Lot struggles at first but soon is able to rearrange some of the runes with the help of some chalk. The quality of the chalk used is lacking, but mixing it with some of the preexisting markings seems to do the trick. A portal appears within the the circles.
All four party members are now starring at the magic portal. It does not look very stable, but it is the only thing in semblance of an exit that you have come across.
Dredge laughs as the portal coughs to life. “There we go! Semi-profesional or not, we move on!” He then draws his greatsword, ready for whatever he may find on the other side of the portal, and steps through.
There is no telling how much time you spend on limbo, but eventually you appear in a room covered in a grassy field. The room is not too large, but seems inviting. The grass sways to a gentle breeze and the moss covering the walls seems healthy and emanates a sweet smell. A reddish-yellow daylight enchantment on the ceiling simulates dusk, giving a worm glow and a pleasant atmosphere. Large bushes and small trees adorn the corners of the room. The eastern wall shelters a closed door. The southern wall sports two others, one closed and one opened. Through the opened one, you can see the beginnings of a stony path leading east.
Nox opens the southwestern door to reveal a vast area beyond it. The room is completely dark, but with the help of his darkvision, the elf sees a great room divided into two areas:
-> The first, closer to the door, has many items to offer. Bookshelves are full of books, tables and chairs invite you to relax, crates and barrels of food and drink are available, and piles of coins can be seen in some corners. The ground, however, seems a bit off. Instead of the grass you saw in the previous room or the stones in the hallways, the first portion of this large room has dried up, cracked earth for flooring.
-> The second part of the room has sand on the ground, and Nox can see the beginnings of a shallow creek traveling southeast. No furniture can be found in this area.
-> Upon opening the door, Nox gets a sensation that he could really use a break from this trials. Some food and drink would come quite handy, right about now.
Dredge goes through the southeast passage and sees a stony hallway leading east. Unlike the large room, this hallway has wall sconces lighting the way. There are three turns leading north and one leading south. Dredge gets the feeling he is close to finding the exit out of this place.
Meanwhile, Lot and Karwin take defensive positions.
Dredge looks over his shoulder and addresses the group. “If anyone feels like coming along, I’m going to see where this tunnel goes. The sooner we find our next trial, the sooner we can see if this competition gets any more worthy of our time, eh?” He then moves to Z31, looking to see what is up the hallway.
Nox move to AA25 and peek his head around the wall to see what south-east.
I grab the coins. After that i look at the bookshelves anything peek my interest while munching on some food.
The elf invisble to creature using darkvision to sense me aslong i am the dark. Umbral Sight XGtE42
You gain darkvision out to a range of 60 ft. (+30 ft. if you already have it). While in darkness, you are invisible to any creature that relies on darkvision to see you in that darkness.
Dredge moves ahead a bit and looks up a 20-foot hallway that ends on a dead-end. Up against the far wall, a glass jar sits atop a stool, clearly left there purposefully (marked by an arrow token in the map).
Nox peeks around the corner (that darkvision for 120 feet is really something...). The elf sees a continuation of the large room. The portion with dried earth for flooring offers many stimuli. The sandy portion offer some relaxation by a clear-water stream. In fact, Nox sees from a distance a slender figure lying on a bed of leaves. The figure seems to be resting by the creek. It is difficult to determine any more details from this distance and only seeing it in a gradient of black and white.
As Lot approaches, he sees Nox go for a pile of coins, sure that the shadows will hide him from the slender figure resting far away. A bit of disappointment overcomes Nox, as he realizes that all coins in the pile are made of copper. It is hard to count them all at a glance, but there must be more than 1200cp here. The elf then reaches for the bookshelves but notices that every book he grabs is filled with blank pages, not a word of knowledge to be uncovered. Next, the rogue eats some of the food. It seems nutritious enough, but neither the apples, or roasted pork have any taste whatsoever (Nox is now a good 80 feet away from the slender figure by the water).
I actually have 90 darkvision (60 elf, +30 umbral sight if i already have dark vision). (there a bug where race dark vision + umbral sight 60 + devil sight 120 are all added together incorectly. dndbeyond would show elf with all those abilities as 240 dark vision while it actualy 120 devil sight (90 darkvision but devil sight overange/overide it).)
Nox grabs handfull of copper pieces. he says to Lot "Shhhhh", he then whisper to him "i think i see a humanoid creature resting, let leave it alone for now". He then move to Lot suddenly appearing out of the darkness and show to Lot and Karwin the empty books and the stale food. "I have no idea what to do with the books you guys can have it, the apple and roasted weirdly have no taste." "Let follow the Dredge". The elf take quick peek behind the door at T30 and then goes back to follow the party.
Hearing the others make this decision, Dredge looks more closely at the bottle, trying to determine what might be inside. He then slips it in his pocket and goes to meet them.
With the other two backtracking, Karwin will nod to them."Let's move out."She says to the others. (If her Detect Magic is still active, she'll keep an eye out with it, checking the corridor for any magical activity.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(@All: Alright folks, please pay close attention at what happens below as not everything you described in your latest posts would actually come to pass).
Nox Grabs a total of 26cp and turns to Lot, who is standing by the door's threshold (Y25), and warns him of the slender figure who is resting. Nox then starts moving towards Lot.
Lot nods to show Nox that he understood the warning and starts heading in Dredge's direction.
Karwin warns Dredge to wait for the others, turns to look over her shoulder and sees Lot on his way. Both Karwin and Lot then enter the hallway that Dredge is in.
Meanwhile, Dredge walks up to the jar sitting atop the stool and picks it up. Inside, he sees a thick, heavy oil, which is also black in color. The druid pockets it and walks back to meet Karwin and Lot who are approaching. Karwin's Detect Magic starts to fade away, but before it does so, it recognizes both transmutation magic coming from the pocketed jar, and a faint but mysterious magical aura all around them.
Nox reaches the threshold in the meantime, where Lot originally was. Upon passing through, the ranger does not find himself in the grassy room, where he expected to be. Instead, he finds himself on the other side of the sandy portion of the large room. Looking at where the slender figure was, Nox sees only a pile of dead leaves.
At this point, the others begin to wonder why Nox is taking so long.
(@All: Just to be clear, Nox never gets a chance to show the books or the foodstuffs to his companions. He never gets the chance to look at the door at T30 either).
THEN, Nox hears the wind shift around him as four tentacles come down at him violently (your high passive perception prevents you from being surprised, but the first attack is still made from an unseen position, and therefore has advantage).
-> Tentacle (melee weapon attack with advantage) vs Nox: Attack: 16 Damage: 11 bludgeoning.
Nox becomes grappled by one of the two tentacles that hit him, and is then dragged 5 feet towards the creature. The attacker, who lost its invisibility after its first attack, shows its big toothy mouth to the rogue. The tentacles each display a full set of flagellum, slimy with some sort of ooze. The large creature also seems to be only revealing its body from the shoulder up, as if coming from the wall.

NOTE: Apart from a feeling that Nox is taking a little longer than he should, the rest of the party has no idea at this moment that a fight has broken out, either visually or audibly.
