(I greatly apologize for the delay, we recently changed up my meds and I've been having difficulties trying to make posts. You can probably guess when we made the change, by when my post started cutting off.
I don't mean to leave everyone hanging, and I'm sorry for the wait. I have worked time into my schedule, starting tomorrow, that will help me get back to posting daily. Thank you for your patience.)
(Kip, it depends on how you try to convince him to let you ride him. You have advantage on all checks against Hagger. I'm sure with enough meat anything is possible.
Vanyel, Bugbears are actually pretty common in Haven and have an entire district around the tunnel exit from the gnome lands. You were an outlier from those that chose to accept the gnome alliance with the "use" of THEIR tunnels. Its a hot topic, that's for sure. Lots of resentment between those races. Anyways, everyone would know that it's common to see bugbears walking above the heads of the countless halflings, kenders, and squirrelings. But you can still lead the way if you wish; thought I'd just give you a heads up about the environment; since it's been a while since we've been in town.)
The group readies themselves, Hagger still gnawing on a piece of salted meat, Penris standing just out of petting reach from him; and Vanyel stepping forward to begin the march farther into Haven. Kip follows behind, pondering on if Hagger will let him ride on his back. As you travel deeper into Haven, past the massive trees of the Tytan forest; each occupied and maintained by numerous Squirreling families. They stare in awe as you pass, wolf in tow. One squirreling calls out; "Kip! Are you alright? Di...did you tame the beast!?! Is it safe?"
"Hagger here has agreed to help me with an important mission.. " Kip would say gently patting the large wolf on the shoulder. "I wouldn't call him TAME, but I am working to train him and I plan to make use of his abilities to protect our community" The squirreling would reply with a nervous smile.
Penris happily bops alongside Vanyel and Hagger, eyes wide as she takes in all the cute squirreling families and their super fluffy and adorable children as they pass. As she is craning her head around and looking everywhere, she jumps and claps her hands together. "Oh! I wonder if my father's library would have anything about this hag's master or a tower to the south? Should we stop by and ask?" she asks the others.
((Is her father the only librarian, or were there others?))
"Wow, Kip is training the beast." The squirreling turns to others nearby. "You hear that Kip is taming the beast to protect us!" The cheers are picked up and carried throughout the district and another chapter is added to the legend of the folk hero Kip.
(Honestly I'd be okay with either one library or many; both would be fine.)
Kip would smile and wave, trying to appear as confident as possible while also trying to get away before any of his family spots him. "Yes! but we must be going! Very important business to attend to... but really quick before I go, have any of you heard anything about a giant diamond? possibly in town?" He would ask, holding out his hands as if to give the dimensions.
"I've heard of it." Calls out an elder gray haired squirreling. The crowd gasps in surprise and turns towards him. They clear the way, as the old man hobbles forward; leaning heavily on his walking stick. "The prestigious Red Mage Academy was known to have a diamond like you described. Back before the massacre..." The old man goes quiet in reflection, the crowd goes quiet in anticipation.
Kip would nod to the old squirreling, trying to show as much respect as possible while placing his hand on Hagger, ever so slightly moving between the large wolf and the elder. "Do you know if it is still there? Hope has asked that we find the this diamond, it is very important... you may notice that the swamp lands that were endangering the forest have begun to recede.. that is because we have followed Hope's word and done her bidding... and now we would like to continue to do great things in her name... but it requires that we find the diamond." He would say with sincerity.
Vanyel once again walks awkwardly, not used to being around larger crowds like this. His eyes darting everywhere to try and determine is there could be any dangers here. His many years of living a solitary life have made him a bit edgy in crowds. At the words of the old man he looks at his companions curiously. "Massacre?"
(I am assuming he does not know what the massacre is. I'll change if it is common knowledge he would know)

"Mr. Bugbear." The old squirreling says to Vanyel. "This is before your time, but before the Wyrwood pushed and slaughtered most races from the Tytan Forest, it all started at the Academy. Where the Wyrwoods were first made, and ended with a massacre against their creators." The old squirreling finds a stump to rest on before continuing. "The Academy is still somewhere in that forest, likely crawling with Wyrwood constructs, but that is where you'd find that diamond."
Kip would let out a heavy sigh at the mention of more wyrwood. "We have met some wyrwood... one was very nice.. he looked like an old man. We have so encountered an evil wyrwood with a long trunk that shoots arrows.." Kip would say looking to the old squirrling. Kip would then giveHagger a quick pat on the shoulder and look to the others. "Well I guess we know where we need to go! can you give up directions there?" Kip would ask the elder as his tail swayed back and forth quickly with excitement
"Oh no." The elder says with a laugh. "I wouldn't know that, you are lucky I recalled it from my pops' pop's stories around the fire." He pauses for a moment to reflect and then continues. "If there is any place with the location, it would probably be in the town's archives."
Penris sighs a little with disappointment. "Well, then I guess we are headed into town and the library!" she announces brightly. "Surely there will be something there about the Mage Academy and this massacre and maybe the diamond. Oh! Maybe we'll get lucky and it will have information about this tower too!" She turns to her companions happily. Seeing Kip with his hand on Hagger, she reaches out towards the wolf and his fluffy fur, then quickly snatches it back before actually touching him. "Thanks for your help, mister!" she says cheerily to the old man.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Thank you for all of your help... I will continue to try to make our community proud. Hope is on our side so we have nothing to fear!" He would say with a smile and a wave. "Tell my family I love them and will see them soon!" He would say before turning and looking to Hagger after pulling a large piece of meat from his pack. "Hey friend, would you mind if I climbed on your back while we walked to the library? I want to show everyone how strong you are and that you are here to help" He would whisper as he carefully hands Hagger the meat before attempting to bounce up on to the back of the hulking wolf.

(DC 15 check to see if any of the townsfolk know about the diamond. Roll: 19)

(Vanyel wouldn't know.)
Penris watches the old man, then glances at Kip and Vanyel as he speaks. "The Red Mage Academy?" she asks.
