"Oh, I've tried drinking once, and I discovered I'm a bit of a lightweight, that's why I'm still a bit hesitant to drink anything again... But, thanks still." Elery answers Rill and looks around the table once again, before adressing Myra's coment, which made her look around the bar too.
"Yeah, you're right, the bar is not in the best mood tonight... It's a bit unfortunate, because we're having quite the opposite of that here on our table." She says looking back to the party. As she thinks back to what more she could talk with the group about.
"Oh, also, with age, I have learned new things in the magic department, like..."She grabs one of the daggers she held for protection just in case magic wasn't enough, and casts Light on it, before showing it to the party.
Thene leans towards Elery"Little Elery I like that spell, but I have always been a fan of the dramatic."Thene castsThaumaturgy, the windows in the tavern loudly whip open. Thene bursts into a fit of thunderous laughter.
She smiles, and laughs shortly at Thene's perfomance. "Wow, that's pretty good, I think I have more things in store, I just wanted to show what would be more useful, without using a lot of energy..." She answers and then adds. "There's a lot of people here in the group, including you and me, who can't see in the dark, so free light forever is just really good to have."
(On that matter, DM. Can I remove the torches in my inventory that I took from the starting equipment, and take the money back from it? Since Elery can't see any real reason to keep them. I know there might be some, but if she doesn't know it, then I think it's reasonable to say she wouldn't have spent money on torches.)
Rill, Elery, and everyone, for the wider world, no check is needed. These are dark days indeed. Outside of The Anvil and to the north, not much has been heard from the Hundred Tribes or the few villages in the tundra.
The Spire fell almost a fortnight ago. It was the high seat of the Council of Mages. Rumors of what happened have been flying since. Some say it was attacked and destroyed. Others think some research project went awry, taking The Spire with it. Still others talk of demonic rituals and soul-pacts for power.
Regardless, The Spire has been changed forever in some way.
Locally, there is talk of murders and disappearances in The Anvil. Travelers are being attacked more frequently and even the safe roads have become perilous. The cause, as far as any of you can tell, is some combination of disturbed creatures, raiding parties, and bandits.
Tristan, no. The dwarf and half-elf are sitting at a table across the room from you. And your tune is well-played and seems well received by the rest in the tavern.
Thadrith, you’re not seeing any obvious openings. In fact, to you, they look like they’re very experienced travelers who would see through most ways of being taken advantage of.
Rill, you notice Thadrith eyeing the dwarf and half-elf companions for sure. Also, the barmaid takes note of your call for the next round and begins preparing drinks for the table. And yes, it’s evening.
Having been watching you with glances and stolen looks and seeing your spells, the woman in leather armor stands, collects her pack and drink, and limps to your table. You all can see her left thigh is injured and still wrapped in bloody bandages.
She pulls her hood back and her golden curls spill over her chest and back. Her face is in plain view now. Once, she might have been considered beautiful, but the deep scar that has disfigured her right cheek and upper lip have changed that.
“Well met, travelers,” she says. “My name is Seva. I don’t mean to interrupt, but might you have news from outside Southhaven?”
(Elery, you absolutely can cross off the torches and take the money back.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Thene casts a weary glance at Seva."No good news, if that is what you are wondering.....seems like your leg has seen better days." Thene stands up ,towering over this woman, smiles and kneels down, inspecting the thigh "I can help with that." Thene casts cure wounds: 4then stands back up and sits down. "I go by Thene. Is there something bothering you? Perhaps whatever gave you that horrid looking injury."
Thadrith turns to Rill when he speaks to her. "Oh, I wholeheartedly agree!" she tells him, mirroring his smile.
And the best way to avoid trouble is to simply not get caught. The problem is, Thadrith isn't sure if they can avoid being caught by the dwarf and half-elf. She isn't seeing any obvious weak points, but if they're careful, they might be able to get a few coins.
In Thieves' Cant, she tells Roz:
"We can try, but we'd have to be careful. They look like they'd know when something is up."
Thene, you aren't sure why, but she seems on edge. Just putting together her eye movements and small facial muscle cues. And there's a hint of desperation in her voice. She seems like she's in bad spot and trying to get out.
An instinctive low growl builds in the back of the dragonborns throat as Seva approached the table, someone approaching his pack his newly reformed clan uninvited made him slightly wary. These are my people the growl said, he was very protective of his own.
Checking himself, Rill takes an empty cup and castsCreate or destroy water filling it to the top and offering it to Seva in recompense.
"Please take a seat, maybe we can share information"
Rill, the dwarf and half-elf seem to take notice of the Seva approaching your group, but don’t pay it any attention and continue their own conversation.
Seva sits and puts her spiced wine on the table. She takes the cup of water and places that in front of her, as well. “Thank you,” she says. “Where are you all from?” she asks.
Lazarus: (to Seva) "Hello, I'm Lazarus, former merchant, current adventurer. I grew up in a city north east of here, called Treford. I'm originally from a forest east of that city." Lazarus holds out his hand to give Seva a hand shake.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The active Elery seems to close a bit with the new approach to the table. "Oh, I was born and grew up in the same city as Lazarus... I'm Elery, glad to meet you."She looks at the lady once more, before asking. "Uhm, Thene asked if there's something bothering you, would you mind answering that question?"
Persuasion11 (In case she's trying to hide something (the thing that's bothering her), Elery will try to persuade her in opening up.)
Tristan stops playing to rejoin the group in conversation, he mindlessly plucks a note here and there "You'll find we're from here and there my good woman, we've not seen each other in some time and even in a world of sadness, we must find what joy we can. Especially in a world such as ours. What of you? are you from here?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Myra
Myra looks up at the newcomer to their table and finishes of the rest of her wine. "Aye, we're from here and there." Seva seemed like she could take care of herself but seemed worried about something.
(Does Myra get the feeling that she's worried about the group or something else?) Insight:18
Seva shakes your hand, Lazarus. She greets each of you in turn.
“Thank you for the hospitality,” she says. “I was not expecting… Such a warm welcome. Forgive me.” She smooths her hair and takes another sip of her wine. “I’m…uh…I’m from down South. East of the Fens.”
Myra, you study Seva as she’s speaking more. You can tell she’s worried about something outside your party for sure. Something close to her personally. Something that weighs on her.
Seva takes the next few minutes to explain that she was born in a small town called Sewold and that she’s hasn’t seen much of the world. She seems guarded at first, but then, with Elery’s encouragement, she opens up.
“Years ago,” she says, “I’m not sure if you’ve ever heard of him—but, Lord Autar Blackwood was expanding his territory. Our small town fell into those territories and soon we were under his heel. After a time, we found a kind of peace—or more of a balance—but when my brother stumbled on an ancient mine in town a few months back, all that changed. Word got out and Lord Blackwood placed a garrison in the village. Soon after, the Lord himself moved into town.
“The mine was investigated and It turned out to be an ancient vault. Immediately, Lord Blackwood started using the my people as forced labor. Both as bait for the horrors and taps in the mine, but also to haul out rubble and artifacts. Then...” She swirls the wine in her drink for a moment, summoning her resolve. “It got worse. Something was found deeper in the mine. Something horrible. My husband...” she bites her lip and blinks back the tears. “He went down one day and didn’t come back. The rumors started: monsters, demons, and worse. People stopped showing up for their shifts in the mines. Lord Blackwood wouldn’t have it. He started out with lashings. Then came the hangings. And then he started burning people at the stake so everyone could see their agony and pain. When I left, he had drawn and quartered a man who collapsed without water.
“A decision was made to send for help. Four people, including myself, were selected and sent in different directions. We’re hoping to find anyone we can pay to stand against Lord Blackwood. Something has to be done or there won’t be anyone left.” When she finished, she lets out a deep sigh. Then she downs the rest of her wine.

"If only i could breath fire ey?"
Rill laughs Gesturing towards the instrument case at Tristans side.
"Please tell me you still play, how about a tune for the folks here this evening"
(it is evening here right ?)
Tristan
Tristan never needing an excuse to start playing pulls out his Dulcimer and begins to play a jaunty tune.
