to reveal the amazing plans I had for this game, but, as the French say, "C'est la vie".

Zina shot a bolt of flame at the swirling mess of water, but to no avail. She narrowly missed Portia in the writhing waves.
