Herbert stands silently as he listens to the discussion and chimes in, "I will inquire to the generals and Inara how best your group can be utilized to deal with this conflict. I will return to you as soon as I have the necessary information." and he exits leaving you to continue.
Zinmaer- you visit with the blacksmith who examines the amulet and finds a replacement chain that fits you quite comfortably. (2 gold) You spend an hour attuning to the amulet in a state of meditation. Over the course of the hour you feel the muscles in your body go tense then relax periodically. You feel your heart beat rapidly then slow and you breathe deeply and rhythmically calming yourself. At the end of the hour you stand and clinch your fists. they feel like iron and you unleash a flurry of punches and elbows into a stone wall. You pull back your fists expecting them to be bloodied and find they appear as if nothing happened.
"We might as well prepare for anything tomorrow. I'll speak with Valeera to see if she's up for it and we'll decide once we have more information." Gaelin says as he finishes eating and pats Mucor on the shoulder.
He'll head up to Valeera's den and greet her warmly. "Good morning Valeera, I hope you slept well. We are probably going to travel tomorrow for a mission or missions. I was wondering if you would like to come along. It will be dangerous so I can't guarantee your safety but I can guarantee I will do everything I can to protect you." Gaelin says as she approaches and begins to nuzzle Valeera's large dragon head.
"I'm good with whatever as long as we're doing something. I'm going to speak with the mason and carpenter about adding some ballistas to the towers." Aryn says as she stands and exits the room then tracks down each artisan to inquire about getting the siege defenses built.
(@ Xtra I think you said ballistas were 1000 gold? If so, Aryn would like to purchase 4. Can you send a link to the castle to determine which towers to put them on?)
“Good morning Gaelin. I would love to accompany you and your friends on this mission. I think I can escape rather quickly if things get out of hand but I hope you know I’ll be more worried about you.” Valeera responds nudging you slightly with her head. (Her slight nudge nearly lifts you off the floor but you are used to it and stick the landing.) She deftly swipes with her arm and takes your legs out from under you causing you to land on your back. She pounces on top of you, towering over you as if you were a trophy before her form shifts into the slender red haired female and she leans in to kiss you.
(@Aryn- Yes, ballistas are 1000 gold each, which includes 50 bolts/ ballista and it will take 14 days to complete all four. Each additional bolt is one gold and each tower can hold 50 bolts beside the ballista. There is a link to the map of the castle in the campaign notes but I’ve included it in the spoiler below.)
Mucor would make his way back to the grove.. talking to the plants.. encouraging them and praising them for making the grove look so nice as they twist and form themselves into beautiful shapes and form small structures. He would eventually make his way to Button. "Hello friend, I brought you this bag of dust... It used to be a huge corpse of a powerful enemy but it was destroyed... here is all that was left" He would say with a snort, holding out the bag. "How are you and the kids?"
(Got it. Forgot about the campaign notes. I think I'd like them on the four circular towers of the dark grey/brown structure with the square tower in the middle just below Zinmaer's hut. Are those towers higher than the others? If they are the same height as the wall towers I think it'd be better to have them on the SE, SW and NW corners of the wall and then one on the middle tower of the western wall where the northern wall intersects. Is there potential for flaming, exploding or poison bolts?)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(@Aryn- Yes the keep towers are taller than the wall towers. Flaming and poison bolts are available. They are an additional gold piece each.)
Mucor- Button stands and approaches you hugging your leg as you talk (He's roughly 3 feet tall). "Thank you friend. I'm sure it will be delicious." Button takes the bag and spreads it across the large patch of mushrooms and the blue spots glow slightly. "They seem to love it. They are growing fast and Herbert thinks they can support themselves now so I am ready to accompany you whenever you want me. I can stay in the bag or latch onto your back." ( Button now has 33 HP and an AC of 12. I've updated his stats in your character sheet extras.)
(@Gaelin & Aryn- noted Time will not increase for the additional ballistas. 14 days is mainly for the supplies to come in, and testing. Construction only takes 4 days. Ballistas must be manned by three people at all times in order to be able to fire a bolt each round.)
(@everyone- I will post Herbert's findings tomorrow morning. If you'd like to accomplish or start anything else for this game day post now or forever hold your peace. :) )
Mucor would smile wide. "That is great news friend! Now you can help me to tend to the grove, and explore with me... Actually.. That give me an idea." The minotaur would excitedly take a few steps backwards. "OK, I am going to help you see the world like you have never seen it before friend" Mucor would then cast polymorph on Button, turning him into a giant eagle, before turning himself into one as well. He would then motion to button to follow him into the sky... showing his small mushroom friend the surrounding area for miles and miles before returning to Daybreak.
(Ballista locations: The four circular towers and the SE, SW and NW corner towers on the outer wall. She'll pay for 140 flame bolts and 70 poison bolts. 20 regular, 20 flame and 10 poison for each ballista. The additional 210 normal can be stockpiled somewhere.)
(@Aryn- Noted. They will be completed in 14 days.)
(Mucor- you would know you can’t polymorph yourself and Button due to concentration limitations. You’ll just keep recasting it on Button and fly on Stone wing.) “Okay” Button says as Mucor transforms the mushroom into the shape of a giant eagle. Mucor calls Stone Wing and you take to the skies. You soar for hours around the surrounding area taking in all the beauty around you. You return to the grove and Button transforms back into a mushroom. “Thank you Mucor! That was amazing. I hope some of our journeys will be like that, but I know most will involve killing.” Button says with a smile.
You each spend the day preparing in your own way before returning to your quarters and resting. You awake refreshed and ready for whatever the day holds heading down to the dining hall. You expect Herbert to already be waiting for you but he is nowhere to be found. You grab breakfast and finish eating and still no Herbert. You make your way to the grove and find Herbert in a deep trance. You touch him but he remains motionless. You call out to him but he doesn’t respond. Ten minutes go by before he begins to move and turns to greet you in his normal calm way.
“Hello friends. I’ve been up all night communicating with Inara and multiple generals about the highest value targets. I’ve compiled a map of Eraas and marked the general location for each target. There is only one target on Telgun, an orc warlord by the name of Aronak. Aronak is more cunning than brutish. He is solely responsible for the siege and destruction of Rivalae and Amwood. He is currently stationed in the mountains between the two cities and is believed to be working on a plan to attack Xadiff.” As Herbert talks a large glowing image of the continent of Telgun appears and zooms in towards the middle of the continent. A bright red circle begins to flash in the mountains.
The image pans out to the entirety of Eraas and shifts to the western continent of Zhora. Two red circles begin to flash along the east and west parts of Zhora near the border boundaries. “The cities of Traes and Esterlin are under siege. We suspect they can hold out for another 60 days unless their supply lines are severed. Reinforcements are currently en route but are 30 days away. Should either of these cities fall thousands would perish and the lines would break for hundreds of miles.”
A third red circle appears between the border boundary between Haemor, Eshan and Drekthar territory. “The forces of Haemor and Eshan are struggling to work together due to their history of conflict between one another. A hobgoblin general named Rhazal is exploiting this and gaining a mile every few days.”
“These are the four targets that Inara and the generals feel comfortable informing you of. I cannot stress the importance of secrecy regarding these matters. No-one other than yourselves should know about these situations. The choice is now up to you. I can get you within 5 miles of any of these targets. Once there you will be on your own.” Herbert says as he spawns a makeshift bench from the ground and sits leaving magical map of Eraas floating in the air before you.
"Thank you Herbert. I say we go to Zhora and kill Rhazal then make our way to the two cities under siege and try to disrupt the attacks. It looks like Aronak still has a long distance to travel before reaching Xadiff. Rhazal is currently on the move and the most immediate threat. The cities seem fine for the time being but we should help them if we go to Zhora before returning to Telgun. If we can stop or slow the events that are currently happening it will give the people on Zhora more time to rally... " Aryn says looking over the map before continuing, "Herbert, did they say anything about how long they think it will be before Aronak attacks Xadiff or is that just what they think he's doing? Has he made any movements towards the city or he is stationary?"
(I was going to wild shape myself and polymorph button, but taking stone-wing for a ride is good too, I posted in a hurry and didn't explain myself :D )
"Aryn, I agree. Of the threats presented, Rhazal does appear to the most concerning. We may run the risk of being flanked if communication of our involvement makes it to the other two fronts at Traes and Esterlin." Jinara says as he turns to Herbert. "Herbert, what is the history context for the conflict between Haemor and Eshan? If we can get past that, even for the greater good, we would be better positioned in the great war and for the new battles at Traes and Esterlin."
"I feel we need a mode of travel while we are on Zhora, therefore I propose the griffons come with us. Not to fight unless it is advantageous to do so but to allow us the ability to move quickly and efficiently." Jinara says looking at the group.
(OoC: with regards to the extra spell or extra spell slot. I want to ask the group what is the best option? New 5th level spell for more utility? Extra 5th level spell slot? As a sorcerer I can spend sorcery points to gain additional spell slots up to 5th level unless Xtra allows me to buy above :), BUT sorcerers have a limited spell list. The extra spell is not limited to any particular class. I had thought about Tiny Hut, Scrying, Bigby's Hand, Circle of Power, Holy Weapon, Freedom of Movement all of which I can see utility for depending on the situation. thoughts anyone?)
"I agree on the order of attack and that we should take the griffons for travel. This will most likely be a multi-day or multi-week trip so we need to make sure we plan out some time to rest and eat in between fights. I'm sure we'll have the time to rest but it will be important for the griffons and our safety." Gaelin says.
(good! I think that will prove very beneficial on this journey! Here is my justification for each:)
Scrying : Being able to spy would go along way to understand weakness of the Rhazal and other leaders. I can Twin this spell, but it will be fun to see how Xtra works this out lol
Bigby's Hand : Because it is f'ing awesome! hahaha plus it has a lot of versatility
Circle of Power : This would be an epic save feature as we see Daegon and Aemyra more and more
Holy Weapon : This would go well with Zinmaer or Aryn in my opinion. 2d8 plus a radiant fireball whenever we need it is nice. I can Twin this and mark 2 people
Freedom of Movement : This would be good to keep on battlers from being grappled and granting advantage on strikes. I can Twin this as well.
(@Jinara- you only have access to 4th level or lower spells for the current level of the tower(2) but your character has to be level 14 for 4th level spells. You gain access to 5th level spells at tower level 3 and character level 16. Learning a new spell is 1 week/ spell level and gaining a new slot is 1 month/ spell level.)
“Aronak’s movements halted about a week ago, according to local scouts. No one knows how long it may be before the next attack but if he were to plan an assault on a capital city it would probably take a few weeks to a few months.” Herbert responds looking at Aryn then turns to Jinara and adds, “The kingdoms of Haemor and Eshan have fought for thousands of years simply due to proximity. Relative peace was attained but there were minor border clashes throughout the years before the Drekthar invasion. Initially soldiers of the two kingdoms worked well together but as loss after loss drained morale, the two began to cast blame on one another. They still work together but their strained relationship is mostly out of necessity.”
(Poor Jinara. I think Xtra just broke his heart. Holy weapon would be ridiculous if I go first in combat. Advantage on attacks and autocrit if I go before my target. So it'd be 4d8 additional damage in first round. 16d8 in first round once we gain another level and I get extra attack and do action surge for 2 more attacks in the first round if all attacks hit. =Daegon instant kill.)
"Let's get ready to go to Zhora for a while. Gaelin, did Valeera say she would come? If so I think we could use her as a distraction at the front to draw out Rhazal." Aryn says. She would wait for a response from Gaelin before making her way to her quarters and gathering her things before returning to the grove on Calypso with Sansa on her shoulder.
"Yes, she agreed to come. I'll go up and grab her. Let's meet back in ten minutes ready to go?" Gaelin responds looking at the group. He'll head to his quarters to get his things then grab Bronze Claw and Valeera and head back to the grove.
