The name has struck fear into the hearts of all who live under its shadow for generations. The tale of the mad wizard Keraptis and the devious deeds he committed before retreating into the mountain's smoke-shrouded caves is a favorite within the aural tradition of the Great Swamp and surrounding regions. Both Keraptis and the mountain's history have passed into myth, and truth has turned to fable. Few truly believe that he ever lived, and none were prepared for the message that was found in the Duke's Archives where the Regent King Osrik kept three of his most treasured weapons.

King Osrik has gathered up the most noteworthy men and women in his lands to travel to White Plume Mountain, bring justice to the thief posing as Keraptis, and retake the stolen weapons. They will be richly rewarded, but their work will not be easy...
Expectations
1.) This is a stand alone adventure, not a full campaign.
2.) Characters should be 8th level and I won't be tracking XP. Please only use content from the PHB or Xanathar's Guide, and use the Standard Array method for assigning stats.
3.) White Plume Mountain itself is rather nonsensical, so this doesn't have to be a serious adventure. "Joke" characters are just fine.
4.) I intend to take a meandering pace through this adventure, focusing on exploration and interaction within the party. I will try to anticipate your questions and address them in my posts to reduce back-and-forth, but I will not rush a scene to its conclusion.
5.) Try to post once a day. If you are needed for a scene, I will wait a day and then act for your character to keep things moving.
To join, please post a character along with a short description and backstory. Everyone who posts is in. If there are too many people for one party then I will split the group to explore different paths in the dungeon at the same time. I'm looking forwards to playing with all of you!
Wruce was shocked to see his parents being murdered by a criminal in front of his very eyes. Now orphaned Wruce took refuge in a nearby monastery. The Monks there fed him and clothed him and in return they asked for personal perfection through contemplation and rigorous training. When Wruce was older and his skills developed he was sworn to isolation, promising only to emerge to serve as a spy or assassins at the command of their leader, a noble patron. Wruce refused to take another persons life, thinking he would be no better than the thug who killed his parents and ran from the monastery. He now wanders looking for his parents killer and fights crime to ensure no child ever goes through what he did.

Here she is:
Nova "Raven" Belladonna, a human sorcerer.
Nova was raised only by her mother in a witches cabin deep within the woods. Her mother, one of the most feared sorcerers (to those who dare trespass in her lands), taught her as soon as she was able to learn.
As she grew she showed such great potential, but her mother wanted her to be better. Nothing was ever enough for her.
So once Nova was able to go off on her own, she did, her mother standing by without protest. They didn't leave on a bad foot, but before she left her mother told her that she would never be as good as she was.
Now, she's using what she knows and what she is learning, to go back and beat her mother at her own game... Eventually.

While an imposing Bronze Dragonborn, Cleese was actually part of a small, comedic traveling troupe. The group loved telling stories, until they dried up. Because of that, the group eventually began to break up. Cleese then had a brilliant idea - He'd go out and MAKE new stories. That got him laughed out of the group, but he was certain that this was the way to go. Come hells or high water, those stories will be GLORIOUS!
Raised by mages with no talent it quickly went from support to shame to scandal. Eventually there was nothing left at home and with no real skills theft was the only option.
Rowan Starseeker: An elderly human wizard who has spent his life studying the intricacies of magic. As such, he is not as physically able as he used to be but his mind is keen as ever. His goal is to discover long forgotten secrets and preserve them in his library.
Backstory: A middle-aged human male that has always had a chip on his shoulder. He is well known in his home village and it's surrounding environment as the "best rapper alive". He has since set out to etch his name in history books and spread his name across the known world.
Originally a cabin boy on a passenger ship, Dennis learned some basic magic from a travelling wizard that had booked passage on the ship. The wizard was impressed with his ability to learn magic, so he took him on as an apprentice for a while, and taught him necromancy. Once Dennis was to move on from skeletons to actual bodies, he realized he was disgusted by their rotting flesh, and left his master to pursue glory. This quest is something he believes will push him to greater heights- though he isn't sure what that means.
It looks like we have 10 players, plus a few people who have not yet made a character. I'm going to close recruitment down, and I'll start the game thread this afternoon.
We will begin play on this thread, then move to two separate threads once the group splits.
"Aha! 'Ere it is, the fabled entrance to the 'feathered mound':" Embry Abelson, your guide, pauses for dramatic effect. "The Wizard's Mouth!"
As if to underline his statement, a moaning blast of hot steam mixed with ash issues from the crevasse in front of you. The tubby dwarf takes a moment to gaze back at the forested landscape miles below, then ties off a rope and leads your decent into the yawning gap.
Prepare yourself for the challenges that lie ahead, then follow him down.
Alexandria stayed at the back of the group with her arms crossed in front of her chest, not being too comfortable around so many people at once. She silently walks behind the others, her eyes scanning their backs, trying to read them by just their looks. Who seems friendlier... Who looks weakest...

((OOC: I changed my character's name from Nova to Alexandria, sorry for the confusion, I'm happier with that name more! I also forgot to roll perception D:))

I'll join! I’m now joined with a wizard. His leveling is almost fully updated, I just need to finish his backstory.

Do you have any restrictions on alignment?
I'm in. Dennis Frostgaard, necromancer at your service. Not a big fan of dead bodies though, which makes some things problematic sometimes.

Originally a cabin boy on a passenger ship, Dennis learned some basic magic from a travelling wizard that had booked passage on the ship. Hi ZulkRS, you can make your character whatever alignment you want.
It looks like we have 10 players, plus a few people who have not yet made a character. I'm going to close recruitment down, and I'll start the game thread this afternoon.
What about equipment? Can I Take the starting gold and use it to get starting equipment based on prices listed in the PHB
What will be the leveling type (If there is one), feat use and Max HP type?
You can use whatever method you want for equipment and HP. Feats are just fine, too. Leveling type doesn't really matter.
Alright. I joined the campaign and am just fine tuning the character (moving a few stats around, adding a description and backstory, all that stuff.)
We will begin play on this thread, then move to two separate threads once the group splits.

Roderick looks at the dwarf as he starts his descent and quickly follows, saying nothing yet simply observing.

Alexandria is sizing all of your characters up. Does your character come off as good natured, mysterious, capable, or something else?
