Tailine, who has been sitting quietly and thinking, will nod. "I doubt that army of monsters is going to stay in one place. We might be able to learn more about them if we can find out where they are going next."

As you've gone about your searches during your day and other activities, the sun has travelled across the sky and into dusk. Although there is some light left of the day, night is fast approaching.
Bryant sets a meal for you in the evening. It's not much, many town supplies having been taken recently, but it's still a filling and well cooked meal. Alongside the meal comes a strange object. It is placed in front of to Quilqwen, and Bryant says that it comes from the young girl. It is like a large coin, but made of iron, and on one side it has a strange marking. The marking looks similar to a religious or cult symbol, although none of you recognise it. The other side is completely smooth, so much so that it almost slides around on the table.
As the shadows get longer, those that saw shadows moving within shadows earlier, see them a bit more clearly now. Either darting from shadow to shadow, like a flash of darkness, or causing the shadows to almost ripple with movement. Those that didn't see them earlier regard the strange effects as the flickering of torchlight or something like that.
(This week is/has been super hectic at work for me, so I'm not getting much time to do other stuff. As such I might not be able to post much/at all until early next week. Also I'm going to leave Doc's spot empty for now, partly because the party covers all the major bases with its current set up, and partly because of work.)
I thank Bryrant for the food and ask if Hope said anything about what the disc is or why she gave it to me. Either way I thank him for it and eat in silence while studying the disc. Do I get a sense that it is magical or what it’s purpose is?
Quilqwen: Like a wizards staff, it has a faint magical essence. This is more because of magic channelled through it or used on it though. He says that Hope didn't mention anything else about it.
Jatrin: There are a few survivors from other towns still here, but most have already left. They say that no settlement has ever been attacked, by Orcs at least, also mentioning that the only Orc attacks they can think of are against caravans, traders, or travellers far out on the roads.
All: You all start to hear whispers that crawl their way into your brain, seemingly bypassing your ears entirely. "Return what was taken. You are walking dead. But you will walk longer if it is returned."
Some world info on the structure of 'government' in this area. Towns are governed by a Town Master, this person will also often govern small nearby villages/hamlets as well. A Noble or Lord will govern a region (having several Town Masters under them). These Nobles/Lords often have disputes or small wars over bits of land, but they are rarely serious. A King/Queen governs the 'country', with their throne in a major city.
The King/Queen (and their council) will make general laws, but Nobles/Lords will often add to those laws depending on what they want. The Town Masters then enforce those laws.
Same with taxes, the King/Queen demands a tax from the Nobles/Lords, who in turn demand it from their Town Masters. The Noble/Lords often add to the demand in order to make a profit themselves. The Town Master is then in charge of collecting and sending the tax to the Noble/Lord, although they rarely do it themselves, hiring someone to do it for them.
You know the local Lord/Noble is Azur Lightshard and that they are rarely (if at all) seen. Seems to rule well enough though as you have heard of no obvious complaints or praise for them from those that you have met.
Out of the corner of your eye you think you see... something through the window. You keep looking for a moment and then you see one of the lamps outside go out. Not slowly as if out of fuel, but from a large, bright flame to darkness. Then another, and another.
Estellen backs away from the approaching tide of darkness, alarmed. He takes out the scroll of Void Mist that he took earlier, and holds it out, hesitating momentarily before hurling it into the darkness.
Snatching up the scroll Estellen threw. Then heads for the door casting Shillelagh on his staff as he goes. "It seems we will face this darkness sooner rather than later."
At the loud commotion Bryant looks up, looks out the window, and starts moving everyone upstairs with haste. Making sure he's the last up, he nods to you before turning and leaping up the stairs a few at a time.
As he's about half way up the stairs a strange hole appears in the wall, followed by a glimpse of something entire alien. Made up of a deeper blackness than you've ever known or dared dream about. (Estellen, Violet, you've already experienced this/seen it) It's form shifts constantly, a tentacle-like limb one moment, a claw the next, and something akin to wings after that. It has no defined body or head, just a mass of shifting darkness.
It flies across the room in the blink of an eye, landing on the single lantern currently lit in the centre of room. And then there's darkness.
It takes a mere second for your eyes to adjust to the dim light (as there is still some dusk light filtering in through the windows), for the moment you've lost sight of the creature (eyes adjusting to the dim light properly)
Creature's initiative: 9
Quilqwen is NW of the room (by the door).
Violet, Jatrin, Tailine are fairly central, but over to the W side of the room a bit.
Estellen is S/SW of the room.
Roll initiative! Each of you can perform one action (before combat) that does not require an attack roll. You currently cannot see the creature (so targeted saving throw spells won't work, nor will magic missile. But something like fireball on a guessed space, might work.), but those with darkvision will be able to from their first round of combat. Those withoutdarkvision can make a Perception roll at the start of each of their turns until they succeed (DC 15). Until then you can't see the creature.
Room is approx. 40ft (N to S) by 30ft (E to W) and 15ft tall. The last place you saw the creature was about 8ft up a pillar in the middle of the room.
(Rolling my ability checks with disadvantage because Tailine is dumb and didn't sleep has a level of exhaustion from not sleeping the night before.)
Initiative: 20
Tailine will throw herself behind the bar attempting to break line of sight so she can hide from the shadow monster and gain advantage. She'll pull her bow and hope this isn't one of the same things that mauled Strife. If it is, then they are screwed.
Hide Action Stealth Check: 8
(If she can't hide, she'll knock over a table and try to take cover behind it.)

Current Characters: Tailine, Tiefling Rogue 2 - Zanoliv
As soon as the darkness falls, four voices are heard muttering words to cast magic. The lantern in the centre just manages to relight, only just casting a bright light on the area once more. A wave of energy flows from Jatrin, causing himself, Quilqwen, and Violet to glow slightly with holy energy. Tailine rolls over a nearby table, pulling it down for cover as she does so with a loud thud.
The light shows the creature up on the beam supports of the roof, some 10ft up, at the eastern side of the room.
A moment later a bolt of fire launches from Estellen's staff along with 3 missiles from Violet's strange crystal. Unlike what you've seen of magical missiles in the past (normally fairly bright magical darts), these 3 missiles match the darkness of the creature they surge towards.
(3d4+3 damage from Violet, an attack roll for Estellen, and +1d4 to attack rolls and saving throws for Jatrin, Quilqwen, and Violet)
As Violet casts the spell, her muscles tense slightly and the veins on her left arm go black for a second. (Violet you take 1 necrotic damage)

He also ask Bryant and any survivors from other town still here: "Is this the first time the orc army invaded your town?"

”Interesting. It seems to be some sort of aid for using magic. Much like my staff.”
When the voice echos in his head he looks around quickly “Did anyone else hear that?”
He attempts to think back at the voice “Who are you? Return what?“
Violet stands up, glaring as she turns her head back and forth, trying to pin point the origins of that voice, "What the fu-SHOW YOUR SELF!"
The only answer is a heavy silence.
Out of the corner of your eye you think you see... something through the window. You keep looking for a moment and then you see one of the lamps outside go out. Not slowly as if out of fuel, but from a large, bright flame to darkness. Then another, and another.

"....no way am I listening to some random ass voice that won't even show it's face. You want something you dark bastard, come get it."
Quilqwen
Snatching up the scroll Estellen threw. Then heads for the door casting Shillelagh on his staff as he goes. "It seems we will face this darkness sooner rather than later."
