You were traveling on a ship heading to a distant city when a sudden storm rose all around and tossed your ship like a toy boat. Working feverishly you fought with the crew to keep the ship afloat but no matter how hard you tried it was a losing battle. After days fighting the sea the ship let out a loud CRACK and soon everyone was in the water. You clung to a piece of detritus hoping against all hopes to survive until recued but the battle you had been fighting and the struggle to keep afloat eventually got the best of you and you slipped into unconsciousness.
You wake to the sound of lapping water and feel gritty sand beneath you. Opening your eyes you find yourself on a beach with palm trees lining it and multiple others waking as well. The others you see are individuals you have never seen before and you momentarily wonder what could have happened to the crew of your ship and then where the others could have come from.....
This is a RP set in the world of Faerun but customized for the setting. Each member was shipwrecked and woke on the shore but you have never seen anyone else that you wake up and find. Create a Lvl 1 custom PC of any race and type. Playtest, Critical Roll, and Eberron content are allowed. Standard Array, Point Buy, or rolled stats dropping 1's are accepted. Your PC can only have equipment that they may have kept in their pockets or around their necks such as medallions and the like. Give a background and also tell me why they were travelling and in what position on the ship did they fill. Were they a sailor, a passenger, a stowaway, etc. Creativity is preferred.
This is designed to be a mystery adventure with some open world elements and I am thinking it will be pretty fun with the right group.

Backstory, When I was a young I was kidnapped by pirates and over he years I found it to be quite interesting. One day we got a newcomer a orc named Uggh we help him in the bright until he could be broken in over the weeks we had become close friends now we are separated and my goal is to find him.
I was going to do a monk but look how many there are in the thread! So here goes a crazy idea I dreamed up.
Name: Night Whisper
Race: Tabaxi
Class: Barbarian
Background: Criminal
Night Whisper was always a good Tabaxi, never causing trouble or interested in harming anyone. In fact, compared to most Tabaxi, she didn't share as deep of a desire to roam and learn about the world. Her sedate life turned on its head when she killed her lover in a jealous rage. She was guilty, and angry, and the world no longer made sense. She fled and joined a traveling circus, which took her all over Faerun, conditioned her physically, and gave her new skills as a performer. She served as an acrobat, a strong"man", an animal tamer, and more. But she never stopped being angry. Hers was a quiet rage, inwardly focused. When the circus was traveling across the sea, she spent many nights pacing the deck. To everyone else, she was polite, kind, good-hearted. Inside, she raged like the storm that rocked the ship into the shoals, stranding her with no friends on a foreign beach. She has nothing left but the anger fueling her to keep running from her past...but she can never run away from herself.
Theo often spent his time looking up at the sky and speaking to himself. After all it was his job as the star charter and night time navigator of the ship. Theo comes from a long line of map makers, Theo wanted something to stand out from his family. He set off exploring to be the first to see and chart the entire star map.
Shank had a background in clerical studies in the large cathedral outside Waterdeep in elven country. Life was relaxing and carefree until it was discovered, through several misadventures, that he had latent dragonblood in his veins. Everything turned upsidedown and those he thought were friends turn on him. He was shunned from the village and had to make his way on his own. He found consistent work as an interpreter for the Eversoul elf bloods with whom he was traveling on business. You never know what can happen and waking up in the sand with a bunch of strangers is not exactly what he had in mind. It might be time to take life by the seat of it's britches and shove it in the direction he wants to go instead of waiting for it to push him around.
Jut. He wasn't a passenger but cargo. The last of his family defeated and sold as a slave. The half orc Barbarian never had much and has less now. A hardass by most standards he was always viewed as soft by the horde for his jokes. How he misses the taunts.
Kurik was a stowaway on the ship. He didn't really value money, so he didn't really keep much on him, but he needed a way to travel across the ocean. He snuck onto the ship and hid in the darkest corners of the hold.
History: Booker was found on the shores of the sword coast by some priests. These scholars brought him back to health , but that did not help his memory loss. Seen he was a big individual and meant to be in some way or another, they guided him to the temple of Tempus. There they tutored him and yet they found he had the ability to take the blessing of Tempus and heal others. With some difficult times of learning and finding the ability to do what the shaman's of his tribe could also do, he was glad and eager. With the build and power he possessed within his arms and faith, taking up the healing and still fight was a advantage in his mind. Though he still longed to get back to his tribe and yet he did not know where they could be at. With a scared up face and faith he would find his tribe, he set forth on his voyage. Purchasing a passage on a ship to to North, with little coins left, he set forth.

History: Coriana was a runaway from her boring farming rural family. Cutting her hair and disguising herself as a boy she joined up with a merchant vessel, only to turn pirate after a mutiny. Her ferocity in combat made her feared and she kept her career in piracy going after revealing her true gender. She joined up with the crew pretending to want to go straight, but really hoping to incite a mutiny and seize the ship, but had little luck rousing the loyal crew before the ship was wrecked. When she went in the water, she nearly drowned. She didn't get a good breath and eventually tried to breathe, water filling her lungs as she felt the blackness wash over her. Then she heard his voice in her head. "I AM THE LORD OF THE DEEP. SERVE AS MY BLADE AND I WILL SAVE YOU." Seizing her chance she thought, "Yes" then blacked out. She then awoke on the beach, wondering just what she had agreed to.

Name:Kruphal Race: Triton Class: Warlock (Great Old One) Background: Archaeologist Position: Stowaway Backstory: Kruphal is one of the triton, and as such spent a lot of his time living in the deep waters. He would study the ancient ruins that could be found there, amongst other activities. At one point, he heard a calling from deep in the depths, deeper than he had never been; far, far away. He took this to be a calling of a great power, perhaps a god. He arrived in the human civilisations, learning a bit about them and their cultures before feeling that pulling again, leading him to a ship. Though he had learnt some of the human customs, it hadn't earned him any coin. He managed to lurk in the water and pull himself up onto the side of the ship, stowing away in the cargo hold. While the ship continued, he felt that tugging urging him to hurry. Then the storm hit. He saw it as some sort of omen, a message from the powerful entity that was calling him. He accepted the storm with open arms, then a cargo crate fell on his head, knocking him out. While he was unconscious, he heard the voice for the first time. THE PACT HAS BEEN SEALED. He then awakens on the beach, unsure as to what happened, but he knows that something on this island must be what was calling him, or perhaps this is where the calling wanting him to be. The world works in mysterious ways, as now he is learning he has some abilities he didn't have before.
Applications are close for now. I will be reviewing and contacting each of you after I've had a chance to properly go through them all. I am trying to decide whether I will run one larger group or split into a couple smaller, there are a lot of applications here I really think will be interesting in how they interact. I know the larger groups can be total chaos but this type of RP may be perfect for that. Feel free to give your thoughts. I will probably start the formal RP on Monday.

I don't mind a big group, but you have to try and balance the different time zones with keeping the game moving along if people don't post in a timely fashion. I bet your scenario would benefit from a session 0 with a big group too, where players can RP getting to know each other (maybe that is already built in!)
