Adrom was about to jump and follow Karl's lead, but refrains waiting for the response of the others members of the group.
"You should leave the dead alone " he mutters not droping his combat position. The red hot of its hammer giving a faint glow to the right side of his face.
Vondal eyes narrows, and for a moment it looked as if an arrow might be notched. He resists the urge, but remembering the zombies, he steps up to the thirty foot mark from the tower and its occupants, bow still in hand, and the occasional furtive glance thrown the red robed one's way. Morbid curiosity drove him to try and get a look at the zombies again, determining if not how 'recent' their death is, than at least who the bodies belonged to.
(@DDP: Just how illegal is Necromancy in Faerun? I know there's things like rez spells, and a few cantrips/blasty spells under the school. But not entirely sure on the undead control/raising variety.)

Nif reloads his crossbow but follows the lead of the others and refrains from firing, for the moment. He calls out, "Uncle, hold on. Lets hear what he has to say."
"Why are you here? What do you want with this place?"
Karl rests his somewhat gory warhammer on the ground "How 'bout I ask you the same question?" Karl says as he nudges a dead zombie with his boot and with his rage still obviously simmering.
Necromancy spells manipulate the energies of life and death. Such spells can grant an extra reserve of life force, drain the life energy from another creature, create the undead, or even bring the dead back to life. Creating the undead through the use of necromancy spells such as animate dead is not a good act, and only evil casters use such spells frequently.
OOC: Let's say you've had no experience with necromancy, but from everything you've read, it's not done by upstanding, law-abiding people. This fellow doesn't seem outright vicious, though; he did call of the zombies when you first arrived. And the zombies are all between four feet and six and a half feet tall. It's hard to tell, but they're probably humans or elves or half-elves or a combination of two or all three.
The red-robed figure squints minutely at Karl. "I have my reasons," he responds vaguely. "None of which are your concern. If you're passing through, do it quickly. Though, I warn you, there are orcs about," he spits, looking over his shoulder toward Wyvern Tor, which is almost indistinguishable from the sky in the dying light.
"I have my reasons," he responds vaguely. "None of which are your concern.
Karl lets his rage die down to a low ember as he looks the necromancer squarely in the eye "and exactly what they might be? As to your pets, Adrom up there is the expert on this sort of stuff but I reckon the dead should be left in peace!" He looks back over his shoulder at the party - all the time keeping an eye on the necromancer and the zombies "so what ya reckon mates do we leave this bloke and his pets alone?"

"On that we can all agree, Uncle." Vondal says after stepping within twenty-five feet of the tower. Though he grins, there was no denying the just held in checked anger at the moment. "It just so happens we have an interest in the Orcs. You gestured before in hint, but we would have more exacting information... if you have it. We would... /I/ would also know how you came across these bodies."

The red-robed figure's eyes narrow further at Karl, but as the others speak, he appears to be too distracted for his anger to continue to rise. He shakes his head dismissively at Vondal. "These were a gift. A colleague lent them to me for my expedition in exchange for information." He turns to watch the few creatures still shambling away from Adrom. "Come back!" he hollers. "What interest do you have in the orcs?" he asks with a sigh. "Those wretched creatures scouted out my camp last night. I'm afraid they may be inclined to cause trouble. Would you, by chance, be adventurers hunting them?"
Adrom:
Forgot to mention, but as soon as Karl hit the first zombie, the three semi-transparent beings reappeared and surrounded the creature. They look the same as before, though easier to see, as if stronger ... or maybe you're stronger. As Karl's rage subsided while talking to the red-robed man, they faded away.
Vondal expression darkens for a moment at the mention of 'gift', but he holds his tongue. "That is task, yes. Not protecting you, or delivering more to-..." He throws out an offhanded gesture. "-whatever this is, in case your next line would be that. Provide us with information on them, if you would be so kind." He said evenly. And as the man pontificated, he give Adrom a questioning look and make some slight gesture at the bow still in hand.

"Information on them?" the figure scoffs. "You think I know their names and favorite colors? They're orcs! I spotted them lingering on the outskirts of the well," he says, gesturing to the south. "I told my zombies to congregate in that direction and make sure they were seen. It must have been enough to scare the beasts off, because they left shortly after."

"Hmmph" Karl says with a disdainful look at the Zombies "if this moth-eaten lot scared off the orcs they must already been sick or dying or had something better to do, like!"

Karl pokes out his tongue and screws up his face trying to look at it and fails spectacularly "sorry can't do it" he responds. Vondal grip tightens on the bow. In the end, taking Adrom's hesitance to speak and Karl's goading (incidental or not) as the excuse, the ex-noble slides just far enough out of immediate sight as the necromancer's attention narrows on the older dwarf. In between words or even a sly gesture, Vondal has notched and loosed a shot, aiming to kill. Even if he fails, or the necromancer notices the movement, the dwarf still carries out the attempt with a face full of grim determination.
