He eyed the little fireball in Naeris's hand and gave an appreciative nod. "That might come in handy when things get a little out of control," he said as he put a hand on the pommel of his sword. Then he nodded to the dwarf, "well met Master Dwarf. Three is almost always better than two, and we could use the help," then turning over to the undead barkeep, "so this boat. Mind taking us to it?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As he follows the Barkeep out the back of the tavern, he looks at the tavern, then to the surrounding area. His eyes narrow when the undead man says he's the best pilot in the place and a little bit of unease begins to settle within Derathos. Turning to the barkeep he looks him over trying to see if there's anything too off about him.
Following the group to his surview maklindek notices one of the guys a fire making type and the other has a sword, Maklindek is no stranger to the fairy magic and says with a little dust he can be of help as a healer.
The Barkeep seems pretty normal, aside from the undeath thing. However, you are reminded somewhat of Charon, ferryman of the dead. He doesn't seem to have any ulterior motive.
As the party exits the tavern they are surprised to find a short, slender Tabaxi near the raft. dropping a mooring line, "Well hello! ahem, finally someone came to my assistance. um who is the captain of this vessel? I am Remy Rae from far away. I am exploring these swamps and much prefer not to wet my tail. Coin to any of you gentleman that can assist me. Or rather, where are we going?"
Remy is short for a Tabaxi at little over 5' 4" but a bit more filled out. She appears athletic and looks like a mountain lion walking on two legs with a rather long tail. She wears worn leather armor with a rapier at her side and several knives and daggers sheathed in her vest. Each of her ears are pierced with a single raven feather attached to a thin silver ring. She smiles often and it never seems forced
"Well this is ominous." Naeris wasn't necessarily fond of the idea of sailing in a haunted mist filled swamp with an undead bartender, but he had already decided on investigating the swamp. "But, no point in turning back now." He boarded to ready and grabbed pole. "Derathos, Maklindek."
Finding nothing particularly wary about the bartender, he gave a shrug and stepped onto the boat and grabbed one of the poles, an eye going over to the tabaxi. "Welcome, Remy Rae," he said turning to her, "our little group here is going over to investigate a haunted house of sorts. If you've got nothing better to do in this dread place, we could use the help."
"Why thank you. I'm here for an investigation of sorts as it is. I hear these mysterious ruins may hold some... well secrets. So what of this haunted house?"
The Tabaxi helps un-dock the vessel and grabs a pole.
"Ballantine house. Many years ago, the family matriarch went crazy, killed the whole family. Town decided cut the house off of the town and sent it adrift. I'm ferrying these gentlemen over there. As for ruins, these swamps are full of them."
Maklindek agree's to go on the boat, and picks up a pole. He nods at the tabaxi when she says theres a mysteries to learn about, Maklindek says, "I'll go along until we meet those weird guards I saw the other night then if we don't have some fairy dust I'll see about doing what my name implies and walk away mystery abound or not."
Derathos plunges his pole into the water and looks around. "Right, well might as well get this done with, right?" He says with a slight grin. "Don't want any curious creatures under these waters jumping up at us."
"Ugh." Naeris quietly complained as he struggled with the pole. He didn't mind normal traveling or combat, but straight manual labor was not his strong suit. He considered just pretending to use the pole, but it would not end well if the other's found out, so he kept pushing.
When Remy spoke he initially just wanted ignore her, but maybe conversation could be a nice distraction. "None of us are entirely sure, maybe it'll house family treasures, maybe it'll be an Owlbear nest, but whatever it is, hopefully it'll be more exciting than sailing this raft."
"Whatever you find there, I demand a cut of the loot."
Suddenly, a strange-looking little spiny winged creature lands on a nearby branch and says something to Barkeep in some stramge language (Infernal, roughly translated as: "wuddup, home skillet?")
The barkeep replies in the same strange tongue (infernal: "very little. I'm ferrying these mortals over to the old marsh house. Come back later, though. I'm busy.")
Naeris' red eyes went wide when the creature and the barkeep started speaking in infernal, although he would hate to admit it, he understood what they said. He quickly shook his head and regained his composure hoping no one noticed his shock, and after clearing his throat he said. "Is that thing common in these parts?"

"I shall. After all, I'm the town's best boat pilot."
He opens a door behind the bar and heads out behind the bar.
The boat itself is a 20' by 10' raft, basically. Barkeep has a 10' pole in hand, and there are several more poles on board.

"Hmmmm Ballantine... ballentine... How has the house not succumbed to the swamp yet? Just the floats? What if the swamp drains low?"
