"Nothing so specific as that. We can safely assume that the shadows moving has something to do with the events of the previous day, as I have never observed this phenomenon before then. What we can do about it... well, if we can send that creature back to wherever it came from, that should restore things to normal. The only question is, how do we do that? It appears to be immune to magic."
"The orcs attacked and took people who they used in a ritual to bring that...thing. Shadow Demon? Someone here helped them right? Didn't we find a note with an initial on it? There also was some sort of ritual occurring at the temple. What can you tell us of what happened there and what you saw? We could try to talk to one of the orcs or goblins, if we can find them again, and see what this Shadow Demon is. And what it wants. Other than to steal peoples souls."
(very busy week for me so that's the reason for me not posting much. Should be able to do the the next major post by the end of the week/weekend, but feel free to continue other discussions)
The morning disappears into noon as your conversation about the events of the past few days continues. Tailine appears a couple of times to get refills of water, but is otherwise absent. Doc and Jartrin take turns looking in on Strife and Tailine.
Strife is looking better, he is no longer bleeding or sweating and appears to be merely sleeping off exhaustion at this point. Tailine however is looking worse for wear, having not slept in sometime. Her eyes have trouble staying open and she moves sluggishly.
It’s just as the smell of cooking begins to waft from the kitchens that a few people enter the inn and head over to your table. You recognise Sil (the Gnome blacksmith), but none of the others. A few are carrying small bags.
Sil steps forward, “Firstly I must deeply thank you for the return of Gaeryn and Rayna. I’m not sure what I would have done without them… But I am also deeply saddened that several did not return.” He pauses for a moment, reflecting on this before continuing. “You did us a service, and you are due pay. We do not have much, for obvious reasons, but what we lack in payment we can make up in services.”
On the table next to you they lay out the contents of the small bags:
A large coin-like item, made of wood with an oak tree carved into it. (it’s about the size of a hand)
[Token of Safe Haven: When placed in/on soil and when water is poured over it, a large oak tree quickly grows over the course of a minute. The trunk is 5ft wide and within it is a door with a wooden key in it. This door leads to a small pocket dimension (30ft x 30ft). Once the door is closed it can only be opened from the inside or with the key. The tree is invulnerable to all damage. After 24 hours have passed, the tree withers over the course of a minute, disintegrating into dust at the end of that time. During this time the pocket dimension slowly collapses as well.]
Sil then says that you will always have safe haven in this town and offers to make an item/weapon for you. Some options are listed below, but feel free to suggest your own ideas. (all will be made of metal)
Restricted to applying to the following.
Simple melee weapons that do not have the heavy or two-handed property, Martial melee weapons that do not have the heavy or two-handed property, 40 arrows, 40 bolts
Fine - crits on 19/20
Aerodynamic - adds the thrown (20/60) quality. If it already has this this quality, the ranges are doubled
More spikes! - +1 to damage rolls (serrated blade, added spikes, etc.)
Advanced shield - +3 AC instead of +2 (metal only)
Spiked Shield - can bash as BA for 1d4 piercing damage (metal only)
Shieldbow - light crossbow with a shield on front, providing +1 AC when held (makes the weapon heavy and two-handed)
Collapsable - A weapon with a handle can have that handle collapse for ease of storage or concealment or anything else that could be deemed useful.
Convert any armour into the cast-off version of it.
Doc will take his share off the table, pocketing 16 gold, a potion of healing and an elixir of health. He'll then ask Sil to forge an advanced shield. "Lost my last one back there in the quarry. I am most gracious for your kindness." He then goes back to occasionally checking in on Strife and Tailine after grabbing some food and water.
Jatrin takes 32 gold and 3 Potion of Healing for him and Tailine. The dragonborn looks while holding at the oak carved coin and say to quil "I think you might like this one" and flick it in the air toward him.
Jatrin will go back to Tailine room and give her share of 16 gold and 2 Potion of Healing. He ask if she want an item or weapon commisioned by the blacksmith. Before he exit her room "You should atleast get a short nap you look you could collapse any minute me and doc can watch over him for shortwhile and wake you up incase he regain his sense"
If she agree he ask her to wait for minute and goes back down first to ask the gnome for and advanced shield for himself and what Tailine asked to be made and goes back up sitting over chair watching over Tieflings. If not he stays in the lobby.
Catching the wooden coin Quilqwen looks over it closely then turns to Sil "This is an exquisite piece of work my friend. I would very much like to talk with the person who crafted such a wonderful item." The druid also takes his 16 gold and a potion of healing.
Violet grabs 16 gold and a healing potion, "Thank you~" She'd then like to talk to the blacksmith and see of he can upgrade her dagger with the Fine, property.
Estellen takes a potion of healing and reaches for the last elixir of health. “Thank you, Sil. I do not currently require anything at the moment, but rest assured I appreciate the offer.”
As Jartrin looks in on Tailine, you see her asleep in the chair, you decide against waking her, after all there will be plenty of time to sort out rewards later. Jartrin puts the healing potions and gold in the top of her backpack, and leaves them both to their slumber.
Sil takes note of your requests, and lets you know it'll take at least a day before they're ready. In response to Quilqwen, they reply "We know not when, why, or who crafted this item. It's been the family for a long while. I believe it was... found by one of my ancestors, and since then has merely been a decoration." They all then leave you to enjoy your lunch.
It is shortly after this that the sound of someone slowly coming down the stairway gives you cause to look up. Expecting to see Tailine walking down, perhaps for food or water, you are surprised that you see Strife making his way carefully down the stairs. He seems far more mobile than someone in his condition should be, although he often leans on something for support. In his remaining hand he holds his broken sword tight to his chest when he's not stabilising himself as he walks.
He makes his way to the bar, sits on a stool, plunges whats left of the sword in the bar, and reaches behind the it and begins to drink something strong from a bottle. You see Bryant move towards the man, but stops part way as Strife seems to give him the 'back off' look.
(1 potion of healing and the other 2 potions are currently unclaimed)
Quilqwen heads over to the bar. "Hello. It is Strife, correct? I am Quilqwen." Gesturing back to the table they are all seated at. "We met Tailine two days ago near an Orc encampment and were with her here when you came in last night. You seem to be doing much better. Would you care to join us and talk to us about what happened?"
(Sorry for the silence folks, been dealing with some illness for the past week.)
From above, there's the sound of a loud curse and then rapid footsteps moving across the floor and then down the staircase. Tailine will pause at the bottom of the stairs and see Strife at the bar. A flurry of emotions will move over her face- first relief, then embarrassment and finally settling on sullen anger. She'll cross her arms and lean back against the wall- waiting to see what he'll do.

Current Characters: Tailine, Tiefling Rogue 2 - Zanoliv
He seems to pay you no mind until you're an arms reach away. At which point he moves, or at least he must have done whilst you blinked, as he is now on his feet, staring at you, his broken blade at your throat. The stool he was sitting on then hits them floor with a thud and the bottle wobbles a bit, but lands upright on the bar. His blade is not yet drawing blood, but you know the faintest increase in pressure would cause it to do so. You get the feeling that although mortally wounded and one-handed, he could probably still beat anyone or anything placed in front of him.
"I am not your friend, bird. My business is my own and you'd do well to keep your distance." Without even turning his head or gaze, "Tailine! Exhaustion is merely weakness of the mind, you should be stronger than that..."
Taking a step back. "I am sorry to have invaded your space. I will try not to alarm you so again. You are to harsh on Tailine though. She stayed up caring for you through the night while you were EXHAUSTED from whatever ordeal you have gone through."
Tailine will give Quilqen a look and give her head a terse shake to try and discourage him from getting into anything with the other tiefling.
She takes Strife's reprimand without a word of excuse. She will move to the bar, keeping a generous amount of space between the two of them and say quietly in Infernal:
Estellen stands up as Quilqwen backs off from Strife, "Good to see you're feeling energetic. Now there are some things you will be having to answer so that we can get a fuller picture of the situation. Tell me, what do you know of the void?"
He looks at Strife expectantly, leaning on his staff.
As Quilqwen backs off he lowers the blade and sits back down (completely ignoring Estellen as he does so). He once more stabs the blade into the bar and responds in Infernal "Now."
Although light outside, the interior of the inn is still lit to prevent it being gloomy. All the sources of light in the room flicker for a moment, causing shadows areas to become darkened. (those that saw shadows moving before see them again for a moment) The lights then return to their normal level, causing the darkness to disappear again.
Doc, Jartrin and Violet, as you are not currently occupied with activity and watching (and spell casters), you notice the air seems to be getting ever so slightly heavier. Similar to the feeling of a build in the air before a storm, it's a feeling like a build up in magical or at least non-mundane energy.

(Does the idea of shadows moving or some such a phenomenon ring any bells for Quilqwen from his druidic training?)
(beyond illusion magic, no)
