After some trepidation P.B at least follows the others into the first chamber, and takes a close look around the area using her new sight to spot in oddities about the area. But in finding nothing, she tries to stick close to Four and Nox, following wherever they go with shield and hammer at the ready for any surprises. "The mist still spreads. Be mindful, everyone." She whispers at least to Four and/or Nox.
Talon pardons and excuses himself to the front of the line and is the second one to venture into the room. As he moves closer to the northern door, Graxx and Flynric follow in close proximity.
PB takes a few steps into the room as well. After having a general look around and confirming nothing is hiding in the fog immediately surrounding the group, she turns around and keeps close to Four and Nox, who are now just a few steps away from the portcullis.
Talon then reaches the door and hears steps; quick ones at that. They are coming toward the door. The dwarf moves away from the violently swinging kicked door to see the vaguely familiar half-orcish face of a fellow prisoner. He holds a trident and a net, and another one of those brain creatures is perched on his shoulder.
ROLLING FOR INITIATIVE:
Flynric: 11;
Four: 16;
Graxx: 9;
Nox: 21;
PB: 3;
Talon: 13;
Thokk (half-orc prisoner): 22;
Intellect Devourer (no need to say sheep anymore): 22;
Mixed bag of fun things: 18, 9; 5.
-> Talon's second Blink roll: 9 - the dwarf remains on the field.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
In a single arm movement, Thokk throws his net and grabs his trident with a second hand. The net flies over Talon, and towards Graxx. There is nothing in his eyes but the thirst for battle, and Talon is the first obstacle.
-> Net vs. Graxx (not at disadvantage): 25 - Graxx becomes restrained.
Thokk then growls furiously and initiates his assault on Talon:
-> Trident vs. Talon (MI die: 12): Attack: 31 Damage: 8 magical piercing - Thokk aims at one of the illusions, destroying it (images left: 2).
-> Trident vs. Talon (MI die: 3): Attack: 27 Damage: 11 magical piercing - This one hits the true Talon, and it counts as a critical hit (additional damage dice: 14 + re-rolling the two 1s: 8 for a grand total of 33 magical piercing damage).
-> Trident vs. Talon (MI die: 19): Attack: 26 Damage: 9 magical piercing - Thokk snags another one of the illusions, destroying it (images left: 1).
-> Trident vs. Talon (MI die: 4): Attack: 17Damage: 12 magical piercing - This one catches the real Talon again but damage is avoided (reference).
-> Trident vs. Talon (MI die: 19): Attack: 25Damage: 14 magical piercing - What a whiff!
The half-orc's furious battle style strikes at Talon mercilessly (Talon takes a total of 46 33 magical piercing damage and has only one Mirror Image left).
From Thokk's shoulder, the brain pet also swipes at the dwarf:
-> Claw vs. Talon (MI die: 18): Attack: 21Damage: 6 slashing - That's a miss.
Then, it shifts focus to Graxx:
-> Graxx's INT saving throw {DC 12}: 8 - expecting this trick, the dragonborn steels his mind.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Hearing the commition Nox tries to get angle take out her staff to hex(Disadvantage on DEX ability check) and shoot the little brain to smithereens. Attack: Attack: 31 Damage: 23 7 force /4 necro damage Attack: Attack: 26 Damage: 10 15 force / 7 necro damage Attack: Attack: 18 Damage: 17 14 force / 1 necro damage
If she doesn't have sight of it she instead move closer to the dragonborn and ready herself to cast Darkness using her sorcery point (2SP) on her staff until PB finished her business.
In the confusion Talon still has enough presence of mind to magically block one of the trident attacks preventing a portion of the damage.
REACTION: Shield blocking 13 damage from the 4th trident attack. Overall damage to Talon should now be 33 hp. Talon's AC until the start of his next turn is effectively 23.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
REACTIONS (during Thokk's turn)
After being hit once and losing two of his illusions in rapid succession, Talon refocuses and throws up a shield. The dwarf's reaction helps him avoid the next thrust of the trident. Unfortunately, it also allows his opponent to seek another weak point:
-> Trident vs. Talon (MI die: 11): Attack: 21 Damage: 9 magical piercing - This one hits the real Talon, and on top of the damage specified in the previous roll, Talon takes another 2 magical piercing damage.
-> Talon takes a total of 22 magical piercing damage during this reaction.
Noticing that the battle has started, Nox wiggles her way into the room to get a good view of the action {CQ-20}. Once there, she blasts the pet brain on Thokk's shoulder (gets some cover). By the time the third magic ray hits it, the creature is already sizzling (Intellect Devourer#12 - CMD: 48 -> DEFEATED).
This is when, from the path leading southeast, a second familiar face comes flying towards those by the entrance to the chamber. PB's incredible awareness and just-in-time warning prevents the group from being surprised by the ex-friend's flying speed. Mace in hand, Graxximus moves with incredible speed towards the first opponent it sees. Four has the dubious honor of being the only one who hasn't entered the chamber yet. Graxximus flies up to {CS-22} just above ground, while swearing eternal animosity against Four(Vow of Enmity) and encouraging the intellect Devourer perched on his shoulder to do the same. Graxximus then attacks:
-> Mace of Smiting vs. Four: Attack: 23 Damage: 14 magical bludgeoning and radiant damage.
-> Mace of Smiting vs. Four: Attack: 25 Damage: 16 magical bludgeoning and radiant damage.
-> Mace of Smiting vs. Four: Attack: 14 Damage: 18 magical bludgeoning and radiant damage.
-> Mace of Smiting vs. Four: Attack: 31 Damage: 17 magical bludgeoning and radiant damage.
-> Mace of Smiting vs. Four: Attack: 21 Damage: 12 magical bludgeoning and radiant damage.
-> Because Four is a construct, he takes an additional 2 magical bludgeoning damage for each attack that hits (I used the wrong damage bonus in the rolls above, so this compensates for that).
-> Overall, Four takes 78 damage this turn (of which: 60 magical bludgeoning damage and 18 radiant damage).
The Intellect Devourer releases its signature trick, which it had been holding on to for the past few seconds. His target is the foe just beyond the warforged:
-> Nox's INT saving throw {DC 12}: 7 + Bless: 2 - Aura of Protection is clutch!
(Four, Talon, Flynric, and Graxx are up next. If Graxx wants to get rid of the net enveloping him (i.e. restrained), he must spend an action to do so. Which action specifically will depend on your description.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Flynric swears under his breath, cursing Thokk for joining the enemy and focusing himself on revenge. He then ducks and rolls underneath Thokk’s legs (Halfling Nimbleness), coming out of the dive with two stabs into his back.
BA: Vow of Emnity targeting Thokk
To Hit: 20 Damage: 8 Magical Piercing
To Hit: 29 Damage: 14 Magical Piercing
The first attack to hit delivers another 12 Magical Piercing from Sneak Attack
Talon is frustrated that he didn't allow some of his stronger companions to open the door first. He feels the pain but is still in the fight. He will curse this trident weilding demon and then use his resources of sorcery to attempt to cause wounds on this creature.
BONUS ACTION: Hexblade's curse
ACTION: cast Inflict Wounds 4th level slot: Attack: 15 Damage: 32 (possible use of Favored by the God's and Empowered Spell after looking at my rolls)
I will use neither option (really wanted a better roll than 4, sigh)
Blink roll: 19 Talon disappears (at least this worked out for Talon :-) )
Graxx roars and will use his Action to attempt to tear through the net restraining him.
Straight D20 Roll: 7 Strength Check is +3 Athletics is +8.
IF Graxx breaks the Net he will move to CQ,-16.(If he cannot move I am not sure if he will have Line of Sight to use Spiritual Weapon. Please let me know.)
Graxx then raises he sword into the air as he cast Spiritual Weapon at level three which appears at CN,-16 in the form of a Flaming Sword of Tempus.
He then swipes his sword with his spiritual weapon mocking his movements. The sword will aim for a Intellect Devourer if still alive or Thokk if not.
Four just manages to keep concentration on his spell, but his intended immediate retaliation against Graxximus is halfhearted at best. The magically sped-up warrior dodges the attacks easily.
Talon also tries to retaliate against Thokk, but fails. Clenching his wounds, the dwarf hexes the half-orc with his Hexblade's Curse and then disappears.
Quicker than his companions, Flynric tumbles through the enemy's legs and stabs him in the back after vowing to bring him down no matter the cost (Thokk - CMD: 16 + 21 = 37). From his new spot, the halfling can see a long hallway leading east, then south. It continues on beyond what he can currently see.
Graxx manages to push the net aside, though he struggles with it for longer than he should. Once free, he moves to one side and manifests a Spiritual Weapon behind his half-orcish foe. The flaming sword of Tempus slashes at Thokk, catching him off guard (Thokk - CMD: 63).
From the southeast corner of the room, through the whole on the wall that once housed Whale-Graxximus, a third familiar face appears to challenge you. Her shell seems heavy and yet it does not slow her down. Several cherry blossom petals flit around the tortle, never falling down to the ground.She approaches, as does the intellect devourer perched on a hump on her shell.
Karwin moves to a spot just behind Graxx, at {CR-16}. Before she is completes her move, Graxx can already feel the petals moving his way:
-> Graxx's WIS saving throw {DC 18} (I miss-typed the Bless die info in the roll, but it makes little difference in the end): 27
Undeterred, Karwin slashes with her long, curved sword after concentrating on each muscle in her body.
-> Katana vs. Graxx: Attack: 28 Damage: 17 slashing - Graxx is nicked across the cheek.
-> Katana vs. Graxx: Attack: 17Damage: 10 slashing - Graxx blocks with his shield.
The Intellect Devourer releases its signature trick, which it had been holding on to for the past few seconds like its brethren:
Able to resist the tiny creature this time, a bit of blood slides down the dragonborn's face (Graxx takes a total of 17 slashing damage).
Following a few steps behind Karwin, a fourth familiar face appears. This one belongs to the shepherd himself, as well as his three similarly dressed companions. It stops by the destroyed doorway {CX-13} as it finishes an incantation.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
P.B. saw red the moment the shepherd stepped into the room followed by Karwin. Or at least, what once was Karwin. No matter the truth of the circumstances, she relaxes her hold, took a deep breathe, and made one last 'I got my eyes on you' gesture at the big bad on her way over to {CR-22} to face Graxximus. "Burn." She states simply with such ironclad conviction that Graxximus' armor heats up to unbearable amounts.
"Well done, Number Four. But I shall it take it from here. Strip this shell of magics if can. But if not, aid the others, while I hold this one off."
Action: P.B Casts (5th level)Heat Metal on Graxximus' Armor(chest piece, if need to be specific), inflicting 14 Fire damage to any creature in contact with the armor. A creature may make a DC 18 Con Save to maintain hold of the object, or must drop the object if possible.
Bonus Action: P.B gives Four a Bardic Inspiration(d8).
(Additional Note: Graxx must make a (DC ???) Concentration Save, or lose concentration on any currently active conc. spells)
(Triple Note: If moving to CR-22 does not place her out of Line of Sight with the Shepard, then she will instead smite the Brain. Rolls are in spoiler)
2nd Attack: 26 Damage: 14 magical bludgeoning damage vs Graxximus' brain dog(if still alive), or Graxximus (if not).
1st Attack Smite/Slashing Flourish Damage: (2nd level)8 radiant damage(target only) and 3 magical bludgeoning damage to both target hit, and Graxximus.
2nd Attack Smite/Defensive Flourish Damage: (4th level)20 radiant damage and 8 magical bludgeoning damage, adding an additional 7 to PB's AC, making the total 27.
(Bonus Action remains unchanged, rolls subject to added bonus to damage if it, or change in targets, and Protection from Evil and Good is maintained instead)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
PB moves closer to Graxximus while giving Four a few encouraging words (d8 Bardic Inspiration die).
The firbolg then smashes the perched Intellect Devourer with a single but empowered swing of her magically imbued hammer (Intellect Devourer#18 - CMD: 26 -> DEFEATED). The blow goes through the creature and lands on Graxximus's shoulder with still some force. PB takes advantage of the placement of her weapon and drags the hammer across her old companion's face, drawing blood from his mouth (Graxximus takes 45 magical bludgeoning and radiant damage in total).
-> Graxximus' first concentration check {DC 10}: 9
-> Graxximus' second concentration check {DC 20}: 21 - Graxximus falls 5 feet to the ground and looks quite exhausted.
PB then almost completely hides herself behind her (tower?) shield.
Talon will approach the door at CP, -16 and examines it. If it is just a normal door he will try to open it. perception 20
Lot's of stuff ...
Seeing Talon approach the door Graxx quickly follows with shield raised behind him to ensure he receives protection from his Aura.
"I am with you, Talon."
Flynric also moves in that direction, should his expertise be needed.
