"You leave me no choice. I will pass this trial!" says the Elven Figure, somewhat losing her poise.
-> Longbow (melee weapon attack) vs. Nox: Attack: 14 Damage: 9 piercing. As the arrow hits the bard's shoulder, he feels an intense headache, taking an additional 16 psychic damage.
This attack is enough for Dredge to snap out of the effects of Calm Emotions, but Lot and Karwin remain charmed.
**OOC: I’m using fluid initiative within the party to make this work, if we are strictly sticking to the rolled order, let me know and I will change accordingly**
Sword still sheathed on his back, Dredge moves 30 feet forwards before Nox can make another attack on the Elven woman. The ground right in front of the rest of the party begins to bubble and crack before exploding. A Wall of Fire bursts up in a semicircle, separating the party from Dredge and the figure. “EENNOOUUGGHH! We aren’t here to stop you from completeing your trial, nor should you inhibit ours. I apologize for my mate’s misunderstanding, but you did charm several members of our party. So if all members involved are willing to cease hostilities, then I’m sure we can work out a solution that gets us all out of here. But this squabbling is getting us nowhere. SO PLEASE! LET’S WORK THIS OUT LIKE CIVILIZED PEOPLE! EH? YOU HEAR THAT, NOX? CIVILIZED!”
**Some logistics to go with the wall of fire. The side that radiates heat and does damage is facing Dredge and the elf. Nobody is harmed by the spell unless they try to cross the wall. However, the wall should intercept any arrows headed towards the party, as well as blinding both the elf and Nox to each other, blocking ranged combat. Misty Step should land the elven figure in the wall of fire the way I’ve placed it, and the 60 foot wall has the range to enclose us completely. If I’m off anywhere, please correct me.**
(@All: Yep, fluid initiative is perfectly fine. If there are many posts pending, I usually revert to the proper initiative order, but calling out your turn before another player is also valid. Palfatreos, please take Hydra's turn into account when making your next post).
(@Hydra: All the logistical points you made look right to me, but I think you forgot to specify whether Dredge and the Elf are in the concave or convex portion of the wall. Who is inside the semi-circle and who is outside? In other words, which way is the semi-circle facing? Is the "hot" facing side the inside or the outside of the semi-circle?)
I was thinking that the elf and I are on the inside so that the semicircle stretches from wall to wall (AN19 to AU28 (ish)) with the “hot” side facing the inside as well.
BA: bardic inspiration on Dredge (for 10 minute he can choose, for one time, to add a 1d8 roll to his ability check, attack roll, or saving throw. He have to decide whether to use before the DM tell the outcome.) Nox yells to dredge "I'll leave it your hands"
Action: Countercharm (evrybody should be 30 feet around me so they get advantage on saving trow for frightened and charmed, until end of my next turn) "don't get your emotions get the best of you guys"
Feline Agility (tabaxi racial trait free dash :P) recharge since Nox doesnt move this round.
Resolving the reaction: Nox throws up a magical shield and avoids all damage.
Dredge places his protective Wall of Fire and calls for peace.
Nox inspires Dredge, tries to Countercharm the Elven Figures effect, and recovers some of his burst speed.
(@Palfatreos: Correct me if I am wrong but Countercharm only gives them advantage if they somehow get the chance to roll a saving throw. Unless something gives them that opportunity, they might find themselves not being able to use the advantage you are giving them.)
Still charmed, and not really being able to see what Dredge is doing on the other side of that firewall, Karwin (autopilot) will try to grapple Nox to prevent him from harming the Elven Figure again.
22. Elven Figure 21. Nox 20. Lair 15. Giant Constrictor Snake 09. Karwin - concentrating on Spirit Guardians (counter 89), charmed by Elven Figure (counter: 2); 06. Dredge - concentration on Wall of Fire (counter: 10), sword is a source of Light (counter: 586); 04. Lot - charmed by Elven Figure (counter: 3); 01. Balhannoth
(@Palfatreos: The ceiling is 20 feet tall.)
UPDATED MAP:
NOTE: The squares occupied by the Wall of Fire are representative only. They do not depict the exact squares that the wall would be occupying.
The Elven Figure agrees with Dredge: "Yes, let us solve this diplomatically." She then looks around within the fiery circle a bit, examining it intently. "They can't see us right now, can they?" She does not wait for the barbarian to respond. She teleports behind him (momentarily gaining advantage from "attack-from-unseen-position") and swings her blade:
-> Longsword (two-handed melee weapon attack with advantage) vs. Dredge: Attack: 25 Damage: 49 (16 of which are slashing damage, and 33 of which are psychic damage). In his serene stance, Dredge feels all of the surprise attack.
-> Concentration check on Wall of Fire for Dredge {DC 24}: 28 - (Three Nat20s in a row!) The wall persists.
She the adds, in a completely different tone of voice as the one you have heard until this point: "You fool, I am your trial and you are mine."
NOTE: No one else saw this treachery, because of the Wall of Fire.
Dredge just snarls and spins around to face the creature. “Fine then! HAVE IT YOUR WAY!” He casts Flame Blade and the Wall of Fire streams towards him, coalescing into a large, white hot greatsword. He lunges forwards at the traitorous elf.
To Hit: 27
Damage: 17 Fire
”Apparently this woman is just about as civilized as you are! What is it with you people?”
Dredge barely manages to shrug off Karwin, and replies in despiration ”It’s not what’s wrong with me, it’s what’s wrong with her! She stabbed me! Look at the wound! You heard me! I tried to reason with the woman, then she stabbed me!” Dredge reverses the grapple briefly, grabbing Karwin’s hand and shoving it into the stab wound. ”She’s the first one we’ve faced with a sword. She stabbed me. DID YOU HEAR ME? SHE DID IT! IT’S TIME TO SNAP OUT OF IT!”
(Thought just occurred to me that hadn’t before: Can I apply to Bardic Inspiration to this or no, since I already know the outcome, as Karwin rolled first? I originally thought no, but since this is a skill check...)
Dredge immediately fights back, also striking with ferocious accuracy. The Elven Figure's gut now sports an open bloody gash (Elven Figure - CMD: 28).
Karwin then rushes toward the druid and attempts to hold him down, but Nox's earlier inspirational moment serves as a warning and Dredge is able to push the samurai aside, gingerly.
Nox moves towards the action now that the Wall of Fire is no longer in place. He can't quite surround the Elven Figure, but attempts so swing his Shillelagh anyway. Even with her deep belly cut, the Elf manages to evade.
Not really wanting to attack any of the parties involved, Lot will take a cue from Karwin and try to hold down Dredge:
Nox reaches out toward the elf and cast Bestow Curse (WIS DC: 17) as for the curse: While cursed, the target must make a Wisdom saving throw at the start of each of its turns. If it fails, it wastes its action that turn doing nothing.
(Just to note, the elf started in the zone of the Spirit Guardians)
Karwin stops trying to wrestle her companion to the ground. Realising that something had been messing with her head, she turns her attention to the elf. "You..." She says, sidestepping onto the body of the dead Baelhannoth and swinging her blade at the elf, attempting to strike her down.
Longsword vs. Elf:11(+10 from Guided Strike) vs. AC. Hit:14 slashing damage.
As a bonus action, she activates her War Priest, allowing for an extra attack.
Longsword vs. Elf:13 vs. AC. Hit:7 slashing damage.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Dredge snarls as the sword again cuts through his midriff. A flash of light runs through his body at he casts Cure Wounds at third level, hoping to recover for the intense beating from the elf.
