Adrasteia lies on the ground, still unconscious (successes: 1; failures: 0 -> Check your character sheet to see how we keep track of this).
Mokiakia, in turn, tries to follow Durnan's cue, and hurls a mote of fire towards the Troll. Her aim is a little off, and instead she hits one of the booths in the far north wall.
Following his own advice, Durnan grabs a candle this time instead of a lantern and approaches the Troll. Not wanting to risk the oil drying, Durnan will wait for his opportunity and touch the open flame directly to the Troll's skin. The oil quickly carries the flame over the creatures shoulders and back.
-> The Troll is now on fire, taking 8 fire damage (Troll - CMD: 63) .
Sim's arrow flies by the Troll without hitting it. This is her first missed shot, which is a bit frustrating.
Seeing Adrasteia on the floor unconscious, Jalester grabs a small vial hanging from his belt and force-feeds it to the cleric. Everyone recognizes this as a Potion of Healing (common variety), and it looks like Jalester has one more of these on his side. Adrasteia recovers 8 HP. She is still prone, but is awake and ready to continue fighting.
The Troll wails in pain as the fire continues to burn the oil on its back causing 5 fire damage. The creature's wounds do not look like they are healing any longer. This is likely the reason Durnan was so adamant in getting the creature aflame (Troll - CMD: 68).
As its moves desperately to put the flames out, the creatures lashes at nearby targets:
-> Bite (melee weapon attack) vs. Jalester: Attack: 8Damage: 10 piercing. The man manages to jump out of the way of the Troll's jaws (see reaction below).
-> Claw (melee weapon attack) vs. Durnan: Attack: 25 Damage: 13 slashing. The barkeep doesn't see the first swing coming (Durnan - CMD: 13).
-> Claw (melee weapon attack) vs. Durnan: Attack: 13Damage: 12 slashing. But manages to escape the second one.
Jalester's reaction: As he jumps aside, the captain takes the opportunity to stick the Troll with the pointy end of his sword...
-> Riposte (melee weapon reaction attack with a longsword) vs. Troll: Attack: 8Damage: 12 slashing. ... but the Troll's random movements are enough for it to avoid the thrust.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
I switch my daggers for my crossbow, light and aim for the Troll's neck Attack: 16 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll. piercing damage. Then, I duck hoping he won't see me.
(@Adrasteia: Don't forget to add your attack modifier to your attacks. With the mace, it'd be a +5, so instead of a 2 you got a 7 to hit. Unfortunately, that's still quite low.)
Adrasteia rises and immediately tries to repay the Troll for the forced rest, but being knocked down must have temporarily affected her balance as she swings wide of her mark.
Mokiakia, on the other hand, manages to hit the Troll with a crossbow bolt. It looks like she picked up a thing or two from her time with Sim. The Troll is more concerned about the fire on its back, but the bolt hurts nonetheless (Troll - CMD: 76).
Durnan will move to another table: "We have to keep the flame going until it is dead!" While he runs, he turns his back to the Troll, and the monster takes the opportunity (Troll's reaction):
-> Claw (melee weapon attack of opportunity) vs. Durnan: Attack: 19 Damage: 7 slashing. The slash gets the tavern owner's back but he does not flinch (Durnan - CMD: 20).
Durnan reaches the table and flings yet another lamp:
-> Lamp (ranged improvised weapon attack) vs. Troll: Attack: 20 Damage: 3 piercing. The lamp crashes successfully, and its flame helps keep those on the creature alight (Troll - CMD: 79).
(Sim is next, then Jalester. If attacking, Sim, don't forget your Sneak Attack damage, as both Adrasteia and Jalester are within 5 feet of the Troll.)
Noting Durnan's plea, and squirming a bit at my last miss, I notch an arrow, step forward and dip it quickly in the oil lamp on the nearest table to set it ablaze. "Let's try this again," I mutter as I let fly.
Sim dips her arrow and lets it fly. The arrowhead passes just inches from the Troll, who was completely unaware of the incoming threat.
Feeling that the abuse from the Troll is getting a bit dangerous, Jalester reaches for his second Potion of Healing, uncorks the vial, and pops it into his mouth, recovering 7 HP (Jalester - CMD: 33).
The Troll continues to wail at Durnan while the flames on its back and shoulders begin to get a bit smaller:
(@Adrasteia: You are forgetting your +5 attack modifier... That 4 should have been a 9.)
Adrasteia's focus seem to still be shaken from the earlier near-death experience. Her spell fizzles before she even manages to fully extend her arm.
From afar, Mokiakia hurls another mote of fire (Natural 20!) and hits the Troll right in the face. The creature struggles for a bit but once the flames subside, they reveal that the Troll's face has been melted off. He slowly slumps forward and falls face-first to the ground (Troll - CMD: 90->DEFEATED).
YOU ARE NOW OUT OF INITIATIVE ORDER. POST AS YOU WILL.
Durnan is not the bragging type, but over the years he has talked enough about his greatsword for you to put together that what he affectionately calls Grimvault is in actuality a Sword of Sharpness. You have once seen him cleave a dinner table in half with ease.
Adrasteia tries to search the Troll's body for anything of interest, but can only find a rag it uses as a loincloth. Its stench is overwhelming.
Durnan himself is the one that answers the cleric's inquiries: "This large well here is quite deep. It leads into a vast underground area known as the Undermountain, as I am sure you are aware, m'lady. Every so often we get a visitor like this Troll here. We were lucky the Stirges were feeding on it for some time by the looks of it. And don't get any ideas, m'lady. I highly advise you not to go down there. That Troll would be the least of your worries in a place like that."
Durnan then looks at each one of you, including Jalester, and says: "Thank you for your help. You all fought well." Jalester is breathing heavily in a corner.
Now that the Troll and the Stirges are dealt with, a figure pushes against the tide of patrons staying clear of the monster to greet the characters, lavishing praise on the victors for their bravery: “You be adventurers, am I right? I could use your help. Let’s find a table to talk, shall we?” You have all heard of this man before. He is known to most Waterdavians as a braggart and a notorious embellisher of facts. For all his faults, though, he is a soft-hearted sort who cares for nothing as much as his friends. At present, he is grievously concerned for the well-being of one of them. He begins his request with an air of charm and mystery, but it quickly devolves into tearful sincerity.
The figure who approached you strokes his mustache, adjusts his floppy hat, and tightens his scarf. “Volothamp Geddarm, chronicler, wizard, and celebrity, at your service. I trust you’ve noted the violence in our fair city these past tendays. I haven’t seen so much blood since my last visit to Baldur’s Gate! But now I fear I have misplaced a friend amid this odious malevolence. My friend’s name is Floon Blagmaar. He’s got more beauty than brains, and I worry he took a bad way home a couple nights ago and was kidnapped — or worse. If you agree to track him down with all due haste, I can offer you ten dragons apiece now, and I can give you each ten times that when you find Floon. May I prevail upon you in my hour of need?”

Volothamp Geddarm is a legendary traveler and storyteller, and is most famous for his many published guidebooks. I pour myself a big horn of ale and take a closer look at Durnan's sword. I want to run a history check on his sword. 23
I want to do an investigation check on the troll's body for anything of value. 21
I also want to question anyone left in the tavern about what just happened. Persuasion? 5
Perception maybe? 15
Mokiakia's history check:
