You sit together at The Faded Maple Tavern in Southhaven. The Maple, as the locals call it, is lean on patrons this evening. The room is a mixture of old wood and plaster. Simple benches and tables lined in rows form isles for the serving maid. The far corner has a hearth with a healthy fire burning. The bar itself stretches the length of the opposite wall.
It's been awhile since you've been together here. Even now you can pick out the farmers who live near town and the travelers passing through. Southhaven's population is majority human. Desptie this, crazy Vulmar, an alchemist who, being an elf, has spent many generations here. Gilfas, an old dwarf, and his sons run the mining operation near town, as well.
But here tonight, a wind-burnt dwarf enjoys mead and conversation with his half-elf companion. Four halflings share a loaf of sweetbread and a flagon of beer. A woman in leather armor sips a cup of spiced wine and stares into the hearth's flames.
And, of course, there's you.
Dala, the barmaid stops at the table. “What can I get for all of you?” she asks.
Take this opportunity to describe yourself and your outlook.
Lazarus: hello, my name is lazarus, former merchant, current adventurer. I'm up for most jobs or quests as long as the pay is good and its not illegal. what drink would you recommend?
Lazarus is a tall lanky Viashino, red eyes. wearing simple clothes, and chain-mail on top of the clothes. has a great sword strapped to his back, a rapier and two hand axes attached to his belt. a backpack on his back and a holy amulet Waukeen around his neck.
Looks around at his companions. "It's been a long time, too long." Tristan is a slender half elf with long blond hair and striking blue eyes. He rather good looking and has an easy smile. His eyes do dart to the door every time someone walks in, but it seems like it's more habit than him looking for anyone. The instrument case he carries shows his profession to anyone that looks closely. "I'll take a dwarven ale" he orders.
A burly female Goliath with ashen grey skin, pale blue eyes, and a long white braided ponytail that goes to her waist. She has simple blue line tattoos on her face that start at the edge of her eyes and go straight down and wrap back against her chinline to her ears. The shield strapped to her back has 3 white lightning bolts striking a blue gem in the middle.
Claps Tristan on the shoulder, "Aye, been a long time. But now we're here!"Looks back to the barmaid "I'll have a stout that's on tap and bread pudding, with a lot of extra sauce."
A slight halfling woman with olive skin and messy brown hair pulls herself up onto a chair. She is almost--ALMOST--able to get to eye level with everybody else by propping herself up on an overstuffed backpack that contains every material possession she owns. "Get me a glass of your finest honeywine. The good stuff, from the south. If you still have it."
Her drink ordered, Roz starts to take a peek around the tavern, trying to find someone with pockets deep enough to pay for her drink...
Myra Stormsong is human, with tanned skin, dark hair and eyes as blue as the sea. She wears a faded red bandana, and has more than a few rings on her fingers. She kicks her feet up onto the table fiddling with the bandages that seem to always be wrapped around her right hand, whether she’s injured or not. Black nautical tattoos of storms and sea beasts cover her left arm. A few more of the tattoos can be seen on her right arm as well. “A nice red wine would be perfect, love. Elven if you’ve got it.” After ordering her drink she looks over to her friends. “It really has been far too long.”
"Ale, please if you have it"Rill Co'bal is a large Dragonborn, with a coat of thick deep blue scales and sharp golden eyes, his chain mail is covered mostly by a tabard of deep black although frayed and faded in places you can still make out its trimming of rich gold. Setting the heavy warhammer down from his back with a thud he takes a seat next to Myra.
"Brothers and sisters it is good to see you all again" He announces with a deep growl, rows of razor sharp teeth glinting in the light "I have longed for the moment our group is reunited"
"Ale for me as well," Thadrith says, leaning on her elbow. Her brown eyes dart to each of her companions, including the other halfling that looked almost exactly like her. Thadrith's skin is ever-so-slightly darker, her height ever-so-slightly taller, and there are some other small differences, but not enough for anyone to notice without careful looking.
"It has really been a long time,"Thadrith says to the group. "Tell me, what has everyone been doing since we were last together?"
"Oh I've been here and there," Myra says, drumming her fingers on the table."Checked out a few rumors down south about the Silverwind. None panned out." Myra looks away from the group and looks over the patrons of the Faded Maple, trying to determine if she should be expecting trouble tonight. She always was expecting trouble, ten years on a pirate ship has taught her that, but she would really prefer a calm relaxing night with her friends tonight.
"I'm here too, and I'm also glad to find you all again..." Elery steps forward, trying to get in, before any conversation actually starts. She pulls her brown hair back behind her ear, and lets her blue coat drop behind her neck, she had brown hair, amber eyes, and her outfit seems to match her coat, all in a deep blue color. She looks at the barmaid who was receiving their orders. "Oh, thank you, but I think I won't have anything this time around."
The barmaid nods. "Surely," she says. “I’ll be back.” She hurries off to prepare your drinks.
Roz, the well-traveled dwarf and his half-elf friend both look as though they have coin to spare. Both have full packs and their clothing isn’t threadbare. The woman in leather armor wears an ornate longsword. He pack leans against the table near her feet. She looks like she can hold her own, though, if she were to catch you.
Myra, the evening is calm and the patrons inside the Maple appear to be following suit. But, as everyone well knows, it’s the little things. And your keen is eye picks each detail out with expert ease. No one thing points to trouble, but it’s when they’re taken together they tell their own stories of danger. The four halflings appear to be sharing their supper together without saying too much. But, you look closer and see their hushed whispers and nervous eyes darting around the room. Each time their eyes sweep the room they end on the door to the outside.
The dwarf and his half-elf friend seem happy enough in their cups, until you notice the half-elf’s left hand opening and closing. It’s like he’s all nerves. You give him a second look and notice his right hand griping the hilt of his dagger under the table. It’s his side furthest from your table that his body obstructs, so it’s easy to miss.
The woman sipping her wine seems innocent enough. You can tell she and her gear have seen battle. But, you see the bloodied bandages on her left leg. And every so often, her eyes dart to your group.
Everyone, after a few minutes, the barmaid returns with drinks. She passes them out and hurries off to the bar.
"I spent my time in the north, but research into my birth clan led me to many dead ends and closed doors. The clans still living up there were less than hospitable" The last word he hisses in resentment before downing half his ale in one go. As his head tilts back you notice the beginning of a large scar starting on his neck and disappearing underneath the top of his armor.
(To Lazarus)"I have not checked for work yet brother but news on the road is not good, hard times ahead i believe"
As the party chats, Roz joins in with vague responses. Her real conversation, however, is with Thadrith. She says, using hand gestures (Thieves' Cant):
"What do you think of the dwarf and half-elf? Perhaps they sponsor our drinking for the evening?"
OOC The half-elf and the dwarf are not sitting with us are they? I'm picturing us all at one big table and them at a different one.
IC:
Tristan smiles "I've been staying one step ahead of the family, two on good days, keeps me quick though. I'm not sure why we've waited so long to get back together, but I know it will be good, it always is."
As Thadrith nods along to the rest of the group, she notices Roz's hands and glances at the dwarf and half-elf. Her eyes glaze over them, looking for any specific weak points.
"It isn't hard to tell, but something did happen to me... I've grown, and I'm independent now, so no more of that hiding from my parents stuff."She smiles saying that, being with this group was fun, and the annoyance of having a time limit to talk with them is finally gone. "The terms in which I left them were kinda strange, but if it hadn't happened I wouldn't be here, so I'm not actually resentful for that."
(To Rill) "You've also heard about them? I saw some of the news on the road, and I'm a bit worried too..."
The same questions as Rashek, I'd also like to know what my character knows about the outside world, maybe some of her noble privilege can let her in on things most people would be ignorant about.
Myra takes a sip of her wine and continues to watch the other patrons. “It seems those hard times have arrived. Everyone here seems nervous. The Halflings keep looking at the door, probably for an escape route, or their waiting for someone. And the woman in armor keeps looking over at us. We should be careful tonight.” Sparks unconsciously danced between her fingertips. Myra clenched her right hand into a fist, willing them to stop. She took another sip of wine to calm her nerves.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.

OOC. I would like to see if i notice Thadrith casing the dwarf, if i do Rill will say...
"I think we should try stay out of trouble for at least one night, would you not agree Thadrith?"He looks over to the Halfling with a knowing smile.
"Agreed" Rill raises his drink in salute to Lazarus "I dont want to spill blood tonight, especially not here, tonight is about the drink and the company"Downing the rest of his ale"Another round for this table, on me"he calls to the bar in a deep growling voice.
To Elery"Bad news travels faster than good i'm afraid, i've heard many a woeful tale on my journey here, will you join us in a drink?" Rill gestures towards the bar "my round" Trying to smile Rill widens his mouth in to a portal of razor sharp dragons teeth.
To Myra. Rill lowers his tone to a whisper, the ends of some words now producing a small hiss, a racial trait his tongue can never conceal."Well spotted sister i have one eye on the road outside something is off here, but exactly what it is i cannot tell"
