"Whoops. Must have had too many drinks last night." Angie says while daintily wiping the corner of her mouth. She looks around herself perplexed by the sudden change of scenery. "Where are we and how did we get here?" she asks more out of curiosity than alarm.
“Ha! First time fer ya on the water love?” the man helming the boat asks, before replying “Why seems ta me this may be yer first time to Trudvang even!”
”Ma names Grisebo, this here craft yer losing yer stomach all over is mine. Maybe, lay off the drinks if ya can’t handle em’, eh lass? Ha!” Grisebo says as he adjusts the craft slightly to answer the shifting wind.
”Yer in the strait of Edjland, soon ta make landfall at Grim Village. Takes its name after Grim Sea which the strait is connected ta, it does. As fer how ya got here? How do I know? Beorn told ma pick up some travelers from Dain, bring em’ ta Grim Village. So that’s what I’m doin’. Storms brewin’ though, always do this time a year. Mind lending us a hand with the rowin’?” Grisebo says as he points to a set of oars near you.
Angie takes the Oars and does what she can to help propel the craft.
"I've been on water before, but I usually know how I got there. Mysteriously awakening on this boat, in what seems to be a foreign land has me a little discombobulated." Angie looks at her companions from the night before who look as clueless as she feels. She looks back at Grisebo and cheers up a bit. "Well at least our destination sounds delightful. Grim Village. Sounds beautiful. Any idea how long it should take us to get there? What's it like?"
Grisebo laughs again, “Whata ya from Mittland or somethin’? Sure are a funny group. Funny lookin and ask some funny questions. Ha! Almost there just around tha next bend. Grim Village be just below tha Grim Hills, due Southeast of Wildheart. ‘Tis a trade city, well used ta be. Times have been tough, since travelers be avoidin’ Wildheart. Bad fer business it is.” As Grisebo finishes telling you this you turn the bend and Grim Village comes into sight.
It doesn’t take long for you to row up to the outskirts. Here is what you see.
Grisebo watches Healer and shakes his head. Lost in his thoughts Healer doesn’t see Grisebo has steered them up to the docks. The boat bumps into the wooden framework and Healer is jostled once again from his revelry. “She rowed,” Grisebo says motioning at Angie, “Someone else tie up”.
As you all jump out of the boat Grisebo says, “Thank ya kindly. Now, here’s where we part ways, got other things ta get done taday. Follow the dock up and it will bring ya into the Village, shouldn’t be hard ta find. Best a luck.”
With that you all head up the dock, but are stopped before you reach the end by a small emaciated man. He sits behind a rickety table with a large book that appears to be bound in cow hide. The man says to you all in an authoritative voice, “Names and reason for visit. Toll’s 1 silver piece each today.”
DM Note: One of you can make a perception check if you want to learn more about the book.
Thokein you have seen similar books on your travels in the frozen north of your home world. You belive that it is called a home skin and it is used to record the name and date of each arrival to the village. With your height advantage can see a few entires were added yesterday, but it also appears that a few may have been erased. You suspect that you can slip the man some extra coin to avoid your arrival from being recorded.
And since you rolled so high.. you also notice that behind the man at the table there is a group of six people dressed in furs and trophies from their hunts and conflicts. Many of them have scars, battle tattoos, and a nasty appearance. Some of them are heavily muscled women who are neither prudish nor merciful. You recognize them as mercenaries, or guards of some kind. You also suspect that they are native to this land.
Turns and whispers to the party, "I've seen people like this before, and noticed some erased entries when I caught a glance at this man's book. I think if we slip him a little extra, we can keep our visit here literally 'off the books'."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Angie moves forward and talks to the emaciated man..
"Hey there big boy. My friends and I are new to this place. We're not even really sure how we got here. Maybe there is someway we can make a more personal donation in lieu of a toll and keep our names out of that nasty ol' book."
Angie bends over seductively to point to a place in the book where it appears a name has been erased. "It looks like you did that for whoever this person was right here." She remains bent over but meets the eyes of the emaciated man with her own stunningly sky blue colored eyes. She bats her eyelashes a bit for good measure.
“Big boy? What in Hel’s name is that? Name’s Svardgrim and I’m the shield Jarl Ybentord Silvertooth’s man. Shan’t be swayed by the likes of you woman. Pay the toll, or you’ll be dealin’ with them” Svardgrim says as he points at the nearby mercenaries.
"I would like to challenge one of those fine gentleman to unarmed combat. Should your chosen champion win, we will pay the toll, and drop some loose coin for you to do with as you please. Should I win, we consider the toll paid as a cost of entertainment, and pass into town unknown to all but you."
Svardgrim wraps his knuckles on the table and says, “Friends, ya look like yer not from around here.. probably from Mittland, or maybe even Westermark. But, yer in the Stormlands now. We don’t take kindly to ya trying to flex yer muscle. Pay the toll, or ya can be thrown in the stockade.. yer choice. But, I suggest ya make it quick, before I have these six rattle yer skulls fer troublin’ me this mornin’.”

"The land is strange here. The air seems different."
Healer cranes his slender neck and audibly sniffs the air .
"This should be most interesting."

Alright. I'll tie the boat.
Gobbler gets up and grabs the rope and attaches it to the boat. He gets off the boat and ties the remaining end.
(*in a baffled tone*) How did we wind up on this boat? I was sure I was in our rooms.
Shakes his head and mutters "uses all those big words, but doesn't understand the word 'grim'."

*Mumbling to himself*
"I wonder how many beasts they slew. It must have been challenging. I bet they are quite strong."
He leans over to tye emaciated man.
"Excuse me Svardgrim. You must be bored sitting here all day. How about an interesting challenge? I would bet our anonamys passage on some fun."
