"I could always use the extra pay myself, so we go out see what's going on try to stop it and come back?" Kevelor pats Theos' shoulder "Sounds too easy doesn't it?"
The two smiths have had this conversation more than once. Ruhkis starts to panic just a little because Nalla knows exactly which strings to pull. He decides to stall.
"Look, there are newcomers in town, right here in the Grip. One's even a soldier who looks like he's got plenty of soldiering left in him. They seem eager and capable and they could probably use the coin. Greshak will hire them, they'll save the day, and you and I both get to keep our innards where they belong."
Nalla doesn't answer at first and Ruhkis takes it as an opening to close the deal. He gets up and walks behind the bar, taking her empty mug with him. Filling it up with mead he says, "Look, you leave now and the next caravan goes out without spare wheels. There's a lot of obligation to go around and we all have a part to play."
Setting the mug in front of his fellow smithy, Ruhkis leans over the bar with a half smile. "Let the new-comers take an orc blade if they're so keen on it. We need you here at the forge."
NALLA
Nalla blushes slightly. She'd actually already completed the spare wheels last night. She needed to make sure they were done right and it took all night, but she got the level of perfection she wanted. (DM, I'm okay if you'd like to give Nalla a level of exhaustion because she didn't sleep last night) "Well, you certainly have a convincing tongue; I'm sure that's what made you such a great leader and soldier, back in the day." She lifts the mug in a toast. "To freedom and safety."
Take 1 level of exhaustion as well as an inspiration. Additionally, if you all for whatever reason use these wheels in the near future, you gain an additional percentage on distance traveled as they work so efficiently.
"I could always use the extra pay myself, so we go out see what's going on try to stop it and come back?" Kevelor pats Theos' shoulder "Sounds too easy doesn't it?"
"So you, you, and..... you?"Greshak nods at Liet. "I'm going to be honest lads, I don't think you stand much of a chance, whatever it is out there."Greshak tilts his neck to the side, issuing a loud crack... he sighs deeply, drains the rest of his ale then stands up.
"Alright fellas, I got another job..." He says as the tavern falls silent. "These three get 75 gold apiece for volunteering first. I need at least two more hired hands to help them. Anyone else that joins gets 60 gold after the job is done. And I take back what I said, I'll advance you each 10 gold to prepare to head out, so long as you leave within the hour. Any takers? I know that's more gold you sods have ever seen in person, so speak up! And I know you're all 'civilians' here, but don't think I won't order you to protect this town if no one steps up..."
"Ah jeez," Ruhkis mutters under his breath. His stomach starts turning knots. He's watched this scene play out before and knows what comes next. Lifting himself up out of his chair, the dwarf stretches. Bones and joints crack. Scar tissue pops. Eventually he slowly shuffles up to the bar and takes a seat next to Nalla.
"Another plate of food and some hard drink if you don't mind, Tadeera!"
Without even glancing a the goliath, Ruhkis says to her, "You know I'm an old dwarf, right? I've seen war and fought many an evil blight. If I were a goliath I'd be proper retired at this point. Plus, it's pretty cold outside. I got me a seat over there by the fire."
He turns to face Nalla with just a hint ofconcern on his face. "Why don't you join me at the table and we can debate closed die vs rolled ring? Let the night pass by without any drama? Tomorrow I'll come over to your shop and help you with that last batch of wagon wheels."
Nalla
Nalla's eyebrows furrow slightly, though her expression is soft. She sighs deeply, seriously considering Ruhkis's offer. "I don't know if I can," she says softly. "I want to keep working at the forge, but I can't work if there is no forge..." She looks at her glass that is still empty, making no attempt to ask for it to be filled. A small smile appears at the corner of her lips, though it doesn't affect the rest of her face. "However, I would love to hear your opinions on the matter of the dice..." She stands and looks toward the table Ruhkis mentioned, waiting for Ruhkis to lead her.
Ruhkis mutters a curse under his breath and only half-way meets Nalla's gaze as he raises his clay mug in response to her toast.
"Freedom and safety," the reluctant dwarf mumbles before draining his drink. With a loud THOK, Ruhkis slams the clay mug down on the table. Wiping the foam off his beard with the back of his hand, the dwarf shouts "Quit yer hollerin, Greshak! If your boss signs off on a couple of forges going dark, then you can count on the two of us to help." The dwarf gives Nalla a bit of a reassuring nod. "Convince the tracker in the kitchen to come along and I'll even bring my blade."
"How many times must I remind you, I don't Chirp. Also I don't want to get meddled up in your affairs." Mcfuddy squawks.
"However... the animals have been spooked lately, maybe this is the cause...or maybe this is an ambush, and I am being set up. But if this problem isn't solved, ill be out a job soon. I'll be sure to keep an eye out..." He thinks
"I'll do it, but only for full pay. I'm the best tracker you've got" he emrges from the kitchen, wrapping the cloth on his hand. He stays in the doorway. "What are the terms for this deal?"

Nalla returns the nod and stands behind Ruhkis, letting him take the lead.
Liet is listening with interest at anyone who may soon be a companion of his, both excited to make coin, and fight back against the slavers. And curious where his life will be taking him now.

Roll persuasion to get full price @mcfuddy.
"Well..."Greshak strokes his chins introspectively. "To be honest we don't know anything. To get paid you need to find out what, where, who, is causing all of the trouble. I'll need some sort of proof. Buuut, I should think that lying to the Baron, and one of the Devil's no less, should be enough to convince you to tell the truth. I wouldn't want to swindle money from the already meek coffers of Caer Blaine. Drawing the ire of the Phoenix himself is a bad idea." ((Another name for the baron, rumors have it that he is immortal, and can even transform into a giant fiery bird)).
He taps a very full coin purse at his side. "I'll pay you double if you can somehow manage to stop whatever it is, demons or men, makes no difference."
He pulls out the coin purse and starts handing out 10 gold to each of you ((add to character sheet)).
"Start walkin, fellas,"He motions towards the tavern door. "Head towards Luthaan, that's all I can tell you... good luck. And Ruhkis, I expect you to come back in one piece, I still need the hilt of that one sword re-fitted."
Taking his 10 gold, Liet feels a sense of pride well up. "Wow! I'm a solider now! Maybe I can repay those Devils that helped me escape not long ago." he thinks. To Greshak he says "Yes sir!" and attempts to salute (probably wrong).
He then walks out the door and stops, looking behind to see who is following. He may be excited to help out, but he's no leader.

((what time of day is it currently?))
"Just try not to get yourself killed, little one,"Greshak calls to Liet before plopping back down on a barstool and ordering another pint.
((Late evening, you all have to set out in the dead of night, *mwuahahahaha*))
As it's night Liet will be walking with his wooden shield (with two large spider fangs (druid spell focus) affixed to the front of it) in his left hand, and produce flame lit in his right. ((So he's essentially holding a fireball in his right hand lighting the way ^^))

McFuddy
Persuasion roll 15
McFuddy waits to be the last one out the door. as soon as we are out of the building he immediately flies up, about 10 feet, and stays at the back of the pack. Eyes straining to see, but is confident that Liet's light will light up any trees before I run into them.
"I hate to admit it, but this might not be possible without that little one's light." he thinks
"Half my life has been hunting in these woods. I flew the coop and came here, made this my hunting grounds, because there were no people around... that all changed in a dramatic way a few months ago." he says
Nalla follows the group stiffly, sticking close to Ruhkis. She almost doesn't answer Theos's question, but then, after there has been a long pause, she quietly answers: "I was one of the slaves, brought here a couple months ago. I work at the East Forge."
Theos nods sagely. He hadn't experienced the same treatment as the goliath, but he had experienced a similarly painful past. One which he'd rather not speak of.
Liet listening, ((he's a good listener)) looks back at Nalla and thinks to himself "I wonder if I ever saw her while trying to survive in the slave caves..."
((I guess we've all started marching yeah? What's the order? Liet is fine being up front, though he doesn't have dark vision, he thinks himself a scout))
"I could always use the extra pay myself, so we go out see what's going on try to stop it and come back?" Kevelor pats Theos' shoulder "Sounds too easy doesn't it?"
