I would only start the wrong way, after none of the newcomers seemed to know this was wrong, id correct.
"Well, now that we are all on the same page, we should be on the right path too. it's over this way." As i say this i notice that liet was starting to question the path we are on. "It was a test my friend, they passed, and i will trust you in this matter."
Mcfuddy will stay 15 feet in the air while leading the party down the correct path.
"I have no idea how long this will take, we are tracking something. we know its a cave, and this is leading in the direction of that mountain... however the path could turn at any point making the path longer"
After correcting the course the group begins to head toward the north following the trail. It appears to have been a deer path, however, there are many boot marks and broken branches along the way indicating recent, and consistent use by someone. The trail is easy to follow for now, and leads the group deeper and deeper into the woods. Before long the trees as large as buildings tower over you, blocking out most of the sun. The entire forest is shrouded in shadow. It does not take a ranger to notice that this part of the forest is ancient. The trees here, gnarled and rough, have survived for hundreds of years. No sign of any humans or civilization can be found, save the footprints you keep following.
As the light begins to fade, much earlier than normal considering the dense canopy, the path begins to run parallel with a small stream. As you follow the stream, a short walk later you find its source. The water comes from the mouth of a small cave, just wide and tall enough for a person to fit through. Considering the location of the cave, it doesn't appear to be the one that the man spoke of**. You haven't quite reached the foothills yet, and this does not appear to be a mine, but a natural cave. McFuddy can estimate that the foothills might be another day or so of travel.
Night is quickly approaching, though you have some light left. What do you do?
**"He describes the area as in the foothills before the big mountains, and that 'the demon' is holed up in another mine long since abandoned."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Looking towards the rock, Liet says "We will need to camp for the night. This could protect us from the weather, though we should see if anything is inside that we should worry about."He then walks towards the cave and takes a deep breath, giving a prayer of guidance to his gods. Just as he enters, and would about disappear from sight, he actually does disappear from sight as he again changes into a spider ((yay dark vision~)). He'll go into the cave 15 or so minutes and look around for any signs for life before returning back to report his findings.
The cave is empty, but fairly vast. There are several larger caverns and corridors. Despite it being empty there are many signs that it is used frequently by someone. There are sleeping bags, a firepit, some empty crates, etc... It looks like between 6-12 people could sleep in here comfortably, between the various rooms. Upon inspection, you notice one of the larger rooms also has crates with some food in it that is still edible. Not really 'fresh', but not yet gone bad.
((updated roll20 again, moving the party view to the map of the cave))
((note: it is obviously a battle map, but that doesn't necessarily mean there is a battle here. FYI. Though there COULD be...))
Returning to the group Liet will tell them what he found, adding "This is probably a camp site for those being controlled by this 'demon' when on their way to and from the mountains. It's a good place to camp, though we should definitely keep a close watch."
Liet nods, replying "I do. At least then anything that wants to surprise us can only come from outside. I've spent a good amount of time underground. It's not so bad really, once you get used to the dark."
As he looks at he cave you can see an uneasy look on his face. "Uhhh, ill camp put in this tree, and help keep a watch from here." Mcfuddy lands in a nearby tree near the top and nestles in. cuts off small branches in his way to make for a more comfortable sit."Leit, you will be safe in this cave? alone?" As he says this his eyes quickly gesture to the others in the party.
"I wont be alone. Steve, at least, here said he'll join. ((Benegol and Frenevîr maybe?)) You on the other hand will be alone out here. Stay hidden." Liet replies to McFuddy and heads into the chamber with the beds, leading Steve (and the others if they join). Liet opens his palm as a small flame appears to help light the way. Once in the chamber he, lights the fire pit, and turns to Steve (and others?) saying "It may not be much, but at least it's a bed and walls. Before we sleep though would you help me look through all the goods to see if there is anything interesting?"
To whomever is with them Liet says "you sleep. I'll watch tonight." And will light a candle and start meditating with it while the others sleep, keeping an eye out for danger.

As the party goes deeper and deeper into the forest, Frenevîr feels a little bit homesick, as the ancient trees remember him some parts of his home. But he shrugs off that feelings, he must keep focused.
"I can stay with you Liet" he offers and sit with his back leaning against the wall, and stay with Liet keeping wathc in the others rest.

survival 20 for Liet to recognize this being the (in)correct path.

"I see" says Frenevîr, apparently not having notice the little deception of McFuddy to test them.
"Ok then, you can count on me then..."
( I am assuming that the converstation between Mcfuddy and Liet was conducted in a discreet way ;) )

C’mon Fren’. Ain’t nothing to worry about after all we have been through. Let’s get some rest.
