Violet, hearing Quilqwen's discovery and summary of Hope's words, frowns, beneath her mask and hood, is a expression of worry and annoyance, "****. Sounds like it's got something to do with that Orc's weird ass ritual and that book I had....which means...." She pulls out the heart again, and holds it in her hand, "I'll put good money that this thing is connected to it somehow."
As the group talks Quilqwen gets the inn keeps attention waving him over to the table "What can you tell us about the girl, Hope, you have helping in your kitchen?"
"not much really. She doesn't speak much of her past, we only really know that her mother died at some point and that she's been on her own for a month or so. We an eye on her, but she's a good worker, doing any task we put in front of her. But she is very quiet and doesn't like to get too close to anyone. "
"It's all connected, of course, but how is the question. If Tailine's mentor would be a bit more forthcoming, then perhaps we could get somewhere. But as it is, we're stuck here with no real leads waiting for the shadows to take us. I don't suppose there's a gargantuan library that's been hidden around these parts, is there?"
"Oh yes, that mysterious 'L'. I suppose we could gather the townsfolk and have a meeting, try to see if anyone will run if we pressure them. He most likely was the one who the goblin was delivering payment to."
Estellen walks over to the barkeep to whisper in his ear, "We need you to gather up the original people of this town and bring them to a square of some sort, do you think you could manage that?"
Violet, shrugs and quickly decides that whatever is about to happen, isn't for her and moves outside to keep playing/attuning to the heart she got. It was clear that it and that stupid book voice thing, had something to do with what was going on, and she wasn't going to get more answers by playing it safe.
Making her way to the roof of the inn (if possible) she'll focus on the heart. She makes sure to grab a bottle a booze before heading up though, chances were, she was going to need the drink later.
Walking back to the kitchen area Quilqwen asks Hope if she likes animals and if she would like to help him feed some of the local animals. Either way he then goes about the town making seeds, leaves, flowers, etc to attract any wild or domestic animals he can. While he feeds them he uses his Speech of the Woods to ask them if they have seen any more unusual things today. More goblins or moving shadows or anything else that doesn't belong. If Hope happens to go along he gently encourages her to try feeding the animals and helps her anyway he can. Trying to get her to relax and open up a bit.
It’s one of the guard’s birthdays today, most of them will be drunk. If you attack tonight it will be easy. Just make sure I get my reward. L.
(That's note from way back that I assume someone kept)
Estellen: "Given what's just happened, I don't think many people would turn up... But L.... I think I remember a halfling with a name beginning with L, bit of a shifty looking type too. Give me a moment"He heads to the back for a moment, returning with a large, leather bound book. He spends a moment looking through a few pages before spinning the book around and pointing at a name Lexand. "There, that's the guy. Haven't seen him in here since. Could still be around somewhere though with all the confusion"
Quilqwen: She goes along with it, feeding a few, but is still quite wary. She doesn't mention anything new, but it doesn't seem like she's hiding anything. The animals haven't seen any goblins or shadows, but they say that something in the air feels wrong.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Estellen nods when the bartender mentions the halfling, "Interesting. Thank you for the information. Perhaps we will not be needing a gathering after all. Do you know of any place that he frequents?"
Regardless of the response, he goes to get Doc, whispering to him, "I may have found a lead on the author of that note. I need you to come with me in case I find him."
After that, he'll begin to search the town for any halflings and ask them their name. Investigation: 18
With Doc having gone outside after speaking to the Tiefling girl, Quil and Hope would have noticed that Doc is now nowhere to be found, and the animals would have mentioned they saw him walking along the road, holding a sealed letter in his hand.
Quilqwen - (To be clear I am not meaning to pump Hope for any more info. Just trying to make a friend.)
Quilqwen wonders about Doc’s sudden departure but let’s him go. Assuming that at some point Quilqwen and Hope run into Estellen he will ask the animals about the halfling the elf is looking for as well.
Quilqwen: They tell you that they have seen many small people around (they appear to have no understanding or care of the difference between gnomes/halflings and children)
Estellen: As you ask around the town, a few names make you ask twice, but in the end you find no-one with the name Lexand.
Estellen will find Quilqwen, Violet, Tailine, and Jartrin and speak to them all, "I feel like we've reached a dead end in this town. We may have to search outside for more information. What say you all?"
Finding Violet on the roof, she gives you a dirty eyeball as she's trying to focus on that weird heart thing from earlier, but just sighs after a moment and waves at you, "Yah yah, whatever. If you guys want to leave, I'm down for it."

Hope doesn't allow you to lay it over her shoulders, only allowing you to pass it to her, after which she mumbles a thank you.

”We did find a letter with an initial after the initial attack on the town. Perhaps we could try to track down who wrote that. “
(waiting for you guys to decide what to do)
(Any one remember what was in that note we found?)
(Not really, sorry XP)

Shortly afterward when Estellen goes to get Doc, he, too, notices the Tortle's absence. Looking in Doc's room, Estellen would have found the sack of supplies Doc had previously received from the townspeople, his advanced shield (shield, +1), 2x potion of healing, 1 elixir of health, 1 potion of animal friendship and 1 potion of speed.
Affixed to the front of the sack is a note, saying:
"Headed to Byham. Must deliver urgent message to temple and assist them before it's too late."
Doc will be making his exit here. Thanks guys, and best of luck moving forward!
