So I thought of this a while back, but how would people like to try a campaign where everyone starts as a lowly grunt in the devil ranks and have to climb up and grow more powerful as they progress.
Effectively it'd be using a homebrew race, where you start with penalties but become gradually stronger with each level.
Currently playing in: Quest for the Shunned City, Coliseum of Conquest, DragonDenn's Dragonlords, Shipwrecked on Fugue, Tomb of Annihilation, Razor's Lost Mine of Phandelver, The Lost Kenku & One Grung Above
Currently DMing: Princes of the Apocalypse, Out of the Abyss, Coliseum of Conquest—The Arena (Sometimes)

Maybe that would tie into how background's as homebrew fiends. They might provide unique skills, abilities, or prestige/rank under the right circumstances.
Backgrounds and classes can be from any legal D&D Beyond source.
The race starts off quite detrimental (as you are effectively quasits, and a couple of goblins would be a challenge), but you gain stat ups every level, ending up more powerful than a standard race ability-score wise and with some racial diversity to allow for different party dynamic. Still working out the ability distribution.
You would start as new grunts within the devil ranks, under the rule of a more powerful devil. Basically it'll be more of one-shot missions and you'll gain xp per mission you succeed in. However, if you die, you end up going back to Hell and having to start over.
Your character backstory could be anything, as it basically doesn't matter in the slightest to where you currently are. It generally ends with "and then I died and made a deal with a devil to live on as a fiend".

This certainly looks like a great idea, and I am all for it, though I will not be able to actually play it since I don't have enough character slots.

Interested. Not sure if I'll have time to follow up on the interest, but we'll see.
Oh, I'd love this! Seems awesome.

I've got the same problem as Hydra in regards to character slots, but my interest remains undaunted.

I’m definitely interested. What type of backstory should our devils have? Like who we were before we were devils, how we sold our soul?

Hmm. Wonder what we'd do to get higher in ranks.
