Mayor Wilfred Higgins has called for a special announcement today at noon in front of the old "Lead Belly's Beer and Beds inn". The inn has been empty for the past 7 years since Morgan Leadbelly left on personal business and never returned. Rumor has it that the mayor is going to announce a new plan for dealing with the Blood Scales gang, and Lead Belly's is going to play an important role in attracting new heroes and mercenaries willing to help with this increasing threat. The towns people are busy going about their work, but eager to hear what new ideas the mayor has to help deal with the Blood Scales. It is an hour before the announcement is supposed to take place, but there is already a crowd beginning to form.

Mo has been living just outside of town for a few months now, performing odd jobs for the locals in exchange for some extra coin and goods. Yesterday he finished up his time with the local blacksmith, who need help unloading a large shipment of supplies. Today he'll be looking for a new source of employment, he heard that Mayor Higgins is making a special announcement, perhaps that will lead to something.
He goes through his morning ritual of meditating and playing his Wake Up song on his giant drum, before getting ready to head into town.

The loud thumps of Mo's drum echo through the trees of the Black oak forest, reaching the ears of the Village blacksmith on the edge of town. "Sounds like Mo is up..." Slag will say to himself, running his hand through his custom made beard of breaded chains. The large warforged will make his way to his forge and pull our a glowing piece of steel before pounding hit with his hammer to the beat of Mo's drum. Working quickly and precisly, he will begin shaping the metal into a blade while turning and yelling into the shop. "Hey Bronzebeard, When yer finished with that Elk bone handle, we need to close up the shop for a bit... I want to make sure I hear what the Mayor has to say in town....
Sayre has lived in a camp just outside of town as well but has been regularly employed by Smoke's Imports being a close family friend of the importer whose bought goods from her tribe the Tuuletar for many years. Coming to Black Oak a village that treated her tribe well when they traveled through made Sayre linger. She already had helped Smoke on several occasions thwart theifs and shakedowns from the local riff-raff.
Sayre has noticed the other party around the town but has yet to approach them. She chooses instead to remain in the company of Smoke as well as the other townspeople she knows and who known her since childhood. Her tribe having made usual stops in Black Oak for many years and had always brought a sense of the larger world to the tiny backwater.
Sayre can hear the booming of the drum echoing through the forest, causing birds to flutter from nearby trees and small critters to scurry into their hiding spots. You have heard these drums every morning for a few months now but never gone to investigate. While in town visiting Smoke at his shop, Smoke mentioned seeing a large Goliath walking through town with a huge drum slung behind his back. He said that the newcomer had been in and out of town recently picking up odd jobs and even helped carry an old shield guardian into his shop for him.
Between the drum beat and the ringing of Slag's anvil as you walked past on your way into town, your ears are ringing too much to over hear anything in particular. There is a crowd forming in front of Lead Belly's inn and a small stage has been quickly constructed and is being inspected by the village carpenter. Walt Blitzen, the dragonborn carpenter is standing nearby inspecting his work, giving the stage a quick walk around before climbing the steps and jumping up and down a couple times before giving a thumbs up to the crowd.
It wasn't even noon and Thimbol was already forced to climb out of bed and start his day. More of a night owl, the halfling preferred to sleep well into the afternoon, but recently, over the past couple months the banging from the goliath made it near impossible, "Darn, troll." He'd mutter as he readied himself for the day before hitting the streets with a bit of confusion. Were other people starting to drum as well? Was it contagious? "What's with all the hammering?!" Thimbol demands to no one in particular, as he saunters past a few of the shops that seem to be closing up early...
"Hey! Hey Thimbol?" A well dressed halfling will yell from across the street as he makes his way toward you. It was Harry Swiftwhistle, the inn keeper of the Broke Oak where Thimbol has been staying recently. "Hey, you heading to the big announcement the mayor is giving today?" Harry will walk next to you will attempting to watch you and the traffic on the street. "I heard he has an idea for getting help with those damn Blood Scales... man I hate every one of those guys don't you? You know a few of them broke into the back of my inn a month ago and stole 3 kegs of my finest ale... CAN YOU BELEIVE IT?!"
Navek stops rowing for a few seconds as the distant sound of drum beats eventually reaches his ears. The aging giant could've sworn there was a familiarity there. But after giving his thining grey beard a few scratches, the goliath goes back to work rowing his way to the docks. As he carried on he let his mind drift back to over a list; instructions nagged to him by the very same old human friend that lent him the boat.
*Find Shahasa's cousin, and let her know to hold on to it till her son could pick it up later. *Get a feel for the town if there's time. *Find the Lead Belly's Beer and Bed's Inn. *Listen to the WHOLE story before going off on a tangent. *And most importantly, DON'T get ropped up into telling one of his stories.
In thinking of the last one, Navek spent most of the remainder of the trip laughing a deep and throaty laugh the majority of the way. "Oh Shahasa.. That woman is such a worrywort." He says to himself during the final docking moments.
"Hmm?" Thimbol almost pretends he didn't hear his name. It normally wasn't a good sign when someone was shouting after him. "Oh. Afternoon, Harry...." He slows only briefly to allow the innkeeper to catch up. "I forget to pay for my room again? You know I'm good for it." Returning to his stride and a direction he wasn't exactly sure where it was leading. "Announcement. Of course.. This way right?" Glancing about the streets to hopefully see others making their way toward the mayor as well. "I haven't really been keeping up with rumors lately, but that's a pretty big one. The Blood Scales weren't all bad starting out, right? They've just become more overconfident. I mean, three kegs of your finest ale is tem… Wait, have you been giving me the cheap stuff?!" Thimbol hadn't even realized the Blood Scales were so close. Stealing from the very inn he was staying in. The halfling might be running out of hiding space.
As Navek pulls into the docks, he notices that there are much fewer people than normal. The small bait and tackle shop nearby is dark and he can overhear a couple of the local fisherman talking about he mayors "big speech" as they head towards the center of town.
As Mo approaches the crowed, a small opening appears snaking through the crowd before a small gnome in an expensive suit and top hat takes the stage. "hello?! hello?!!" he will then turn to Smoke standing nearby. The tiefling will utter some words under his breath before touching the gnome. Giving him a quick nod, the gnome will walk back to the center of the stage. This time, with his voice booming he will say again "Hello!?! Alright, can everyone here me?!" A few of the people in the back of the crowd wave and give him a thumbs up.
"Thank you all for coming today. As your Mayor, it is my duty to protect my people.... " He will lower his head and remove his hat, holding it in both hands "and over the past few months... I... Wilfred Higgins... have failed in that duty. Today, it is my hope that I can call upon some of you! Members of this fine community, to work with me to rid ourselves of this menace once and for all"
(please make perception checks everyone that is attending the speach)
Finding the crowd a little late, Thimbol manages to catch the tail end of the mayor's introduction. The halfling unable to see over the crowds works his way through, small fingers nimbly searching for a loose coin purse.
Sleight of Hand: 6
A missed calculation and the halfling would follow up with an apology about bumping into the individual. Tight crowds. Assuming they believed him and weren't looking for a fight. Otherwise he'd continue toward the front.

Lorarila was pulling into the dock, the small half elf agitation plain by her scowl and her energy making her tap her foot and hand over and over. Most her kind was tall, but Lorarila barely reached 5 feet tall. It was a constant struggle for her especially when around others with elven and fey blood in them. The boat was a small fishing boat she had paid to bring her to the town, the Fisherman each looked tired and didn't approach the Sorcerer. As soon as they got to the dock, she hopped ship storming into the town, she had heard rumors about the town, and it was part of the Black Oak Forest. That was her home! She would find this Gang causing issues and burn them to ashes and then scorch those ashes! She wandered into town where a Halfling stood making a announcement, she slowed listening in to the man. She was curious what he would have to say.
The mayor will motion behind him to the Lead Belly's inn "I plan to offer free room and board to any and all heroes willing to help fight the Blood Scale scourge that has been plaguing out village. Now I know it doesn't look like much now, but this place was built by our Dwarven friend Mr. Leadbelly himself 100 years ago and our resident carpenter has promised to provide free renovations for those who choose to live here and answer the call. Sure 7 years of being empty with no renovations has been hard on the building, but with my plan, we can restore an important piece of our villages history any maybe convince some daring adventurers to stick around our village long enough to stop the Blood Scales once and for all!
(Characters with a perception check over 15 see this)
3 hooded characters have slowly approached the crowd from behind. Their crimson hoods are pulled down over their faces but they each appear to be holding crossbows, trying their best to keep from drawing attention to themselves.
The Mayor will pause for a moment while the crowd claps "Mr. Leadbelly was a beloved friend this village. He helped found Black Oak with the help of my grandfather. Together they built the lumber-mill and inn that were the heartbeat of this village for a great number of years..."
(I don't think my character rolls double digits...)
(That might be because) As thimbol attempts to reach into the taller mans pocket, the man notices and quickly spins around. Expecting a larger person to be behind him, he accidently backhands Thimbol in the face... bloodying his nose and causing his eyes to water. "Hey!..ohhh OHH, I am sorry! I uhh... Sorry about that" He then turns back towards the mayor
