Reverie Forestgleam—Human Paladin Level 5 in Frontier City of Nunkreet Extremely busy and busy as ever recently, but I will trying to catch up as much as I can
(OOC: Strictly by the rules, Reverie would not notice anything, given the 60' range and cover from stone. But it is more interesting storytelling if I stretch what Divine Sense can do.)
Reverie senses undead towards the end of the hallway. Towards that middle chamber is something otherworldly, but neither celestial nor fiend. The distance and the stone walls prevent her from knowing what types of beings are in those location.
The chamber to the east next to the party does not react to her Divine Sense, but she feels that undead were here within the past 2 or 3 days. (Maybe that zombie mother ogre thing?)

The party walks into the chamber, and looks around, with Froskan holding up his magic lantern for lighting. The chamber is 20 x 20'. The ceiling (and half of the room) is filled with dirt and stones from a cave-in. The center of the room has a rough pit, like a large tree was uprooted. Scattered around the pit are pieces of coffins and... pieces of dead bodies. As you get closer to the pit, there is a heavy stench, which is making all of you feel nauseous.
After looking around quickly to check that there is nothing else in the room, you retreat back to the hallway, and compare notes. Your best guess is that the clerics of Talona planted a corpse flower on some graves, and added more dead bodies to it as it grew. When it grew large enough, it pushed through the ceiling to reach the surface, causing a cave in behind it. (This was not recent.) You won't be able to track it, but you can alert Bommie and Murphy later that a vile plant monster is roaming freely.

Reverie frowns ever so slightly after sensing the undead presence and witnessing all these horrible sights along with a corpse flower. "... This is not good at all." Then she looks towards the end of the hall. " I also sense the undead over there. I guess we better prepare ourselves for good."

(OOC: I'll need feedback on how the group is proceeding.
What is next, the chamber halfway down the passage, or all the way at the end?
Is the whole party moving as a group, or are some stealthier members trying to scout ahead and then return?
Any preparations? If you are casting spells, mention them. If trying to be stealthy, roll the Stealth check.

Your group is even with the middle chamber entrance. (There is a stone/earth slab blocking the view inside, like a doorless outdoor swimming pool locker area.) Your stealth isn't too bad, but you cringe with every metal creak and groan of your armor.
There were loud sounds inside, of flesh rending and teeth biting and heavy bones slapped on a table, but at the last metal clank from your group's armor, those sounds go quiet.
You don't need Iskander's magic weapon to warn you that there is danger inside, or Reverie's Divine Sense to tell that there is something unearthly inside (but not celestial or fiend). It is almost like the air from that chamber is higher pressure, with a faint mirage shimmer to it.

Jack frowns. “ I don’t like how those sounds stopped suddenly. Give me a second.” Jack beats his drums, and a bright light fills the room, not quite touching the party.
(Faerie Fire. Dex save or be visibl, and we have a advantage on attacks)
(OOC: Fast, decisive action by Jack. Hmmm.... 147 )
Jack prepares to cast his spell, then pokes his head around the corner of the entrance wall (to see the spot he wants to put the spell). Neither the creature nor Jack are surprised at being almost face-to-face (14). Jack casts the Faerie Fire in the 20' cube in front of him, right on top of the creature (7). (The party will have Advantage on attack rolls vs. the glowing creature until the spell ends.)
Five feet away from Jack is what looks like a walking toad. (Link for image.) That sounds comical, except the creature is utterly terrifying. It is 8' tall, despite being hunched over, has red warty leathery skin, a mouth full of uneven fangs, and dagger-like nails on its claws. The air (and ground!!) seem to warp and flow around it.
With Jack's spell, it is now glowing blue. (Now it is like a waking nightmare. Imagine that you are wearing the cheap 3D glasses, with one eye covered with a blue filter and the other a red filter.)
All party members: roll for initiative. (If you want to try to identify it, add an Arcana check.)
