And by the way, am I the only one noticing that we have like ZERO coordination as a party? We seriously need to find a way to start working on the same page, or we're all gonna get picked off one by one and die lol
What do we want to do to get better organized? I have to admit this is my first PBP game. So far everyone seems active & engaged. That's a pretty good start in my limited experience.
I'm not an expert on PbP (only been in a few) and I can only speak from personal experience and not the DMs expectations. But I'm more use to slower, more detailed and story driven campaigns. I'm not trying to criticize our group, but we have entered a town, killed some fishermen, visited a shipwreck, and have constantly had people jumping from scene to scene with such a sudden transition. In some of my other games, we were 4 real days into the story but didn't even finish the initial tavern introductions.
All that to be said, I'm not against us slowing down this campfire night and actually get some formal charatcha introductions and building a purpose for this group instead of just jumping from place to place.
And other things I've learned, and am still working on, is sharing the attention. While it's easier to share face time at a table, it take alot of restraint to not interject and turn the attention onto my player and instead let the party and story line progress.
Exhibit A: Leo and Conrad are technically walking back to the town to get supplies and my horse. It wouldn't make sense for me to butt into y'all's campfire conversation. I need to wait patiently until the DM let's me know I've made it back to Byting, or if I need to roll or do something else. Which may take a day or so in real time. (And that's not anything toward you DM, I'm sure you want to resolve things in a certain order and are tracking everything.)
I will play the PBP newbie card. If I jump around too much or move to fast, just call me out on it. You will not hurt my feelings. I'm used to playing in person with a group that played together through high school, college, & our early adult years until life broke up the group.
Same here @Phalse_One, I had a party made of closely-knit friends that started last year. The game collapsed because the DM decided to pit us up against a bunch of Succubi (Succubus'? Whatever the plural is) and caused us to completely backstab each other. We each got completely picked off because we were under their control and ended up getting slaughtered by our own teammates. Some of the party members got pissed at the DM, DM told them to screw off and the whole campaign just fell apart afterwards because 3 of the 4 members left. I only stayed because it was my own fault I got killed.

And yet I would feel inadequate to call you out because I've only been playing for under a year and have never played IRL and only on PbP. On of my friends that has done both once told me this: there is no rush in PbP. You don't have a 3-5 hour session where you need to cram two battles and plot twist in one night. Take your time to craft a good post that is detailed about your characters actions, thoughts, words, etc. More or less declare your intentions, throw out some possible dice rolls you might anticipate the DM asking for, and wait for the DM to resolve your action.
I guess for me it is more about concern in my being responsible for delaying the game moving forward. I check in often & post quickly. What do we as a group feel is a good response time? I can work on modifying my responses/expectations to meet the consensus of the group.
@FinFan I appreciate that information. Your friend made a great point. Thanks for sharing it.
ya recently got into it from hearing some funny stories and even though ive got irl friends that play it thay don't have the same inate lack of anything to do besides video games and dnd like I do lol

I DM'd our group from 1994 to 2004 back in 2nd edition. First time as a player. It's nice not having to control everything. Thanks for running the game, JJ!
I do my best to get on at least twice a day, but it seems like I'm barely keeping up with the group. The fight broke out, I rolled initiative and prepared to heal the wounded, and by the time I was able to check back in, they were already dead. I mean, it's better than having everyone post once every 3-4 days (I've had it happen before, it's awful), but I feel like I come back and we've added at least two thread pages since I last posted.
Also, PbP pro tip! Write your stuff in the third person! I often lose track of what character is saying what if the post says "I do this," which works great in face-to-face groups, but online, it's a bit harder to tell. And putting your character's voice in color, or even bolding it, gives a bit of a tone to how they say things. You don't have to mess with your character's "voice" (I didn't for my first three characters- you can see that in my retired characters post), but I think it adds a nice touch.

Lol, no problem my friend. I enjoy being player and DM, but I think I prefer DM slightly.
So what town would have been next should we go further NE

You are not familiar enough with the area to know that.

I'd be fine with that. Point is, we need to get on the same page, hopefully we utilize this chat more to do that.

I am with finfan. While I appreciate everybody's enthusiasm, I think we whould really take this a little slower, and stop fretting over small details.
