Kenku don't smile as a rule (what with the beaks). Kinnik makes a valiant effort all the same, even if a trifle embarrassed by nearly cracking his head. All energy for conversation spent, he turns toward the kitchens in search of a heel of bread and a half finished bottle of fruit wine.
Vasha made her way to the bar with the others once the tables were cleared. Her hands and clothes always seemed to bear some sign of superficial injury: a new rip here, a scratch there, a burned knuckle or singed sleeve. As she sat down, she drew a stack of coins and her copper keepsake. One by one, they bounce off the countertop into a mug. She seems entirely bored by the little game, "So, any word on what exactly we're doing?"

"Ah, none yet. My bet is on a mission. Maybe as grandiose as Cap's imagination, hopefully something with lots of cool treasure. Fancy armor, magical artifacts..." he trails off dreamily. "Anyway... if everyone's here, should we go see if Boss is ready? I'm getting antsy." As if to demonstrate this, Copper stands up and downs the rest of his wine.
Kinnik walks back into the bar from the kitchen, arms laden with scraps of bread and fruit. Around a mouth full of walnuts he says in Cap's voice,"Sure, let's go."
As time passes, you each feel an itch of anxiety. Boss hasn't been in the building all day. They went out on an errand in the morning leaving you only with the promise of work in the evening. Each customer that appears through the door, as few as they are, is scrutinized by you all. Surely any of them being entertained by Nav at the bar or losing crowns to Dice at the tables could be Boss.
At the appointed hour, the lights flicker once. Whatever you all were doing is halted as you look to the lanterns for a sign. The Gilded Lotus is lit by everbright lanterns. The Boss some years ago had spurlged to purchase the finest lighting available despite the joint being Downstairs. The elegance of the Gilded Lotus promised an air of high class despite the outside reality. The lights flicker again a few moments later.
The time has come to meet with the boss of the Gilded Lotus.
You each march upstairs excited, nervous, or a mixture of the two. Boss usually left you all to your own devices as long as you turned a profit, but Boss' jobs were always lucrative. You could already imagine your cut of the job as the changeling always seemed to share generous amounts of galifars with you. It wasn't their fault you typically blew those galifars on your side gigs, hobbies, or entertainment upstairs.
Through the door to Boss' office, you see their chair turned to face away from you all. In that office are only 3 chairs, and the rest of you will have to stand.
"Evenin' gents," a masculine voice calls from the chair. You can see Boss gesture with a pale hand for you to sit or make yourselves comfortable. "And of course, lady."Boss seems to wear a smile on their lips as they address Vasha.
The chair spins around and reveals Boss in their 'outted' persona. A changeling man of moderate build with a puff of white hair and black alien eyes. In one of those eyes, you see a white skull form. Boss' telltale sign to you that it is indeed them. They seem to hold this persona for a moment as they take you all in with their friendly eyes. "Anything fun happen while I was gone, loves?"
(I want you to imagine that Boss is basically a changeling version of David Bowie right now.)

Copper's eyes bounce between his friends and the limited chairs before he approaches the one on the right, sitting in it with legs crossed. "Looking good as always, Boss. Been a slow day, bit of a scrap earlier between a couple brutes, lover's quarrel I think. Convinced 'em to split a bottle of wine and talk it out." he says proudly. "Mostly I just been itchin to hear whatcha got for us to do."
Olen walks through to the far wall and leans against it.
"Not much in the way of tips today, everyone is pulling their drawstrings tight. Not much better buzzing their pockets either."
Olen transforms one of his own eye's, with the symbol of infinity, to confirm his own identity back to Boss, having learned this invaluable trick from Boss years ago.
"Tight and empty purses..."Boss muses aloud. As they speak, the changelings in the room notice Boss' shape change ever so slightly. First, the jawline becomes soft and the eyes begin to open a bit more. The skin slowly turns from pale white to a peach color. By this point, you all notice Boss shifting into a more feminine appearance as their hair grows both red and in length. Soft curls rest on Boss' shrinking shoulders. The outfit, a simple white shirt and suspenders, don't appear to shift at all. Boss' voice changes from a tenor to a soprano. "Don't worry your pretty little heads over it, my pets, as promised I have a job for you. If things go smoothly, we'll soon be drinking champaign from our crystal glasses."
Boss leans back in their chair and shows an open palm. Within it, you all see a disk floating over it. The disk is about 8 inches in diameter and is in a uniformly gray metallic color. Intricate designs zigzag from one quadrant to the next and there seem to be oddly shaped holes scattered around haphazardly on its surface.
"Now tell me, do any of you know what this is?" A small smirk plays over Boss' lips as they seem to look at Cap specifically with this question.
(Roll me Arcana checks. Everyone has disadvantage except for Cap, who has advantage.)
