Kixarn keeps his Raven close, ready with spell and sling to support his group. Still trying to hover in the midst of the group, he keeps a bullet in the cup and a bag in hand.
“Can you tell me the difference between a witch and a wizard?" "Sure, a wizard is what they call you when they want to hire you, and a witch is what they call you when they're getting ready to run you out of town.” SunWolf replied ― Barbara Hambly, The Witches of Wenshar
After a long while of back-and-forth arguing, we come to a decision. With some help, Avan closes the big gate (right edge of I59-62) but he has nothing to offer to force it closed. He asks the party for rope, pitons, anything that could work. He takes the bits of wood covering the arrow slits and uses a cold iron sickle to fashion them into doorstops, hammering them into the gap under the door. If they're accessible, we could bend the hinges out of shape.
Bastion shakes his head as the others insist upon tackling the most dangerous part head on rather than take this methodically. "Very well, stand clear of the portcullis, on the other side if you cannot teleport."
After removing the spikes they had used to keep the portcullis from closing the last time the group was here, Bastion moves to where the mechanism for lifting the massive grate waited. Hefting his heavy adamantium blade, he begins to chop through the chains and smash up the machine itself for good measure.
Once done with that, he steps out and teleports to the other side of the now-closed portcullis, and pulls out a number of pitons. Passing some to anyone willing to help, he starts hammering some into the walls of this place angled to prevent anyone from lifting the portcullis even if they have the strength to lift it at all.
"There is no guarantee of course they won't be able to get through this, but it will slow them down, and we will probably hear them making the attempt. Now that that's done, I guess it's time to go march straight into an obvious trap, literally blindly."
The portcullis mechanism is wrecked with some effort but soon you hear it crash down. You wedge spikes into it making it nearly impossible to reopen it. Bastion teleports back through the portcullis and you head back to the stairs where the darkness is at. I will need to know who heads down first and then the order you descend.
Rivoril, will head out near the front as he only has "low-light"vision. Perhaps, second rank he will be checking/searching for traps/snares. Moving in a stealthier manner as much as possible. His composite short bow is ready for action.

Being third on the steps in the complete darkness you will not be able to see any or find any traps.
Bastion leads the group down the winding stairs. As he emerges from the darkness he can see just how rickety these circular stairs are. HE is about to say something when the weight of everyone on them gets to be too much and they crumble sending everyone falling to the floor below. Lucky for everyone the floor is covered in old bones and moss that break the fall so you all just end up a bit bruised and battered. You are all now in a large empty room not counting the larger pile of bones and broken stairs.
map is updated the color is the pile of bones and broken stairs. You can see a opening in the southeastern wall.
Bastion stands and brushes himself off, "No injuries? That was fortunate. We should have secured a rope before climbing down, perhaps we should correct that error before pressing on. Any ideas on how to do so?"
Katharina grimaces as she stands. " Well , that could have been worse I suppose. " She walks to the opening in the wall and concentrates as she tries to detect the presence of any undead nearby.
KIxarn shyly steps up and says "Uh, I think Korvo could get a rope up somewhere, flight. Or maybe a string first, then rope after? Someplace strong to loop around. then down, we tie slip knot." If accepted, he will have Korvo fly up with string or rope, loop it around something suitably strong and bring the end back down to the party.
OOC - light load carry capacity for a Raven is 1.5 lbs, so it would need to be just the end of the rope (10lbs for a whole 50' of hempen) or a long enough string. Unless he gets enlarged or something. Mage Hand may be needed.

Avan casts Light on an arrow and has a look around the room. "I never expected the stairs themselves to be rigged like that. If Korvo can't manage to find something to loop it around, I can transform and fly up myself.
"Now that we're down here, do we want the Protection from Evil spells cast? We will have to rush through these tunnels to make the most use of the magic. It's that, or let Rivoril go ahead and report back, but I have bad experiences with doing that myself. If we did it that way, would you need a light source Rivoril, or can someone get you a spell to see in the dark? We also have to agree if we get separated, do we rush to aid whoever got lost, or prepare a strike? Because I need over half a minute to prepare to be at my most effective and it will take the same time to cast all the Protection spells."
As we plan, Avan idly takes bones out of the pile and tries snapping all the bits he can. He doesn't want to be facing skeletons here later.
I pull out my lantern and pour oil into it. "It seems like a good time to use this. It is not a particularly bright light, but it is something." The light illuminates her very pale face and reflects off of her dark blue eyes.
Bastion nods, "If Korvo can manage, looping the Rope around one of the door hinges and feeding the other end to back down here should do the trick. He does not need to lift the whole rope up there either." Bastion fishes around for a pelvic bone, and feeds one end of his rope through the hole so that it can serve as a counterweight. Whipping the rope around underhanded, he flings the bone up towards the landing with the door. No doubt it will fall back down a few times, but he will repeat the attempt until it works.
"Buffing now is not likely our best bet, rushing to meet the vampires is likely to end poorly, due to traps or whatever else awaits, and we can easily get caught up in a fight with other creatures down here that expends our remaining time. Let's stick together, proceed slowly, and use Kat's senses along with our best judgment as to when we get close to our main opponents."
Kixarn talks Korvo through, in Abyssal, wrapping the rope around a suitable anchor point and back, the dark bird dragging the bone and threading it back to drop the end of the rope back to the group. Once that is completed to everyone's satisfaction, he mentions "My protection magic doesn't last long. Probably best for me to shield you and others once we know we have the vampires near. It stops the takeover, which I like more than arrows in my side."
