Jackson’s strikes against the doppleganger hit hard across the upper body. Its stumbles back from the strikes and looks at Jackson with a sneering growl.
It will then strike at Jackson with another forearm slam.
Attack: 17 Damage: 9
As Harukai yells his insult at Grol, he turns just in time to see Harukai’s staff strike him across the face. As he stumbles back, Harukai kicks him in the cheast and, hearing ribs break from the force, Grol falls to the ground bleeding from his facial wound.
Nil’s turn once again. Grol is dead and the doppleganger is heavily wounded.
"Not doing so bad yourself, I see!" Jackson yells back at Harukai shortly before taking yet another hit from the doppleganger. "AH! Could use a bit of assistance over here if you're done with the bugbear."
Nil sees that the doppelganger is threatening Jackson and goes into a blind rage. Nil's blades again slice across the doppelganger and critically hits it in a slice across the neck. It falls to the floor, bleeding heavily.
Snarl standing in the corner sees his master and his associate fall one right after the other. He bolts out the door in a full dash.
Harukai pauses to take a deep breath, then looks around to assess the situation for additional threats. If he sees none, will join the others in checking on Gundren, then search the bodies and the room for useful items or information.
In looking around the room, you initially do not see anything of value, but Gundren stands and begins searching the room frantically saying "my map! I need my map! I know that lunatic bugbear had it."
In searching you finally discover the map hidden under Grol's mattress, along with 225 silver, 130 gold, and 3 regular healing potions.
Sildar approaches Gundren, "My friend, I am glad to see you are okay. I am sorry I failed you on the road here."
Gundren says "No worries, while in their captivity I heard Grol conversing with several individuals, including that doppelganger several times. The goblins were hired directly by the black spider to attack and capture us. They also were very concerned with you" pointing to the adventurers "as they became aware that you were under my employment. I don't think they realized you were just hired as escorts and they became increasingly aggressive as you got closer to discovering their plans. I appreciate the effort you put in to finding me and ensuring the map was not destroyed. I will ensure you are properly compensated following this ordeal. I would like to request you to travel to the mine and find my brothers who went there to clear the way through the mine before the black spider finds it."
"Seeing as we hadn't seen or faced any other goblins on our route in, I suggest we attempt to retrace our steps in order to find a similar way out, that way we can avoid any stragglers we may have missed," Jackson says, respond to Harukai. He then turns to Gundren.
"My friend, I am glad you are okay. Let us safely escort you to where you need to be -- a safe place -- before proceeding to the mine to find your brothers."
Harukai will pause a few moments to let the others have their say. If the consensus is as Jackson suggests, he will hop down and smooth his mage’s clothes. Retrieving his sword and wiping blood off his glass staff, he will address Nilparin, saying imperiously, “Redbrand herald, I am ready to leave this place. Let us go,” he adds, with an impish wink, then strides out the door like he owns the place...
OOC: I figure we go back the way we came, although we may decide to leave to the north if that is open to the outside and clear of enemies. I was waiting for a group consensus for leaving or clearing the rest of the castle...
The group can easily backtrack to the room where the boxes and barrels were and exit there without issue or travel back through the castle if desired, but enemies in other rooms may begin moving in response to the sound of battle from the King's room.
OOC: Is Jackson planning to allocate the treasure again?
Unless someone in the party really wants to engage the other potential enemies in the castle, Harukai is fine backtracking then leaving the castle at the earliest opening, so as not to risk Gundren’s safety—it is his default setting to protect those he escorts (per his backstory) and minimize their potential suffering. If he were here with just other capable adventurers, he would search every room and eliminate all possible threats to the region.
