Hello all! I'm looking for 4-5 players for exactly what the title says! This will be a very laid back PbP game played right here in this forum. First and foremost, I am a father of eight kiddos and I also work out in the oilfield! So trust me I know all about “never having enough time” lol. That’s why this game will be pretty chill for the most part. I’d love it if you could post at the very least once a day but as I said, I know things come up, and if you’ll be unable to post for a little bit, just let the rest of us know in private message forum that will be set up for this game. I will be enabling Content Sharing for this campaign, so if you want to wait to create the character all the way, you can. I’d also like it if you’ve never played HotDQ before as well. I’m also pretty “Newbie” friendly, having recently taught my 6 older kids how to play!
Guidelines:
Characters: Official content only for characters/classes/spells. Sorry I don’t like homebrew ☹. NO evil characters, not looking to deal with murder hobos. Please make your character able to get along with everyone, within reason of course (a little conflict is always fun). You’ll all know each other at least a little bit.
We’ll roll for stats, use the dice roller and select “Ability Scores” and use “reroll ones once”. Example: Ability scores: 101210121515
What I’ll need from you:
Name:
Ability Scores rolled:
Race:
Class:
Background:
You can tell me a little about your character if you’d like, or wait for session 0 in private messages to go into more detail 😊. Use the starting equipment for now.
Posting:
When posting we’ll use “OOC:” and regular font for any direct talk from person to person or DM.
In character please pick a Color to use for your characters actual Speech as well as put the font in “Italics”. Example: Lothiat walks to the merchant and says, “Have you got any fruit for sale?”
If you’d like to post what your characters thinking for RP situations, use “< >” symbols on either side of the text. Example: Lothiat plops down at the fire, <Gosh I’m so hungry, why didn’t the rest want to stop and hunt>. When this is done the other characters then know that they did not actually hear this, it was only done for story/RP reasons.
Rolls will be done with the dice roller using the standard form of what you’re rolling for (in bold) followed by : and the dice roll. Example: Investigation: 5
If you are unsure what to roll, you can Ask or roll what you think it should be if you don’t want to wait. If I think different I’ll say so and wait for the re-roll! 😊.
Well I guess that’s about it everyone! I’m looking forward to having a good adventure with you!
Ahriman hails from in the Field Ward of Waterdeep and got by stealing food and minor trinkets from Waterdeep's nobility. The proximity of the Field Ward to the North and Sea Wards (where the nobility lives), made it a tempting base of operations for an upstart thieves ring. Ahriman, far from a professional thief, thought that they would leave him alone if he kept to himself. He was wrong, the criminal group put pressure on the pick-pocketing poor to give them a piece of the wealth they stole, not caring that most of what they stole was food and other necessities.
The criminals began to make examples of those who couldn't pay their dues. The local authorities were looking the other way, mostly at the coin being dropped into their pockets. Desperate to find a way to pay his due, Ahriman pushed further and further into the wealthy wards. One night he broke into a curio shop, sure he would find some trinket or bauble of value. He was drawn to a small, locked chest in a back room. Inside was the broken shard of a blade, its hilt wrapped in worn leather. He felt compelled to reach for it, to wrap his hand around the grip, to run its jagged edge across the throats of those who oppressed him.
It was when he touched it that he heard the voice, soft and steady, offering him the power to stand up to those who stood on him. He took the blade and the next day, he gave the collectors' their cut. He didn't stop there. Using his newly found power and years honed skills in stealth and burglary, he stole into the homes of the newly formed crime ring, and gave them their cut as well. Even the captain of the local guard wasn't spared from Ahriman's vengeance, an act he is now wanted for.
The message was sent, and the remnants of the ring stayed away from Ahriman and his friends. Ahriman uses his eldritch power to keep himself hidden from the authorities. Most often he assumes the identity of Quinn Miller, a middle-aged human male with weathered features and graying hair.
Occasionally, the voice of the blade calls out to him with tasks to complete. One such task took him on a weeks long trip into the mountainous north. He hiked for days through the wilderness before coming to a small pile of stones. The voice instructed him to arrange these stones into a geometric pattern and speak a word from a strange tongue. Seemingly nothing happened, but the voice was pleased just the same.
Another task had him steal a jeweled broach from a noble woman and deliver it to another. A week later the town rumor mill was buzzing with the story of prominent member of nobility embroiled in an affair with his political rival’s wife.
The voice has even tasked him with taking life. This is an uncommon ask and he is always assured that the life he takes is deserving of such a fate – that the throat he cuts is poised to cut the throats of others. Ahriman believes that there is something more behind the blade, some larger agenda that isn't yet clear, but it gave him to the power to free himself and so he is compelled to obey.
Background: Flynn was "fired" from his last troupe because well jelousy i would say, the others were jealous because i was the center of attention (especially from the fairer people in the audience). On his own now looking to make an even bigger name for himself or at least a story or two
I'm still developing the backstory. Something along these lines, I think:
Night Whisper did not realize her influence in the world of politics. She was happy to be a guide for nobles seeking the thrill of an adventure and little of the danger. She was sought after by lords and wealthy merchants as a tracker and guide, which allowed her the freedom to explore the world in between jobs. It was a care-free life. She was a choice target for the political rivals of her patrons, however. When "Master Parcet", which she knew was not his real name, trapped her at the Misty Falls crossing, he proved to her that she was important enough to threaten her nieces and nephews....and sisters and parents. Now Night Whisper steals secrets and passes them along. Her carefree lifestyle is gone. She has no love for her patrons. They are just a source of income, after all. But she loathes Master Parcet and his goons. Until she can figure a way out for her family, she must keep spying and stealing secrets. Though she dreads the day when Master Parcet asks her for more than she can deliver...
"Fairness implies you were wronged... vengeance suggests I was."
Background: Sevrn holds the military rank of Sargent from his career as a soldier. Soldiers loyal to his former military organization still recognize his presence and reputation, and they defer to him if they are of a lower rank. Sevrn can stare down a hell hound without flinching. He's haunted by memories of war and can’t get the images of violence out of his mind. He'll never forget the crushing defeat his company suffered or the enemies who dealt it.
Description/Backstory: Sevrn's home was set to fire and his human father killed in a night time raid by a neighboring warlord when he was just a boy. His town was raised, and his elven mother's was murdered in ritual as he was pulled from her arms and thrown into a death pit by the druid Dubhtach. It was miraculous that he survived the night, and the next morning, crawling out from under the bodies of his townsfolk, he was conscripted into his lord's army as it passed through the remnants of his town. There he served 13 long years through horrific war, bloody conquests, and shattering defeats in pursuit of the warlords army... and still, Dubhtach eludes him. But Sevrn is half-elven and Shevarash has taken interest.
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
General Goal: The trail for Dubhtach ran cold years ago and Sevrn needs the gold. Travelling with companions again has reminded him that they weren't all bad times in the military... and its nice to have others to look after for a change.
Personal Goal: Revenge -- if not on Dubhtach, then on those like him...
Background: Wruce was shocked to see his parents being murdered by a criminal in front of his very eyes. Now orphaned Wruce took refuge in a nearby monastery. The Monks there fed him and clothed him and in return they asked for personal perfection through contemplation and rigorous training. When Wruce was older and his skills developed he was sworn to isolation, promising only to emerge to serve as a spy or assassins at the command of their leader, a noble patron. Wruce refused to take another persons life, thinking he would be no better than the thug who killed his parents and ran from the monastery. He now wanders looking for his parents killer and fights crime to ensure no child ever goes through what he did.
I like the idea of a Nordic elder man who is kind of an oracle, you know like with ravens around him. Yeah that's pretty much the vibe I'm going for with this character.
Name: Nam’nha Krump Race: High Elf Class: sorcerer Background:Haunted one
Brief backstory: Abandoned as an infant, Nam’nha was discovered and taken in by a family of wood elves in a small farming village. Everything seamed normal till his teen years. He began hearing a voice in his head telling him he has some power inside of him. The voice never reveals its name or source. Everyone starts thinking he is a little crazy till one day when he is in the fields working, he is startled by a rodent and flames burst out from his hands igniting the field and burning half the crops. Out of fear, his adopted family tell him to leave and find his real family so he can discover the source of this power. Nam’nha wonders the world learning to control his power and often argues with the “voice” that wants him to do things he does not want to do but the “voice has helped him to harness this power more. The “voice” wants to help him with his power but to an unknown motive and so begins his search for answers.

I'm still pretty new to D&D. The only experience I have so far is I'm currently DMing LMoP at home. So, I'd like to play the game as a player, too. Pbp seems to be the best way to do that with kids and a job taking up most of my day. I can post daily, probably a few times most days.
During the Last War, Root was just another nameless Warforged soldier. It was programmed as an elite scout, traversing stealthily through the wilderness to gain valuable intel on the enemy. During these missions, Root grew to love the beauty and tranquility it experienced within nature. These experiences created a spiritual-like bond between Root and the natural elements. Once the Treaty of Thornehold was signed, Root decided to leave civilization to travel the wilds and live a peaceful life amongst the plants and animals of the world .
Due to its programming as a scout, Root has an excellent memory for terrain and is very skilled at drawing maps; although it has no need for them, it enjoys documenting the areas its traveled and will often give them to lost travelers it meets. However, due to the extended periods of time on its own, these brief interactions with others tend to be quick and slightly awkward. Although Root feels more in-tuned with nature than with humanity, it constantly feels the pull of its original function to help protect the weak and innocent.

Nate looks over at his frail father, mear skin and bones of the man he used to be. At that moment his eyes slowly open and with a weak signal summons Nate to come closer. I give you this gift. In shock, he steps back from the bed pulling at his tunic looking for the strange creature.

You all are on your way to Greenest, a town in the southern part of the Sword Coast. You all have been together for a little bit now and recently took a job acting as caravan guards for a merchant out of Baulder's Gate. You have all been on the road for a while now and nearing the town of Greenest. You all are hoping to reach it sometime today. The trip has been DREADFULLY uneventful.
Lets take this time to maybe have a little dialog between your characters, like I said, i'm leaving it up to you how well you all know each other! I'll post again in the morning.
