Before he heads out with Rock, the Herr Doktor Professor asks if any of the tavern patrons can serve as lookouts on the streets around the inn. If they see the Redbrands on the move, they can send word to the innkeep so that the bandits don't catch the party by surprise.
All of the men and even one of the women gladly step up to patrol the streets of Phandalin. Gruxx, Mirna, and the kids are called inside, and there is a mixture of surprise and anger as the body of Thel is brought inside. Toblen moves around the end of the bar and steps forward, his eyes on Thel. "It's good you've found him, Mirna," he says quietly. He blinks and then looks around at the party members present. "You can't bring him in here. He needs to be buried. I'm sorry." In the confines of the common room, the smell of the decaying body begins to turn a few noses.
"Daran appears to be a priest of some sort," Herr Doktor responds. "He should be able to see to it that Thel receives the proper funeral rites."
"Daran?" Toblen replies not unkindly. "A priest? Daran's a farmer. If you want a priest, you should see Sister Garaele at the Shrine of Luck."
Toblen tells the team that Sister Garaele can be found at the Shrine of Luck, which is directly west of the Stonehill Inn. Gruxx carries the body of Thel back outside and heads west. Mirna, Nilsa and Nars follow along silently in the barbarian's wake. As they approach, the team remembers seeing this strange structure when they first arrived in Phandalin. It almost looks like the ruins of some kind of stone tower, though closer inspection tells them the stones have been put here rather crudely, and were most likely transplanted from other ruins around town. It is a semi-circle of stone stacked about eight feet high at the back and stair stepping down each side with no roof. As they get closer, they see a small alter in the center with a short female elf sitting in a wooden chair to one side. At the sound of their footsteps, the elf looks up from the book in her lap. When it is clear the party is headed her way, she puts the book away and stands, giving a pleasant smile. As her eyes fall on the body of Thel, her smile is replaced by a look of pain and sadness. Noticing the woman and her children as they step around Gruxx, the sister says, "Mirna! Oh, you're safe! Thanks be to Tymora! I was worried the Redbrands had killed you as well."
"These brave men rescued us," Mirna responds, putting arms around both of her children. "And they found Thel's body. Can you help us lay him to rest?" she asks.
"Yes, of course," Garaele replies. "Have you dug a grave?"
Mirna looks at the party and back at the sister. "Well, no. We've just come from the old manor house."
"Well, a grave must be dug before we can lay him to rest," the elf replies.
Several speak up then about fearing retribution by the Redbrands and wanting to get Mirna and her children to safety as quickly as possible.
Garaele nods. "I understand. What I can do, then, is stop the process of decomposition until it's safe to lay him in the ground." She motions to the alter. "Please lay him here."
Gruxx steps forward and gently lays the body of Thel upon the alter. The corpse's legs hang over the edge at the knees, but the surface does an adequate job.
Sister Garaele walks around the semi circle and pulls a couple things out of some nooks built into the stonework. She begins a slightly melodic chant in Elvish. The magic in the words makes them hard to remember, but the elves and half-elf in the party smile in spite of themselves while listening to the verse. At the end, she places a copper coin over both of Thel's eyes and sprinkles something from between her fingertips over the corpse's chest. Stepping back in front of the party, she smiles. "He will remain as he is now for a tenday. You need to find the time to dig a grave before then."
"Thank you," Mirna says, clasping one of the elf's hands in her own.
The party bids Sister Garaele farewell, promising to retrieve the body as soon as possible, and head back to the inn. As they are about to enter, four townsfolk step out and give Ian and Herr Doktor nods. They tell the two they'll be patrolling the streets and then tell Mirna to not worry before marching off in pairs in opposite directions.
As stated earlier, Ian will escort Mirna upstairs to his room, and keep watch for a few hours while she rests.
To Mirna You have had quite the ordeal. Take some time to rest and wrap your mind around your new normal. I will be right outside this door if you need anything....I am sorry for your loss.
Ian nods to her, grabs a chair, and exits the room.
OOC, not knowing the layout of the upstairs, I will say that Ian is sitting just outside the door, but positioned in a way that he can keep an eye on the stairs. He has a dagger in each hand.
Mirna, Nilsa and Nars allow themselves to be led to Ian's room and locked inside. Ian stands guard in the hallway.
When Glynquinal asks Toblen about a bath, the man smiles at the elf. "Of course. Did you not notice the tub in the washroom?" When Glynquinal investigates, he finds a wood wash barrel about four foot in diameter and two feet deep on one end of the washroom. It looks clean and well tended. A small stool is available if you'd rather sit on it than the bottom of the barrel. A pitcher sits beside the barrel, which is clearly used to move water from the pipes in the wall by the sink over to the tub. The tub does not have its own pipes.
Happy to have a chance to clean up Glynquinal takes the tie to fill the tub. Removing his studded leather armor, and setting his gear next to the tub, he climbs in. Being cautious, he leaves a pair of daggers in reach on the back side of the tub, and leans his swords against the back of it as well.
Assuming his bath goes uninterrupted...Glynquinal will don his gear again, and go back to his room to sleep for the night, locking the door behind him, and putting on his bell alarm.
OOC - I think GLyn said earlier he would take second watch in the night. If he is still good with that, then sure, we get our rest and keep watch, and I am good with skipping to morning.
Rock will take the body to Drairn with HDP
Before he heads out with Rock, the Herr Doktor Professor asks if any of the tavern patrons can serve as lookouts on the streets around the inn. If they see the Redbrands on the move, they can send word to the innkeep so that the bandits don't catch the party by surprise.
Glynquinal having decided the opportunity is good for a hot bath goes down stairs to make inquiries on getting that set up.
All of the men and even one of the women gladly step up to patrol the streets of Phandalin. Gruxx, Mirna, and the kids are called inside, and there is a mixture of surprise and anger as the body of Thel is brought inside. "Daran?" Toblen replies not unkindly. "A priest? Daran's a farmer. If you want a priest, you should see Sister Garaele at the Shrine of Luck."
“The burial rites must be honored.” Gruxx states.
”Let us find this Sister.”
OOC Note:
Just to make sure I am caught up on who is where and doing what:
Ian is standing guard over Mirna and her children in his room so they can get some rest
Rock, Gruxx, and HDP have taken the body of Thel to find Sister Garaele at the Shrine of Luck
The men of the town (and one woman) have agreen to keep a lookout on the streets of Phandalin for redbrands and send word when they find some
...and Glynquenal has rested, checked on his trunk, and is now pursuing a hot bath. (Glyn, I love your character development!)
Did I miss anything?
DDP, what time of day would you say it is now?

OOC: It is mid afternoon.
Rock will go to his room and rest
As stated earlier, Ian will escort Mirna upstairs to his room, and keep watch for a few hours while she rests.
To Mirna You have had quite the ordeal. Take some time to rest and wrap your mind around your new normal. I will be right outside this door if you need anything....I am sorry for your loss.

OOC, not knowing the layout of the upstairs, I will say that Ian is sitting just outside the door, but positioned in a way that he can keep an eye on the stairs. He has a dagger in each hand.
Glynquinal will wait until Toblen has a moment and then inquire whether there are facilities for a hot bath in the building.
Mirna, Nilsa and Nars allow themselves to be led to Ian's room and locked inside. Ian stands guard in the hallway.
When Glynquinal asks Toblen about a bath, the man smiles at the elf. "Of course. Did you not notice the tub in the washroom?" The Herr Doktor Professor will also retire to his room to rest and freshen up.
Gruxx is too tired to bathe before rest. He will go and finally pass out to wake and bathe in the morning.
Assuming his bath goes uninterrupted...Glynquinal will don his gear again, and go back to his room to sleep for the night, locking the door behind him, and putting on his bell alarm.
OOC: Are we "skipping" to the next morning?
OOC I think we want you to say we did the long rest
OOC - I think GLyn said earlier he would take second watch in the night. If he is still good with that, then sure, we get our rest and keep watch, and I am good with skipping to morning.
Rock will take 3rd watch
Glynquinal will gladly take the second watch, and is looking forward to a long rest if possible.
OOC: Does the night pass uneventfully? Only one of us us knows.
