Although both turned towards the source, the ogre snorts loud enough to be heard up the hill. "Stupid wild dogs gonna wake'm up. Ruu-du! Get'em 'fore they notice!" The Ogress commands, and there's a mighty, bestial roar that accompanies the sound of stampeding feet closer to the party. "Stupid Ruu-duu! You wake them too!" The Ogress calls after the beast.
OoC: Let's say one of the fighters directs the others to group together behind them or else to scatter to avoid AoE, etc? Someone make the call? Beware the ledge!
Those towards the back of the hill crest cannot directly see the enemy, though have heard them readying to kick things off. Those with darkvision and at the front can just make out the pair about roughly 60ft away towards the base of the hill.
Anton cannot 'see' them yet, but will when they enter about 20ft range of the party in general, and subsequently into the dim light edge of the campfire.
Ordrin crouches to a knee, quietly muttering a plea to Moradin to aid him and his companions (Bless on Anton, Lokk, and himself). As he stands, he grips his hammer and shield and brings them both to his chest, the circle over the cross in front of him.
Hi all, I left this campaign a while ago but left char attached to give access to my purchased content. Is anyone using that content? I can leave it connected if you are, otherwise I’ll disconnect. Works either way for me
OoC: Hi Jynne! I'm not sure if anyone is depending on it. I think I'm fine, but others might be using it? Obviously if you need the sharing slot, though, you should go ahead!
Anton gestures for the others to get behind him and stands steady, ready to swing his sword at any hostile creature that comes in range.
Mixum sees that everyone is preparing for an assault. He quickly finds some cover nearby. He activates his crossbow arcane weapon and waits to see if they run away like Pip said they might. If they don't then when they reach a 30ft range he'll fire.
Odrin emboldens both himself and comrades with the might of the All-Father!
Anton prepares to meet any charge, holding the line against dwellers in the dark.
Through on the fly tinkering, Mixum activates the full power of his crossbow before leveling it to fire upon the first foe to reach the crest of the hill.
But now...
The heavy thuds of footfalls can be both felt and heard. A few seconds into what might've been a mighty charge up the hill, a great "Hurrk!", followed by the whoosh of something large and heavy sailing into the night proceeds a surprise for Anton in the form of a sapling of some kind shaped into a javelin! Whether it hits or not, the party can just make out labored breathing prior to her bellowing, "Stupid hill too steep! Take forever to get stuffs! Ruu-du! Quit bein' lazy 'nd get up there!"
Big Stick(Thrown): 14 Damage: 11.
She's attacking "unseen" for the purpose of Anton's limited vision range, canceling disadvantage on a long range throw, but Anton in turn is receiving a slight cover(+2) bonus because of the angle. For now.
Again, the Boar let's out a bestial bellow as it rushed on and up, shaking the earth more and more with every step. Until eventually a behemoth reaches the outer edges of the light, panting, and salivating like mad. Unfortunately, it too comes up short of reaching anyone, and receives a bolt to the head for its troubles, courtesy's of Mixum's. Rather than stun or frighten the beast however, it lets out a grass rustling snort as hungry red-eyes focus in on the gnome.
Even dashing, the boar is just in the light, but 10ft short of Anton.
As it focuses on Mixum, a half-Orc takes advantage of the distraction to fire off his own shot at the boar before ducking back into hiding behind the lone hill tree. Unfortunately, even with the blessing on his side, the arrow bounces off the thick hide of the boar.
Shortbow Attack: 9 Damage: 7.
Bonus Action: Cunning Action Hide: 26.
Meanwhile, both horses and ponies, whom were already agitated by the sounds, start to grow increasingly more panicked seeing the Dire Boar now in its full glory. Fortunately, they are bound to the tree, but there was no telling how long that boon might last...
OoC: Pip was going to cast suggestion, if in range. What is the terrain between Anton and the boar? He wouldn't have planted on a slope, but if flat he would have stepped forward a bit on his turn, possibly putting him in range now?
The spell has to be on creature that can understand the caster. While it /is/ possible the Boar might know one given all the weirdness learned up to now about the area, I wasn't sure if wished to risk it or decide on a different move.
The terrain between is still slopped between the two. Only reason it didn't get any "cover" bonus from shots because it is just that tall.

OoC: Pip is targeting the ogre woman with Suggestion.
I know he wishes to. But she is not within 30ft by the end of her turn is what I was getting at. And to save this one time on a misplay, neither can move up close enough to do so without dash just to get within range for next turn. He can get up to where slope meets crest and ready the spell, but may be in danger of the Boar turning on him next turn.

When the magic orb slams into the boar's side, Ruu-du lets out a pained bellow as electricity lefts its already bristly fur stand on end. And yet despite being scorched and bloody, he slams a hoof down in as much as defiance as it was to keep from sliding back down the hill. "Ruu-du! You okay!" You all hear from the "Ogress" below. To which, Ruu-du just lets out another below, and starts digging a forehoof in the ground as if readying to charge.
The ball bearing goes fling and....
