In a low voice, Eya let's the others know about what she sees in the left room, "Looks like an old barracks that hasn't been used in a long time. It's very dusty and looks stripped of most everything. There's a leak in the roof and mold everywhere. Do you want to investigate? It's dark in there, but I do have this lantern patch. This seems like your skillset, Respar. By the way, the right room has a large lock on the door. Can you try using those fancy lockpicks on it? If it's locked then perhaps it's some sort of armory."
I want to leave it to the group on whether or not to explore the "seemingly empty" barracks further. The lantern I have is a hooded lantern so it's somewhat stealthier than most lanterns.
By the way Respar, those lockpicks I gave you are Masterwork quality and give you +2 on top of your normal skill check.
The high elf leans casually against the wall next to the staircase, still inspecting the various spell components he just received. He contributes, sarcastically, "I'm sure this type of place makes you all nostalgic for your childhood homes, but my money says THIS might be the way out." At that he nods in the directions of the stares down, indicating a bit of urgency with the look in his eyes.
At Eya's invitation, Respar spends a few minutes poking through the lock, with a few words of encouragement from the tiefling. Eventually, the bolt snaps back, and the rogue opens the door. About half of the room is taken up by a large cistern, with rain collection pipes feeding in from the roof. Other pipes from the cistern appear to funnel elsewhere in the fortress, likely using gravity to feed the water to where it is needed.
Most of the rest of the space is occupied by several stacks of barrels and casks. It looks like storage for everything from pickles to cheap wine. A lot of it appears to be alcohol of one sort or another. A table on one side has writing utensils and what looks like a thick inventory/log book.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Eya suffers through the glares from High Grandmaster Aloro the Brave while she aids Respar with the lock. Once inside, she investigates the room for anything more interesting or valuable than all of the wonderful alcohol. "I'm going to need something to drink soon if I have to listen to Aloro for any longer. This rum smells good and spicy," she mumbles to herself as she sniffs one of the pony kegs. Eya also takes some time to quickly leaf through the inventory/log book for anything that might aid in their escape or any other key information. She doesn't spend a ton of time on it, however.
She fills two wineskins, one with the spicy rum and the other with fresh water.

As Eya checks out the room whose door he unlocked, Respar makes quick change to his current garb. He puts on a set of staff clothes, then guard uniform and leather armor on top of it. If they can move about unquestioned, fine. But if they are found out, he intends to eventually strip down out of the uniform and leather, hoping to blend in as staff at that point.
Jesla grins at the ogre . " Of course the tiger last will help out. You and I will clear a path out of here if we need to . That elf over there should go play with the guards downstairs . "
Jesla studies the surroundings and misses her cat form. She could see so well in the darkness as a tiger . Jesla considered it for a moment but realized that it might be needed to fight their way out. . The barbarian walks quietly close behind those in front, prepared to engage in combat of needed.
She grits her teeth as the elf speaks of the surroundings reminding them of their childhood. She scowls and responds. " Actually Lord Elf, this doesn't remind me of my childhood much. I spent my childhood on mountains and plains . I learned to fight at age 5 . My first memory of a town was when I participated in a raid on a weak southern town . They didn't put up much of a fight . Most of them were like you. " She grins at him and shakes her head.
Eya returns to the group, "I managed to get a couple of wineskins and fresh water. It should help us survive once we're out until we can make our southwest across the moors. I think it's about time we go downstairs."
"Yes, yes, well clearly you have proven me wrong with your tail of living like savages in the wild. It is no matter, you are strong and we share a common purpose, so let us proceed."
Kiven steps inside the previously locked room and takes but a second to inspect the wine and other supplies. He scoffs at the state of it all and mumbles something about "swill". The elf 'lord' sees the wineskins and the relatively fresh water and pauses. He looks at his own ragged attire and back at the water, sighing a bit. "It seems even I must get my hands dirty to reach the destiny that awaits me on the other side of....this." At that he fills two wineskins with the water and straps them over his shoulder. He heads out the door again to the stairs, ready to depart as soon as the others are.
With only a slight bang, Grumblejack flips over the table the guards had been sitting at. He wrenches one thick leg free and taps it against the stone wall.
Apparently satisfied with how sturdy it is, he carries it loosely in one hand as he follows the party.
The stairs down wind around for short distance before stopping at a door. It appears to be unlocked, and light can be seen streaming from underneath. The gap is large enough that it is simple enough to get down and peek underneath.
The room beyond is one that some of you may wish to forget. The place where you had been branded mere hours before.
Fire burning in a few sconces light the room, but there is no other sign of life
Eya peers under the door to get a good look, "The coast looks clear. Do you see any magical alarms on the door, Your Highness? Respar, do you think this door is trapped to alert the guards?"
---
Once Respar thinks he has confirmed that there aren't any traps, Eya opens the door and looks around for any signs of guards or items of interest.
Eya does not see any guards, or anything else of that sort. She does however, see an alarm trap on the lintel of the door she is at. Oddly enough, it looks like the alarm was already disabled. The bit of twine that opening the door tugs upon has been severed.
Including the door they are at, the room ahead of the party has six doors. Two in the northern wall, which lead to the stairs and the interrogation room. One of the eastern wall and Southern Wall respectively. And then two in the Western Wall.
At the first door Kiven answers "I see no magic here." "You may proceed."
Once in the larger room, however, Kiven does speak to Eya once more, this time whispering. "There is magic here, however." At that he stands with a palm up a foot from the northwest door, trying to use his arcane prowess to learn more of the magic behind this door.
OOC Using the 2nd and 3rd round aspects of Detect Magic to learn more about what is there.
Eya nods to Kiven and whispers, "Yes, we should check it out. It might be something useful or something that could help us...hopefully. In the meantime, Respar, can you quietly get closer to the Eastern door and listen closely? I hear some faint voices but can't make out what they're saying. You seem like the stealthiest one here."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Respar nods and does his best to make his way quietly to the door. As he listens, he also examines the door, looking at the lock and checking for obvious alarms.
Jesla walks on the balls of her feet as she expects trouble at any moment. She studies the sap in her hand curiously. What an odd little weapon. It is padded to avoid causing too much harm. While it had obvious uses dealing with prisoners she still shook her head . Typical of Southerners to want things softer. Such a weak people.
Gazing around the room more, she watches Respar at work. She couldn't help but respect his abilities at breaking out of jail. She was still waiting fur the Lord to do anything. Jesla speaks quietly to Kiven. " My Lord elf... Please feel free to do something . Anything at all .I'm beginning to wonder if you can. All is not lost however . At least Grumblejack can make up for your lack of .....value to our escape. "
The door before Respar doesn't appear to have a lock. Beyond it, he can hear two voices, one of them notably younger than the other. "I'm heading to the card game, you coming?" "We have parapet duty in half an hour." "Sod that, it is cold out there. I am staying in where it is warm, having a few drinks, and putting my coin to work. I feel lucky tonight." "We have a sacred duty here boy, and it doesn't involve shirking your patrols to go gambling and drinking. I wish Warden Richter was still around, he would never have allowed this kind of disgraceful Behavior." "Yeah I heard about that guy, supposed to be even stuffier than you old man. so why didn't you leave when the old guard left?" The others may have left when that thief Blackerly cut the payroll, but this prison is the most important thing I have done in my life, I will leave this post when I am ordered to do so, or this body becomes too tired to perform, not a day before." "Damn, that's depressing, now I really need a drink."
Kiven smirks and responds calmly to Jeslia, although in a condescending tone, of course. "Oh wildling, do not get upset just because you only understand pure brutality and not the finer things, such as knowledge of the arcane. For instance, I can tell you about any and all magic anywhere near us, such as that which lies behind this door. Do not worry, I am an understanding Lord and your efforts will still be rewarded at your current pace."
To Eya he whispers "I suppose we need to check this for mundane traps, yes?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Eya whispers back to Aloro, "Yes, we should. Plus I think the door is locked." Once Respar is back from eavesdropping, Eya asks him, "Can you unlock this one too? Prince Aloro can see something magical in there with his elf eyes. Be careful as it may also be trapped."
Respar returns and shares what he overheard with the others, then sets about opening the lock.
It does not take very long, detecting no traps, the rogue carefully opens the door to reveal and office area. A table on the right hand side is stacked with writing utensils, books, and papers. On the left is an unlocked door. Ahead is another locked door. The magic item earlier detected is through the latter.
Eya rifles through the papers and books on the desk, then scoffs as she informs the others, "This Sergeant Blackerly is real scum despite espousing all his holier-than-thou Mitran bullshit. He is skimming money off the top of the budget for himself and lying about how much he pays the guards to the government. Typical Mitran hypocrite, ha. Also, that card game you overheard them talking about Respar? It's definitely happening tonight according to this schedule." Eya takes a few of the most incriminating papers for evidence, folds them up, and stuffs them in her bonnet.
She then takes some time to assist Respar with the locked door.
