Welcome to Ravnica, the city of guilds. Where there was once war among the ten factions, there is now a precarious peace among them as they maintain their presence in the city as guilds. Now each one having a role in the city, whether it be enforcing the law, maintaining the infrastructure, letting your creativity run free, or manage secrets. Each guild has a purpose and allow for almost all citizens to advance in their ranks. Or you can go guildless, be free of the guild politics and let yourself be employed by them for zinos or other treasure. Regardless, you will be a new player in the guild's schemes, machinations, or plans for the Tenth district. It is up to you to reap the riches, take advantage of secrets, or succeed a guildmaster.
(Hi there, the setting for this campaign is Ravnica, a Magic: The Gathering setting which is oddly very detailed. It's deep lore is a good thing as it makes it very easily translated to DnD terms. It will be a forever recruiting campaign as each new player will be a new recruit to each guild or a guildless adventurer, selling their sword or magic. Along with each character shall have renown, responsible for advancing in the guild ranks. Guildless will also have that, showing their skill as mercenaries and trustworthiness. Below will be a brief summary of the world and their guilds (From the source book). And at the bottom will be the character application.)
More than ten thousand years ago, a war tore across the world of Ravnica. Ten armies battled for control of the world in a conflict that ended with the creation of a magical contract of immense power known as the Guildpact. The leaders of each of the ten armies — ancient beings known as paruns — were the signatories to the Guildpact, and they became the first guildmasters of Ravnica.
The text of the Guildpact spelled out specific roles for each guild within the infrastructure of Ravnica, allowing the city to grow while the guilds coexisted in relative peace. But the true power of the Guildpact was the strength of its magically binding force, which absolutely prevented large-scale violence among the guilds.
For ten millennia, the city grew and flourished under this structure as the guilds evolved into unique and powerful forces, often venturing far from their original purpose.
The signing of the Guildpact marked the beginning of the modern Ravnican calendar. Years prior to that pivotal event are denoted as “Al Concordant,” or AC, and counted backward from 1 AC. Years after the signing are “Zal Concordant,” ZC. The current date is 10,076 ZC, usually referred to as ’76.

BorosLegion: Led by the angel Aurelia, the Boros Legion pursues the cause of justice, not merely law enforcement. Boros serves as Ravnica’s standing army. Boros Legion Thread
House Dimir:House Dimir is in the business of information, operating an espionage organization behind a facade of messengers, investigators, and archivists. Its enigmatic leader, Lazav, wears many faces. House Dimir Thread

CultofRakdos: The demonic Cult of Rakdos is the jester in Ravnica’s culture, using satire and performance to skewer the powerful and embolden the weak. But it is a cruel and bloodthirsty jester, in the manner of its demonic leader, and it supplements parody and levity with blood and fire. Cult of Rakdos
SelesnyaConclave: The Selesnya Conclave is led by Trostani, three dryads who are fused together with one another and with Mat’Selesnya, a manifestation of the soul of the world. The guild seeks to bring nature and the city into balance. Selesnya Conclave Thread

Simic Combine Thread
Races in Ravnica:
Humans, They're everywhere and some of the most adaptable among all races. They're prominent in every guild, whether it be recruits, sergeants, or spies.
Elves, all three common subraces are there. With the exception of the wood elves (Silhana) mostly belong to the Selesnya, dark elves (Devkarin) to the Golgari, and high elves, lost original tribal name, to the Simic
Half-elves, for all three common elves.
Centuar, Half man, half horse. In both the nature loving Selesnya or the savage clans of Gruul.
Goblin, found in guilds as scouts or street gangs in the Tenth district. Their green or red skins are a common sight all over the city.
Loxodon, giant humanoids elephants, known for their serene calmness and stonework. Not only known for their work in the Selesnya, there are also Loxodons active in Azorius or Orzhov.
Minotaur, large chested humanoids with distinctive head of a bull and their hooves. Known for their power and tactics, both on and off the battlefields for the Boros or the Gruul
Simic Hybrid, a creation or experiment of the Simic Combine. Each one being unique as they all have varying mutations courtesy of the Simic. Though there is no need to stay with the Combine but leaving them will have them consider that Hybrid a deserter. And the possibility of the new guild not fully accepting them in fear of being a Simic spy.
Vedalkin, quite similiar to humans with the exception of their hairless, blue, skin. Known for cool rationality and curiosity, they find themselves at home with the Azorius, Simic, and less likely Izzet
Viashino, (Basically lizardfolk) fiercely emotional and strongly violent sort of lizard humanoids. They put their fervor to use among the Gruul, Boros, or their destructive taste in the Izzet.

If I were to actually stat block him, he'd probably be stronger than three tarrasques. So any applications involving him will be denied, a brother/sister, a cousin, a friend, all will be denied. Simply too powerful, he's walking through planes, that already says how powerful he is. Anymore questions not regarding Jace, please ask in this thread.)
And to say why the House Dimir have no thread is because of their feature, along with the reason why all applications will be in PMs. This thread will now formally be for questions of the OOC kind and regarding the setting of the campaign. Any adventures from any of it's sub threads will be held in its own thread.
It will be after Dragon's Maze but Nicol Bolas won't be terrorizing Ravnica any time soon. And unfortunately no, since this will be an ever growing campaign and campaign's having a limit of 12 active players will stop me from doing content sharing with everyone in all the campaigns for this thread.
Shame because then I'm locked into basic D&D Beyond stuff. I'll see what I can do what that. Guild background features can just be written in, it's just the race+class that needs to be rethought a bit.
The Loxodon Evangel, Throom, slowly lumbers his way towards a centuar, placing his large hand upon his shoulder, "Artexi, from the power gifted to me by the voda, I welcome you into this vernadi. Not as a lesser, but as an initiate, as we all have our roles heres, all equally important. And I will be help you find yours in our community. For we should all strive to cooperate together and thrive in peace." He lifts his hand off Artexi's shoulder, and spreads his arms out before him, "Welcome Artexi, to the Selesnya Conclave, and thank you for joining us."
The Minister shuffles his papers before Gallias, his hardened face silently scanning through them. You sit in a small office of the arrester station you were sent to report to. He finally breaths as he sets down the papers, running a hand through his white hair, "Congratulations recruit, for passing the academy. You've been selected to join my arresters as a Precognitive Mage, which is primarily for taking action to prevent crimes. We may also use your talents to deduce or find evidence on either victim or perpetrators. As you've said in your reasons for joining, I'll allow you to join with the arresters for their patrols or raids. Welcome Gallias, to the Azorius Senate, we'll keep the order in this city." The minister of Apprehension offers a hand.
"But he is not alone in this endeavor, for joining him today is also one of ours. Thwuut has been gifted with the power to heal others. She will no doubt bring kindness and strength to those that need it, whether it be a wounded animal or one of our votaries. Regardless, these two will be a welcome addition to the vernadi." He gestures to the Loxodon, Thwuut. The crowd behind him claps, with a dryad at the top, the voda, smiling at the new additions to her vernadi. As the crowd disperses, Throom ushers you both aside, "I'd like to ask for both of you for your assistance in something, please. It concerns with the vernadi."
“Of course, it is an honor to be a part of the Conclave.”
The centaur stands just under 7 ft tall. The horse portion of his body is a dark grey, matching the long hair on his head. Atrexi has water blue eyes and is fair skinned.
“Anything that I can do to help. What is it Throom?”
Thwuut, a Loxodon that stands around seven and a half feet tall and garbed in a white robe happily lumbers around within the Selesnyan grounds. "Greetings, Throom, what can I be of assistance with today?" She says with a slightly melodic tone, adjusting a flower placed beside her ear with her trunk.
'Thank you, Minister.' Gallias replies as he briefly but firmly shakes the hand offered to him. 'I swear to uphold Ravnican law and to do just by its citizens.'The Vedalken had dressed up for the occasion. His blue skin contrasted nicely with the white gleam of his scale mail, buffed to shine of course, which comprised the blue and white colour scheme the Azorius Senate was so fond of. If the colours alone weren't enough, a shield was slung across his back with the guild symbol proudly displayed in the middle, perfectly measured so the shield is completely symmetrical. Gallias especially liked it: it was neat and orderly, like the world should be. He caught himself smiling ever so briefly before molding his face back to that of a solemn and duty-bound Azorius official. 'I am at your disposal, sir. When and where do we begin?'
Throom looks around for a short while before whispering, "...I fear that the vernadi is in a spot of trouble. The spiders near here of late have gotten a bit more aggressive. We haven't done anything to provoke them and gave their grounds a wide berth. Regardless, they've poisoned one of ours who was still on our grounds. Something in their grounds or nest might be stirring them to find new grounds. I'd like you both to accompany me as we'll try to discern what's causing their aggression."
The Minister nods, "Well precognitive mages are a special sort. While you're not technically lawmages, you're not as strong as an arrester. You'll mostly be a support for squads. Speaking of squads, you'll be assigned to Deputy of Acquisitions' squad. Your squadmates being two arresters and a lawmage. The Deputy's squad is on break but their scheduled for a patrol soon. I recommend introducing yourself to them and they should be in the break room. That will be all, recruit, you are dismissed, have a good day." The minister gives you a nod as he starts to go through files.
A human with lavish robes and decorated with jewelry takes the seat across from the goblin. Who is already small but seemed diminutive in the Grand Balisica, the wide and looming spaces hanging above as the center piece is that of the Orzhov's Ghost Syndicate statue. Glaringly huge and makes you feel small in their presence. The human before the goblin gives a practiced smile, as she clears her throat, "Thank you for meeting with me, Mr. Goldblood. Your patron has said wonderful things about you, things that may be more useful to the Syndicate than just himself. Now, I'd like to offer you a position among us. And before you say anything, remember, we've took you in when you were abandoned. Teaching you our ways and how to cleanse oneself through penance. This is just another form of penance, to work and pay for our sins. I just want to give you a way to pay back for our generosity." The Ministrat says with fervor and passion, yet her expression doesn't change, practiced and observant.
"Of course, Throom." Thwuut nods her head solemnly. "It would be an honour to help our members in any way we can. Allow me a moment to collect my belongings should this diplomatic mission turn sour." She says, headed over to collect a greatclub amongst other things.
Crixim feels absolutely tiny in the presence of this human. He is dressed in the simply leathers of a laborer. His clothes are stained with dirt and excrement. Crixim puts his hand to his chest and gives a slight bow. "Your wealth flows both physically and through your generosity. I only wish to prove myself to the Syndicate. Your investment in me will return ten fold." He keeps his head bowed waiting for instruction. He has spent his life working as the equivalent of an indentured servant, so this is simply his natural response.
Gallias raised a hand to the side of his forehead. 'Yes, sir.' He replied as he gave a salute to the minister. When he lowered his hand, he made use of the motion to unnoticeably move a single stray black hair back in place before turning around and marching out the chamber in a manner befitting an officer of the law. Some might call it stiff and rigid but Gallias walked with the trained posture of many years but more importantly, he walked with purpose. With his helm tucked underneath his right arm, his dagger on his hip, a crossbow slung across his back and holding his shield in his left hand, Gallias made his way to the break room. He had already familiarised himself with the building's layout, as was proper protocol, so he arrived there relatively fast. Upon entering, he quickly scanned the room for the aforementioned arresters and lawmage. Spotting a group of three sitting together, he marched over to them.
'Greetings.'Gallias said as soon as he got within earshot. 'My name is Gallias and I have been assigned to the Deputy of Acquisitions' squad. Would that be you?' He twisted his lips into a smile, one he hoped showed enough friendly demeanour without looking too eager. He had practised this morning in front of the mirror until he believed he got it just right but, as he had learned during his training: 'no plan survives contact with the enemy.'
Throom bows his head, with a sincere smile, "Thank you for accompanying me, I do not wish to pry the votaries away from their post and believe this shall be an easy mission. I'm sure we won't be be in too much danger as long as we don't provoke the spiders. Yet it is just nature's way if we have to defend ourselves." Once you all are ready, Throom leads you both to the boundaries of the vernadi. As you approach, you can see the abandoned overgrown section of the city. Through the leaves you see things scuttle about in the dark canopy of the forest. Between some trees, you see large webs strung up between them, an intricate design of functionality and beauty. It is forest invoking fear and curiosity on what lies deeper in. "It is a wonderful sight, yes?" Throom says.
A minotaur stands tall in front of a young man, his armor practically gleaming with the red and white, with the Boros Fist emblazoned on the back. He paces around the man, examing him, his nostrils flare a few times as he does. He stands in front of him, the man's face meeting with the minotaur's chest. "Soldier," the minotaur's booming voice sounds out, "I am Sergeant Radolak, your CO.The commander sent you to this garrison, the captain assigned you to my squad. Now, I don't care what your story is. Don't care if your daddy is some captain or your mommy is a priest. All I want to know, is if you know what the Boros Legion stands for. If you know what the angels are here for and why we're the main military here in Ravnica." Before the man could speak, the minotaur shouts out, "Justice! Simple justice! Not the complicated and long ordeal that is Azorius, but simple justice. We do not condone the acts of wanton mayhem and destruction of the Rakdos or Gruul. The Boros Legion stops that and protects the innocent and defenseless. We're the wall between that chaos and the civilians, we're here to protect them at all costs. Do you understand, private Hormir?"
The group is seated at a table, two of them actually. A woman with pointed ears talk with an aged man while another man stands off to the side, interjecting every once in a while. As you approach the group, they stop their conversation, putting their attention onto you. As you finish, the man at the table gives a smile and a nod, "You'll be right, that'll be us. Name's Sullivan, I enjoy a good book every now and then and like to attend hearings too.", The man has his hair combed back, his hairline starting to gray. There are a few faded scars on his face and hands but wears a beaming smile. "Lady across from me is Beryl, she was the newest addition on the squad until you've joined." The wood elf from across the man gives a small wave and small smile as well. She has raven hair put up in a bun. Her most notable feature not being the lack of scars, but her piercing eyes. "Now the man with more gray in his hair is George. He's not much of a talker but is great at suppressing convicts and...convincing some culprits on their motives." Sullivan points to the man behind him. He is a bit skinny and with much grayer hair. He sips on a drink as he examines you for a moment before nodding. "Deputy said you're a precog, that right? Got any visions for us on the patrol coming soon? Would love to be prepared for anything unexpected."
