With the new UA out today, do you want me to be an actual dragonborn now? Trade in the breath weapon for the wings until 4th level and then get the breath weapon back (or maybe take the roar instead)? If you want my crunch to be in line with my fluff I'll change it.

Do as you feel its more like your character.. at least is my two cents :)
If the GM allows it, that elven accuracy feat has my name.. if I ever reach lvl4 ;)
I mean.. I am the guy who heard dragon or band of marauders and said " aaw, to hell let's find out.. what could go wrong? " hehe
You can change to whichever base race you wish, but regardless of your choice, here is my ruling regarding the new UA content and Saleek's race:
Whether you are are a refluffed Aarakocra or an actual Dragonborn, you will still fall under the Dragonborn race, and therefore you can access dragonborn feats.
I am in facing allowing the use of the Racial and Skill Feats, in addition to the other UA material.
I'll stay aaracokra refluffed as Dragonborn then. It basically gives most of two out of the three feats, and cuts me off from the other one in return for not having breath weapon or damage resistance, a more useful racial ASI, and more flying speed.

First, I'm a bit newer to this big online D&D community thing, so where can I get a PDF of the new UA?
Second, how exactly do feats work? Until 5e, feats were given at level increments as boosts. In the PHB, it says they replace class features. Is this universally true that they replace features or are there some feats that don't require the trade-off?

Characters:
Grishkar Darkmoor, Necromancer of Nerull the Despiser Kelvin Rabbitfoot, Diviner, con artist, always hunting for a good sale Bründir Halfshield, Valor Bard, three-time Sheercleft Drinking Competition Champion, Hometown hero
When you get an Ability Score Improvement from your class, you can use it to take a feat, and that is the only way to get one. the new UA is available here.
Thank you for the link and clarification. I saw some feats before, but was mistaken by the wording and immediately stopped reading. Time to revist that chapter!

Sorry for the radio silence on my end. Unfortunately, this sight is blocked on my work computer, so I can't access it during down time. I'll try to post using my phone tomorrow.
Lol so I was worried there was too much magic in the party and not enough melee. Just did a re-cap to see who is what now that we are rolling out, and I realized we have: Fighter, ranger, paladin, monk, and wickedly melee-centric cleric....oh and a sorcerer.
I originally thought of the following character: escaped criminal boards a pirate ship for escape, months at sea leads to freedom, but the ship is caught by naval authorities. Among the crew is a seer preparing a demonic ritual to summon a creature for aid. My character was prepped as sacrifice until captured. Before being taken, the seer grabs an axe, buries it in my character's neck and shoves him overboard. Bleeding out, the criminal hears a whisper offering relief. Days later, he wakes on the shore surrounded by wreckage and gore. He is now a warlock devoted to Dagon, Demon Prince of the deepest abyss and hoarder of ancient secrets and knowledge. In exchange for life and power, the criminal, "Whisper" as he's known, can only speak a limited amount each day or risk losing a piece of his soul. However, he now has incredible psychic abilities granted by Dagon.

I think 'balanced' parties are over rated anyway - but yes I think we've got a good blend of martial and magical powers - and an interesting mix of races - even if there may be a bit of tension between our Dragonborn currently.
Haven't played much 5e and never a monk so please feel free to correct any mistakes I may make :)
Out of curiosity WarfrontJack - when you created this campaign did you want it to be a single adventure or more of an ongoing one? That is if you can even say without giving too much away.
I created is world as ideally an ongoing adventures, in almost an episodic fashion. First I created the world, then I make the world populated, and then I make quests. Honestly, I have a deluge of material at my disposal. So if you all wish to continue after an adventure or have things come to a close, then it shall be so. I cater to my players.
Yes yes and yes!!! I may be relatively new to D&D Beyond and 5e, but I have been looking for dedicated group play for YEARS (since early 4e and even when I was young and found my dad's AD&D books).
If you've got the stage, I'd be happy to provide the puppets in this grand marionette show.

Yeah, I had cemented my character background thinking I would be the only dragonborn. Hopefully things don't get too awkward between Rhogash and Salleek.
I've been waiting to do that. With base 50 feet flying speed, I doubt Rammen will be able to catch up as Salleek spams the Dash action :P
To CRich: Salleek is from far off land, so IC it would can still make sense that he would think he was the only one (until now). Or did you mean only dragonborn in the party?

Oh I can give you a run for your money - my base walking speed is 50 feet so I can spam the dash too ;)
and every other round I can use feline agility with allows me to move twice my speed in my move turn (but I have to not move for a round in order to use it again)
I meant only Dragonborn in the party. I'm not usually a fan of a lot of tension in the party, so I've tempered Rhogash a bit. He was initially going to be outright hostile toward anything with scales.

Yeah not sure what you did to irk the templars - but we're having a rousing good time at the tavern!

You're not really bad off, a good set of artillery and a couple tanks is what makes a balanced party.
