(@Wreck: That is unfortunate, but not wholly unexpected! And at the risk of burning to death on top of everything else, did the lantern break open when it dropped?)

(It didn't break but it didn't catch anything on fire either. I think when I initially described it I mentioned that it didn't seem to be giving off heat. I might have forgotten that part though. )
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Having no luck with the front door, Cinders heads back to where the sleeping children are, to make sure they are still all safe. Realising that Rustler is not there, he sighs and heads back upstairs to look for the inquisitive sibling.
Cinders makes his way upstairs and sees no sign of his brother. Making his way towards the end of the hallway, he hears some faint coughing from behind the beautifully engraved door. He can tell it sounds like it is coming from Rustler.
As the door swings open, Cinders sees the same sight as his brother. An old elf woman sleeping peacefully on a bed surrounded by nice furnature with an open windows blowing a curtain with a slight breeze. As he goes to move into the room, he notices a very faint shimmer a few feet in front of him. He does not see his brother but can hear a muffled cough that seems to be only a few feet in front of him.
Cinders peers hard into the room, trying to detect what may have caused the shimmer. There is a little light coming through the cracked open window as the curtains say in the breeze.. maybe that was it? The Kobold is unable to determine what caused the shimmer in front of him and sees no sign of his brother.
As he takes a couple steps into the room and whispers Rustlers name, no one responds. He is able to hear however the feignt sound of labored breathing that sounds like it could be coming from the kenku. You think it sounds like it should be coming from just a few feet in front of you but you do not see anything. You think the sounds are coming from behind where you saw the shimmer for a brief second but you don't see it now.
As the kobold creeps forward and extends his hand, his hand pushes against what he appears to be an illusionary curtain of sorts. The instant his claw pierces the vale, the room changes and the door slams shut behind him. The smell of rotting flesh fills the air and the the beautiful bed where the old woman was sleeping has been replaced with what you know is now the real reality. A rotting corpse lies on filthy sheets and the furnatrue around the room has been ransacked. At his feet, The kobold can see his kenku brother laying next to a lantern on the ground. He is sweating heavily and coughing in between labored breaths. As Cinders sees this, his own breathing becomes heavy as he begins choking on the wretched stinking air. A moment later Cinders collapses next to his brother.
(everyone let me know when they have finished leveling and taken their long rest. The next post i make SHOULD work to hopefully get you guys moving back together again)

(OOC you are asleep, not dead and the lantern door burst open and came into contact with the floor but the floor was not effected)

OOC: No problem. Never split the party! It's a mantra, but I sometimes forget to heed it.
(It was either that or leave a poor little bird girl to her fate, and further compound your idiot bugbear brothers errors. :P)

There is a little light coming through the cracked open window as the curtains say in the breeze.. maybe that was it? The Kobold is unable to determine what caused the shimmer in front of him and sees no sign of his brother.
Cinders carefully enters the room and whispers out Rustler's name.

Cinders continues to slowly creep forward, trying to find the source of the laboured breathing.
