"Excuse me, my dear. Don't mean to interrupt." Puck says softly as he approaches the young elf. "Would you happen to know a man by the name of Sildar?"
Puck starts eyeing the books she is holding. "My friend and I have been searching for him all morning--and I was hoping Lady Luck might be able to share some of her good graces and help us out."
Nene, Kara, and Grimm are all led inside the farmhouse… utilitarian in its design but also quite homey and comfortable. The simplicity and warmth makes the place feel like a home away from home… or for those who didn’t have a home growing up, perhaps what you think a home should feel like. Carp shrugs and winks at Grimm as they are led inside, a precocious lad indeed this one. “Carp, see our guests to the sitting room. I’ll bring some cool water.”
Despite the shorter ceilings, this home was designed to accommodate those beyond the smaller folk as well. Even several pieces of furniture are sized for those larger than halfling stature. As you take your seats, Carp stares openly in awe at all three of the very colorful adventurers sitting in his home. After a few moments Qelline returns with a large clay jug and several clay mugs that she passes around and fills with clean, clear water. As she takes hear she stares at her son expectantly with eyebrows raised.
Carp swallows and chuckles awkwardly as he tries to avoid his mother’s stare. He tries to start a few times, stammering the first few words before stopping at the subtle shifts on his mother’s face which indicates she wasn’t buying any of the manure he was trying to sell her. He takes another deep drink of the refreshing water and lets out a heavy sigh. “Okay, so I was playin’ in the woods near The Manor. I know ma! I ain’t supposed to go around there, but I was there and found a secret tunnel. I was gonna go investigate it for treasure to I could buy me a sword when all the sudden a couple of these big ugly bandits came outta the tunnel! I made sure to hide, cause I knew they was trouble and I didn’t have my sling with me,” He gives the ladies a knowing glance. “They waited around for a few minutes and then some of them Redbrand fellahs showed up and they had a meeting’ right there. I tried to get close to hear what they was saying’ but I must’ve spooked ‘em, because they all turned to look where I was. I don’t think they saw me, because they didn’t come after me and I got out of there just as fast as I could. I think they might have a hideout under the Manor! I could show you where it is!”
Qelline looks measures but upset by this news. “Boy, I appreciate your honesty, but if I catch you near that Manor again…”
“Mama, I ain’t scared of them ruffians! I bet I could kill ‘em all with my sling from the roof!”
“You should be scared! Remember what happened to Thel?! And that was just because he told them off! You stay away from them, you hear me!” The mention of Thel’s murder does seem to cool Carp’s blood a bit and he sits back further into his chair and stares down into his cup. Qelline looks back at you all. “Why are you all so interested in these men?”
"It has come to our understanding that a girl a family from the town has been kidnapped by these ruffians, and truthfully, if they are so brazen as to do something like that, then there are other evils they may commit. We hope to put a stop to this growing problem in this fair countryside before it becomes too much for even the local authorities to control,"Kara answers with a gentle voice, but stern tone. "We can guarantee the safety of your boy. He will only lead us close enough for us to find this secret entrance ourselves. You have my word as an Ilmatari."

Nene breathes a sigh of relief when they enter the cool farmhouse. Being from the mountains, she does not feel comfortable in this heat. She thanks Qelline for the water, and playfully nudges Carp with her tail as she passes him. After listening to his story, she adds to Kara's response: "We want to help, Toblen told us that Thel was killed and his family taken. We've already run into some goblins here and you should have seen how they took them down, they are really good fighters! Those bandits won't stand a chance!" Looking around, Nene thinks out loud: "You have a lovely home here. But why are you working the field in this heat, you should get your husband to do that!"
"Simply put," adds Grimm, "we're going to do what young Carp wanted to do by himself."
She then addresses Kara, "Although I'm sure we could guarantee his safety, I'm sure Qelline would prefer Carp not accompanying us. Perhaps between Carp, Qelline and the three of us, we can draw out an accurate map."
The young elf glances up at you both as you approach, smiling happily, but looking a little worn out. She slips a placeholder in the book, closes it, and sets it aside before Puck has an opportunity to get a closer look. "Welcome, both of you to the Shrine of Luck! I am Sister Garaele." She thinks for a moment. "Sildar? No, cannot say that I have heard of him before. Is he a resident here in Phandalin?" (Assuming one of you tell her that he is not a residence and provide a description of him.)"Oh! Yes, I did see him on the streets this morning. He was heading south, but I did not see exactly where he went from there. If I see him again should I tell him you're looking for him?"
Qelline's eyes widen at Kara's suggestion and before she can speak, Grimm eases her concerns. "Yes, I think a map would suffice. My boy is not going anywhere near those murderers again." She looks directly at her son while she speaks. "That understood, young man?"
Carp's eyes find something very interesting on the carpet. "Yes, ma'am."
Qelline nods in appeasement. "Good, now tell these ladies where they can find this entrance. I'll get you some chalk." She stands and fans herself a moment, listening to Nene's words. She suddenly lets out a bark of laughter. "Sweetie, I don't have a husband. Just me and Carp. My daddy left me this farm, because my older brother thought it smart to seek his fortune as one of you." She nods towards your weapons. "Got word a few months later he was knifed in Waterdeep. I went to collect his body to bring him home, met some fancy talker there... me being a silly girl from the backwaters I didn't know any better. Ended up with Carp. Daddy sent me back to Waterdeep, that man took one look at my swollen belly and bolted, never seen him again since." She takes a sip of the cool water. "Good riddance. He was a waste of space that man. Had hands softer a baby he did. Now, if you'll excuse me."
She leaves the room and returns shortly with a small blackboard and some chalk. "Carp, you help these fine folks as best you can, but I'm telling you... do not follow them. These men will cut you down, boy. They already killed a man. You think they won't do the same to a little boy? I met folks as these... they'd probably tie you to a tree and make sport out of it. Use you as a target practice for their throwing knives for a while until they tired of hearing you whimper and cry."
Carp's nods to him mother as he takes the blackboard. He gives you a very detailed description on where he located the hidden entrance, drawing you a little map upon the blackboard that can easily be copied or replicated. "Just be careful, there's a lot of dry wood right now with the heat and they might hear you approaching if someone is outside."
“Shrine of luck? We could probably use some of that!” Zanigur smiles at Garaele. “Thank you for the information, sister. May I ask; do you give blessings? On behalf of Tymora?”
Using a piece of the many blank scrolls Grimm keeps on her for her rites and rituals, Grimm reproduces Carp's map.
"Thank you, the both of you," Grimm says, before turning to Carp and continuing, "I hope you keep your spirit, but if you adventure wisely, you can do so safely and allow your mom to sleep at night."
Grimm gently pats Carp on the head before rolling up the scroll and excusing herself outside.
Nene laughs alongside Qelline: "A man with soft hands is no good, I agree with you! We'll be careful." She looks at Carp's map at nods at him encouragingly. "Thank you, this is exactly what we needed. Do you have any tips for how to best sneak up there?" As Grimm leaves, Nene thanks Qelline for her hospitality and waits to see if Carp has any last advice. She looks over at Kara and smiles, excited for another adventure.
Sister Garaele returns Zanigur's handsome smile. "Why of course! Our Lady will always shine her blessings upon those that seek her fortune." She hops down from her perch to come closer, stopping briefly at Puck's question. "Well, there's several landmarks south of here, I suppose. There's the Miner Exchange and the Miner's Path. There's Lioncosters there," she gestures vaguely. "And the town hall over yonder. There's Qelline's farm and the wooded area near the Manor. Even the Townmaster's Hall. It's not a large town, I'm sure you will find him soon. If I see him though, I will let him know that you are looking for him. What names should I give?"
Carp grins at the trope of dangerous women in his home, staring at each of you with a wonder that only children can seem to hold onto. "Yes, ma'am! I'll be more responsible, I will! Are you all going to be stayin' in Phandalin long? I'd like to hear some stories maybe?"
Qelline stands and escorts you all out into the blistering heat of the day once more. The sun is bright and the humidity is oppressive as it can only be during the high of summer. Where to now?
In reply to Nene's question, Kara strokes her chin in thought. She seems to be thinking hard as she says, "You know, such things are outside my area of expertise. If you don't have any ideas... perhaps Mister Puck will?"

Grimm waves at the halfling family as they depart.
She then turns to the others and says, "Perhaps we should find the gentlemen and let them know what we found. I'm sure there is some housekeeping to resolve in town before delving deeper into this bandit situation."
“Zanigur, of Thundtree,” says the bard, bowing low and rising to smile as Sister Garele. He gestures briefly over to his side, “And this is my partner, Puck.”
