The 250 gold is just to measure the time it takes. Eldeth is teaching you for free. But you only accumulate 5 gold of progress for each 8 hours of instruction.
Rodolfo thinks for a bit, "I don't know yet, but I'm working towards it."
Noticing the aggression he adds, "Until that I do have an idea that might make the sleep more peaceful though. Lets look for a cavern with a high ceiling when we start to set up for camp today."
(The next time the party sets up for a long rest he will cast Rope Trick and send Derendil (and others who wish) to sleep in the extradimensional space)
Rope Trick lasts 1 hour, then anything in it falls 60 feet to the ground when the spell ends. (It's pretty dumb that it lasts 1 hour...)
Ah, damn, you are right. I kept thinking of the tiny hut all this time. Oh well, still going to do it, but go in there with Derendil to speak with him if there is a difference in his perception of voices in his head or whatnot.
Rodolfo would ask someone to join who who didn't take part in the last confrontation. Also, would Stool be needed for conversing? Then whoever is taking care of him. Maybe Beegred, the old blind guy and Stool.
Ok, the mechanics of Rope Trick say that the entrance to this other dimension is 60 feet at the top of a dangling rope. I've been debating if I should make people roll athletic checks to even be able to climb a 60 foot vertical rope. I'm still on the fence about that and I'll look to see what the rules for climbing say... BUT! Stool doesn't have any arms. He can't climb. If he is brought along, someone has to carry him while climbing the rope. That will be an athletics check for sure.
It might be open to interpretation, but I think "up to 60ft long" means it's between 1 and 60 feet long, not that it's directed upwards and is 60 feet long. The directionality is handled in the next sentence. So Rodolfo would actually cut a length of rope 3ft long and use that for the spell.

That is true. I did not register the "up to" part of the length requirement.
So, until Beegred (or others) confirm they are joining you in the extradimensional space, this will be continued when our american friends finish celebrating their 4th of july holiday.
Beegred said he would back up Rodolfo in his attempts to redeem Derendil. As long as he isn't asked to let Derendil rip him apart, assume Beegred will do whatever Rodolfo suggests.

I'm going to assume that everyone gets spored by Stool prior to this experiment, so there's no need for him to go in. So it's Rodolfo, Beegred and Derendil. What is the marching order (who goes in first and last)?
Krizz certainly won't think this is a great idea - Rodolfo being locked away with Derendil and since the gnome is the closest thing he has to a friend out here so far he will offer to stand guard inside just in case Derendil needs to be reminded of what happens when he tries to attack party members.
Have Beedgred go second, and Derendil last. (With Krizz and Eldeth watching from outside the Rope Trick, to make sure Derendil behaves.)

@ Rodolfo: I do understand your questions and what information you are trying to pull out of Derendil. I am replying the way I am because of Derendil, not because I don't understand your intent.
Summer is a slow time for PBP because people are on vacations and away from internet connections. Being absent for RL is OK, just please advise in advance if you can.
That being said, I will be out of town from evening of Aug. 7 to Aug 12. I should be back to posting Aug 13.
In the meantime, we'll advance this story as much as you all post.

Yes, 60/5 = 16 days.

yeah - good for maybe a short rest - but that's about it

Do you go into the extra dimensional space alone with him?
Oh, that's a very specific question :)
Rodolfo would ask someone to join who who didn't take part in the last confrontation. Also, would Stool be needed for conversing? Then whoever is taking care of him. Maybe Beegred, the old blind guy and Stool.

Also just a heads up for the non Americans - national holiday today - so some of us may not be back around until Monday.

Rodolfo would go in first, peek his head out again and reach his hand out to help others in.
Krizz certainly won't think this is a great idea - Rodolfo being locked away with Derendil and since the gnome is the closest thing he has to a friend out here so far he will offer to stand guard inside just in case Derendil needs to be reminded of what happens when he tries to attack party members.
