"No, the help is appreciated," she says catching her breath. "They would have sold me back to Blackwood. Or worse. I shouldn't have even come here."
The militia look at Lazarus, unable to answer. Or too angry. The each unsheathe their weapons and place them on the cavern ground.
One of the militia steps forward. He's missing teeth and has a crooked nose. But, he looks like he's seen his share of battle.
"I'm in charge now, it seems," he says. "Name's Gervis."
Deborah, with your roll, you're able to recognize the drow has a severe head injury. You're unable to stabilize her. But, One, your spell can do what normal means cannot. She stabilizes. The bleed stops. She's unconscious, but alive.
Cassia looks relatively unharmed. She waves off your oil, One.
The dwarf steps through the militia and hands the golden ornate sword, still sheathed, to Elery.
"Listen, I don't know who you are," Cassia says with fear in her voice. "You don't know what that is. Give it to me. I have to make sure Lord Blackwood can't get his hands on it. Please. The fate of this town, and potentially more, is at stake."
Emrys looks at the veteran, "Good. Your be responsible for their behavior. They don't follow orders, I take it out'o your hide. See to their wounds and wait over there," indicating a point well away from their weapons. When they move off, Emrys sheaths his sword and waits.
The Tabaxi motions his head to indicate Cassia and Elery to take a few steps far from the militia so they cannot hear what they are talking.
"We've been herre in the town forr a time now. We arre committed to stop him.We came herre to disrrupt this operration so he cannot longerr pay his mercenarries. If this weapon can help us it is safe in ourr hands. You sent us a note but we werren't able to talk back to you. " he says to Cassia. Even as he is talking it seems that there is something in his mind. " Excuse me.. you just said "sold back?"
Elery takes the sword uncomfortably. She never used one of those, and she knew that carrying that sword was a great responsibility. As she hears Cassia, Elery is determined to carefully examine what she says in order to discern whether the woman was being sincere or not.
Seeing that, thanks to One, the drow is out of danger Deborah disarms her searching her unconcious body for hidden weapons and anything else interesting and placing the lot at Emrys feet.
She turned to One, " Should we bind her? I've not taken prisoners before. The dead don't really make good captives..."
Lazarus: (to the party) "Was our goal to take prisoners? i thought we were here to disrupt the mining operation and make things difficult for blackwood. Maybe we should just let her go, she knows she can't beat us, her reporting her failure could damage enemy morale."

Lazarus: (to the party) "Was our goal to take prisoners? i thought we were here to disrupt the mining operation and make things difficult for blackwood. Maybe we should just let her go, she knows she can't beat us, her reporting her failure could damage enemy morale."
OCC: Emrys will be out of pocket from tomorrow till Sunday for the 4th Holiday.
Emrys, seeing the militia complying motions Gervis over, "You be a veteran I see, a professional, what be bringing you here? And what do you be knowing about all this?" Emrys will try and be professional about things, but if he doesn't get answers, he will use intimidation. 20
Emrys, Gervis nods to your orders. He passes a cautionary look between the rest of the militia. None seem to make any sudden moves.
His answer to your question is simple. “Money,” he says. “And life. My men and I weren’t given much of a choice. We get paid a measly bit, but were conscripted of sorts.” He shrugs. “Made sense at the time. This was us trying to get out. Blackwood doesn’t know we’re here. This was our desertion plan.” He eyes the unconscious drow. “She was our desertion plan. Guess not anymore. You guys looking for paid help?”
Lazarus, you’re having a hard time reading Cassia. You’re not sure she can be trusted. And you’re not sure she’s telling the truth.
Cassia turns to you, Khinsrra, and sighs. “Sold. Yes. I was bought and paid for by Blackwood as a slave. I’m sure they would have ransomed me after they had the sword.” She glares at Gervis and his men.
“I get you’re not with Blackwood, but I don’t know who you all really are,” Cassia continues. “I can’t trust you’ll do the right thing. Give the sword to me, please.”
Elery, you can tell she’s not telling the whole truth. Destroying the sword is not her aim. She’s got nothing to lose and you can see she cares little for this town. She’s against Blackwood for sure, but after that, you’re unsure what her aim truly is.
Emrys to Gervis, "Well, I be a bit late to this party, so I'm not being involved with how much money our benefactor be throwing around, but as we be here to throw a dead rat in o'Blackwood's soup, there may be something we can do." Emrys chuckles a bit, "Even getting you and the boys outa here helps that, so we may be able to let you leave. But be telling me about the Drow. 'ever did I hear of one being helpful. Usually kill'm on site before they cause problems."
"You arre frree now to leave. " he says to Cassia " We keep the sworrd seems that we can use it against Blackwood, rright frriends?" he ask to the others
He then turns to the milita
"You have to go without hostages orr trreasurres. You want to leave, leave. If we see you again in town you will die. Take the drrow with you..."
Lazarus: (to the party) "By the sound of things Blackwood's hold over the town isn't as strong as we were led to believe. If this group was already deserting, its very likely more will too. We might want to consider trying to convince the towns folk to rise up against him."

Gervis instructs his men to collect the drow woman and they leave the mine.
“Worse,” says Cassia turning to you all. “This isn’t about the town or land or titles anymore. Blackwood is possessed. Or something. I haven’t been able to figure it out yet. Point is, he’s being controlled by something. Something from there!” She turns and points to the Vault archway. “That’s some kind of gateway elsewhere. Best I can tell, it’s The Abyss. Hell.”
One has been sitting quietly half listening to what’s going on. “I think I’d like to speak for everyone when I say, what’s going on here? Are we needing to go down that dark tunnel and squash some baddies or not?”

Deborah yawned, " Bye!"
She waited until the militia left, then turned to the others.
" So...we got the truncated version. Exactly what is the deal here?"
Lazarus: (to the party) "By the sound of things Blackwood's hold over the town isn't as strong as we were led to believe. If this group was already deserting, its very likely more will too. We might want to consider trying to convince the towns folk to rise up against him."

" I like it simple. People are too complicated, Fiends and Undead though. Easy, Kill them all."
" Or close the gate and just kill Blackwood....I'm fine either way."
Insight on Cassias last statement: 21
Edit: Yeah....no clue.
"Then we should frre him of that influence... " says Khinsra looking to his friends.
