With no spells that can reach the Grick from 100 feet away (or even 75 after moving), Narstin simply dashes after the others, hoping not to be left too far behind.
(25 from movement + 25 from dash, leaves narstin 50 feet behind)
Complication roll for Jimjar: 17
(Yay for no complication)
It was 100 feet behind before the Grick Alpha moved 55 feet. So now you're 105 feet behind.
(Is that right? The grick moved 55 feet in post #1759, then the next post, #1760 is the one that had the current standing that said I was 100 feet behind him.)
But I think I added the Grick Alpha movement to post 1759 after making post 1760. Not sure why I did it that way.
Post 1760 should be:
Skameros (lead): 140 feet behind.
Derendil: 150 feet behind.
Eldeth: 160 feet behind.
Beegred: 150 feet behind.
Rodolfo: 165 feet behind.
Narstin: 155 feet behind.
Jimjar: 150 feet behind.
You can see in post 1768 you move 50 feet, putting you behind by 105 feet. Then in post 1771, the Grick Alpha moves again for 60 feet, leaving you behind at 165 feet.
Complication for Rodolfo: 14. He will cast Longstrider on only himself (just for the sake of simplicity), increasing his movement speed to 35. He will then move and bonus action dash for a total of 70 feet, putting him 163 - 70 = 93 feet behind the monster. He has now used 2 out of 4 dashes before exhaustion rolls.
Rodolfo casts Longstrider on himself then moves and bonus action moves 70 feet, now 93 feet behind the Grick Alpha.
Complication roll for Narstin: 19
Narstin moves and dashes 50 feet, placing him behind 176 feet.
Complication roll for Jimjar: 7
DC 10 DEX saving throw for Jimjar: 8
Jimjar falls 4*5 feet and falls prone and suffers 2 bludgeoning damage. (Already applied to sheet.)
Jimjar stands up and finishes his movement and dash, managing 30 feet. He is now 200 feet behind.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Complication roll for Skameros: 16
Skameros moves and dashes 60 feet. No change (still 80 feet).
Complication roll for Derendil: 5
DC 10 DEX Acrobatics check: 17
Derendil moves and dashes 60 feet. No change (still 90 feet).
Complication roll for Eldeth: 14
DC 10 DEX saving throw: 12 d100: 37
Eldeth falls prone, and a Gray Ooze drops from the canopy of the mushrooms above. Knowing Oozes are slow, Eldeth chooses to outrun it. She stands up and continues her movement and dashes (45 feet). She will end her turn 115 feet behind the Grick Alpha.
Opportunity Attack: 12 Damage: 15
The gray ooze misses. Complication roll for rats: 11
The rats catch up to Eldeth. She will have to use her movement and turn next round to kill the rats.
Complication roll for Ooze: 11
DC 10 STR (Athletics): 16
The Ooze moves 20 feet, is now 25 feet behind Eldeth.
Complication roll for Beegred: 15
Beegred moves 50 feet and falls behind to 205 feet.
Rodolfo complication roll: 9. DC10 constitution saving throw to avoid becoming blind - 21. He will move 35 feet to be 108 - 35 = 73 feet away and then bonus action dash another 15 feet to be within 60 feet of it. And then uses Wand of Viscid Globs - ranged attack roll: 10. He will move 5 feet back and end his turn there. DC 10 constitution check at the end of turn to avoid getting a level of exhaustion: 6.
Skameros stays on his feet and moves + dash. No change. 80 feet behind. (4/5 dash)
Derendil smashes his way through a brawl. Moves + dash. No change. 90 feet behind. (4/6 dash)
Eldeth stays put to kill the rats. 175 feet behind. (3/4 dash)
Beegred moves and dashes. 215 feet behind. (3/6 dash)
Rodolfo moves and bonus action dashes. He then uses Wand of Viscid Globs and misses. Rolls for exhaustion and fails. 1 level of exhaustion. Backs up 5 feet and is now 65 feet behind.
Narstin smashes through yet another brawl. Moves + dash. 195 feet behind. (4/6 dash)
Jimjar moves and dashes. 260 feet behind. (4/5 dash).
Derendil smashes his way through yet another brawl. Moves + dash. No change. 90 feet behind. (5/6 dash)
Eldeth moves and dashes. 175 feet behind. (4/4 dash)
Ooze moves and dashes. 45 feet behind Eldeth. (2/6 dash)
Beegred moves and dashes. 225 feet behind. (4/6 dash)
Rodolfo moves and bonus action dashes. He then uses Wand of Viscid Globs and misses. Rolls for exhaustion and fails. 2 levels of exhaustion. Backs up 5 feet and is now 65 feet behind. At two levels of exhaustion, movement cost doubles!
Narstin runs off a small precipice and lands prone 15 feet below. Stands up, moves + dash. 218 feet behind. (5/6 dash)
Jimjar tries to avoid a brawl but fails. Moves and dashes. 300 feet behind. (5/5 dash).
At this point, it is up to you to decide to drop this chase. Rodolfo was your best bet, but he has 2 levels of exhaustion and now only moves 35 feet with move+bonus action Dash and he would be 125 feet behind after the Grick Alpha moves on its turn.
Agree to fail the chase? Recover and decide to proceed with the hunt or not?
Skameros catches up with an exhausted Rodolfo and stops "Well played!" and pats the gnome on his back "most can't outrun Skameros...that a neat trick." and he'll collapse in a heap on the ground next to him and await the others.
Jimjar can't do much other than dash as well, but with a total distance covered of 40 feet, Jimjar falls behind. (110 feet now)
Rolling complication for Grick Alpha: 7
Grick Alpha DC 15 STR (Athletics) check: 18
The Grick Alpha smashes through two creatures battling each other and continues on, covering 60 feet of distance.
Stealth check (at disadvantage because of Hunter's Mark): 6
Current standing in chase round 2 (Grick Alpha: 2 dashes):
Complication roll for Skameros: 2
(DC 10 Athletics or Acrobatics check. On a fail you lose 20 feet of movement.)
(Is that right? The grick moved 55 feet in post #1759, then the next post, #1760 is the one that had the current standing that said I was 100 feet behind him.)
Yeah, I confused everyone.
In post 1759 the chase starts and the Grick moves 55 feet.
In post 1760 I list the distances at round 1.
But I think I added the Grick Alpha movement to post 1759 after making post 1760. Not sure why I did it that way.

Agree to fail the chase? Recover and decide to proceed with the hunt or not?
Rodolfo gives up. He has never pushed himself so hard. He starts to move back slowly towards others.
Skameros catches up with an exhausted Rodolfo and stops "Well played!" and pats the gnome on his back "most can't outrun Skameros...that a neat trick." and he'll collapse in a heap on the ground next to him and await the others.
Skameros - Bugbear Barbarian - Out of the Abyss - By Kerrec
Follow your Arrow where it Points - Tabaxi Monk - Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus (by Pokepaladdy)
Citron Pumpkinfoam - Fairy Monk - Project Point: Team Longsword
After regrouping, the party takes a short rest, allowing Rodolfo to recover from his sprint. Beegred's Hunter's Mark drops.
Once feeling better, the party sets out following the obvious path the Grick Alpha tore through the fungi forest.
