(Oh heck no! I'm getting reeaaaaal tired of my familiar being targeted for crap. XD)
If Jury was not so focused on observing the going-ons with Grixx following the explosion, the warforged might've paid more attention to the psychic 'epp' emitted by Verdict after having once again narrowly avoided death by way of watery doom. Instead, he sent the quick "request" for Verdict to retreat back behind the door. A request the brave little construct actually heeded this time.
The Jury only had eyes for the struggle. And in catching at least a glimpse of unnatural but ongoing activity in the light about Grixx, he made a beeline for the area, diving just below a probably floundering Drago along the way to capture his thus far most vexing foe. Even as the beast's bulk begins materializing in view, Jury keeps pedaling with an outstretched staff before him; turning his whole body into a makeshift spear in hopes of lessening at least some water resistance. "Rule Four!" He shouts as the tip of his staff began glowing a dark light that threatened nothing less than harm.
Hasted Action:Dash for both momentum and avoid charging into Drago.
Action: Jury Casts Inflict Wounds (level 3-Final). Attack: 14 Damage: 33 of Necrotic Damage. (If still at disadvantage, here's the other roll: 12).
Future Reaction: If Aboleth survives and tries to move out of his reach, Jury will cast Guiding Bolt(at disadvantage due to proximity) at him next. Only if he attacks first with tentacles will he cast Shield if it proves necessary - Threshold: AC 24 - 28.
Verdict hides as Jury swims closer to the Aboleth, an outstretched finger hoping to touch the ancient monster. The creature knows what to expect this time, swirling in place just enough to avoid the touch.
LEGENDARY ACTION (end of Jury's turn.)
The Aboleth retaliates.
-> Tail Swipe (melee weapon attack with reach) vs. Jury: Attack: 19Damage: 15 bludgeoning. The warforged's sturdy frame is able to withstand the blow.
Face down on the wet sand, the Pale Elf begins to suffocate.
The Aboleth will move on to his previous target, its will set on bringing Grixx under. (It moves in a way that avoids triggering an attack of opportunity from Drago, but it still does so for Jury.)
-> Guiding Bolt (ranged spell attack at disadvantage) vs. Aboleth: Attack: 12Damage: 22 radiant. (I have already marked the spell slot down for you.) The spell fizzles, a rare occasion for the experienced wizard.
Once it reaches Grixx, the Aboleth will use its tentacles' reach to try and bludgeon the barbarian even though he is above water:
-> Tentacle (melee weapon attack with reach) vs. Grixx: Attack: 10 Damage: 12 bludgeoning.
-> Tentacle (melee weapon attack with reach) vs. Grixx: Attack: 13Damage: 12 bludgeoning.
-> Tentacle (melee weapon attack with reach) vs. Grixx: Attack: 27Damage: 11 bludgeoning.
-> Its accuracy suffers when reaching above water. Grixx is only hit once more.
(@Grx: I can't tell if Grixx is unconscious yet. I would guess not, but I suspect he would not be very far from 0 HP right now. Let me know.)
26. Charles - diseased (counter: 6); 22. Drago - under the effects of Potion of Water Breathing (counter: 594) and Blink (counter: 16); 20. Grixx - under the effects of Oil of Slipperiness (i.e. Freedom of Movement), also Raging (counter: 5) and diseased (counter: 9); 19. Lair 16. Jury - concentrating on and affected by Haste (counter: 3); 15. Pale Elf - unconscious, incapacitated, and suffocating (counter: 3); 12. Aboleth
Drago sees the water motion and will follow the monster towards Grixx. If he is able to triangulate correctly and find the monster he will cast Toll the Dead (DC16 wisdom save or take 8 necrotic damage.) He looks towards Grixx, if the warrior is not conscious he will use his bonus action to cast healing word, otherwise he will use his bonus action to move the Spiritual Weapon closer (move to AJ, 3). He then calls his Broom of Flying to him "Burninator!" and climbs aboard: Blink roll: 19: And Drago dissappears!
With his pistol reloaded, Charles is not about to let his opening go by. He quickly fires two shots at the flapping tentacles. The bullets go through the soft flesh (Aboleth - CMD: 103).
LEGENDARY ACTION (end of Charles' turn).
A tremendous tail come out of the water, slamming down at Grixx:
-> Tail Swipe (melee weapon attack with reach) vs. Grixx: Attack: 25 Damage: 20 bludgeoning. The slam hurts more than it should given Grixx's enraged state.
-> (I'm rolling a second attack in case of a crit, since Grixx attacked recklessly: 26). Never mind... reckless was not until the forthcoming turn.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The flailing tentacles give the Aboleth's position. Drago uses the creature's mistake to his advantage and swims towards it and Grixx, letting a spell out.
-> Aboleth's WIS saving throw {DC 16}: 24. A slight rot grows from one of the holes left in a tentacle by Charles' bullets (Aboleth - CMD: 111).
Burninator moves a bit closer to Drago and the ephemeral sword inches closer to Grixx as well.
LEGENDARY WEAPON (end of Drago's turn).
The Aboleth seems to be blinded by its own rage.
-> Tail Swipe (melee weapon attack with reach and advantage) vs. Grixx: Attack: 19 Damage: 19 bludgeoning. Another accurate slam! (OOC: There is no advantage, so I'm ignoring the second d20 roll within the tooltip.)
Grixx lets out a yelp with fervor, slicing one of the tentacles clean off. The Aboleth responds by thrusting its own body out of the water, coming from the depths in an attempt to swallow the barbarian whole. As the huge maw begins to envelop Grixx, the human warrior thrusts his sword at an angle. The blade burst through the other side, popping one out of three of the creature's eyeballs. Grixx uses his strength to partially swing the hooked Aboleth onto land, its body finally limp (Aboleth - CMD: 152->DEFEATED).
Though he needed not be concerned, Jury double-timed it all the same back to the beach to ensure his fellows hadn't fallen prey to beast. Of the elf, he was not concerned, following Verdict's belated, but helpful report on the subject. "Champion Grixx. Pull it further onto land. I have need of it, for it shall prove of further use to our ongoing trial."He calls out as he closes in, having slowed down only just enough as to express it clearly.
Eventually, the warforged climbs onto the bank to survey the situation in the light of Grixx, the gloriously incandescent... He made a mental note never to say that aloud around said warrior. Anticipating his master's request, Verdict squeezes his way back into the room and goes to meet Jury half-way to the fallen elf's body. "You have not slain it."He states loudly more than asks, but pauses all the same. "In approximately twelve seconds, I will enter a cooldown period, rendering me immobile. Champion Grixx, Gunsman Charles. Prepare this creature for questioning. Remove all non-essentials from their person. Clarification. Be gentle. If it should awaken prior, and continue to show hostility. Incapacitate again."
At that, he glances over to Grixx and adds, "Rule Seven. Preservere."
Jury gives his orders while moving towards the Pale Elf, and is now back on land. He also finds time to give Grixx a quick boost. Verdict moves as commanded.
26. Charles - diseased (counter: 5); 22. Drago - under the effects of Potion of Water Breathing (counter: 593) and Blink (counter: 15); 20. Grixx - under the effects of Oil of Slipperiness (i.e. Freedom of Movement), also Raging (counter: 4) and diseased (counter: 8); 19. Lair 16. Jury - concentrating on and affected by Haste (counter: 2); 15. Pale Elf - unconscious, incapacitated, and suffocating (counter: 2); 12. Aboleth
UPDATED MAP:
(Everyone may post their next turn, since the next enemy to go would be the Pale Elf again.)
Grixx finally being able to deal death with his new blade is estatic!
"YES! YOU FELT THE WRATH OF THE SHINY HINEY OF TEMPUS!"
Grixx will attempt run his sword through the aboleth a few times. Not to desecrate it but to make sure this thing is dead since he has never seen one. He will then try to skewer the aboleth and drag is inland to AK,2.
"If I tell people I've seen the 'Shiny Hiney' of Tempus I don't think they would understand. It is only confusing in the common tongue, in elvish the possessive modifiers would be different depending on what you mean, and thus the pun is lost." Drago looks around to see if any of the humans laugh ... "So Grixx, looking at the way you are reacting to your encounter with the monster, I believe you will need this more than me for the time being. Not sure how to help both you and Charles as he seems to be suffering similar symptoms." Drago takes off his Periapt of Health and hands it to Grixx.
Grixx will laugh at Drago's words. Not because it is funny. But because it's what he does if he doesn't hear someone clearly. Grixx heard Drago fine, but did not understand the words used so thinks he misheard him.
"Thank you, Wizard!"
Grixx will take Pariapt of Health and places it on. Is Grixx able to tell a change in his body? Can he tell how the disease is affecting him?
(@Superbad: Remember that we are still in initiative order, so you have to stick to your 30 feet speed. Since the sand is difficult terrain, Charles can get nowhere near the Pale Elf this round.)
Charles begins to move towards his suffocating foe but keeps his pistol aimed at the Elf in case he becomes a threat again in the short term.
Drago, still floating above water atop Burninator, offers his barbarian friend his Tymora's coin neckchain, which serves as a Periapt of Health. The Elf is satisfied at Grixx's laughter following his joke and acceptance of Tymora's coin.
After a sneaky forced laugh, Grixx begins to carry the Aboleth's corpse over to a larger patch of land. He manages to get close but not exactly at the location he planned. Some additional effort will be needed (another STR check next turn).
(@Laserwhit: you forgot you Blink die: 6 - Drago does not go away.)
Seeing the others either occupied or slowed down by the sand, Jury sighs and rolls the Pale Elf over onto their back to at least start stripping them of everything; including clothing. He tries to be gentle, and prioritizes taking any weapons, curious trinkets, and jewels from their person. Of the last two, he hands over to Verdict. Who after everything is said and then, flies over to Jury's back, opens up a compartment, and settles in for the time being for a long, overdue nap. Only once satisfied in at least the moment that no immediate harm would come does he hold out the sword to the others.
"Preliminary Examination complete. Continue it. Entering Cooldown Mode in one moment. Renewing Rule One's Blessing in the event future conflict. Caution. Suffocation has been averted. But we have approximately 30 seconds before enchanted sleep wears off. So act quickly, and bind them for further interrogation."At that, the shield once more begins to glow as Jury finally stops his subtle vibrations in the spot. The instant he does however, smoke starts billowing out of him from exhaust ports all throughout his body; including the subtle vents along the side of his face plate.
Action: Jury casts Bless(level 2) on himself, Grixx, Drago, and Verdict, ending Haste.
