Sim moves with the commander keeping him in sight and lines up another shot. While speaking to him in Goblin “You run from a fight? I thought mighty warriors don’t fear death. Your mother would be embarrassed to have had you crawl out of her. Come face your future like a man.”
Sim's arrow pierces through the goblin's chain shirt before he has the ability to say anything. His form crawling a foot or two before expiring and collapsing on to the ground.
His equipment is mostly ruined. A handful of copper coins (12), and a scimitar that's crude. His shield, however, is not of goblin origin. The wood has some kind of unique grain to it. A picture burned into the front, of five druids standing around a tree, and small marks in some language across the outer rim. It catches Diadochi's light in a unique way. Seeming to have a sheen to it that is not natural.
The rest of the barracks is covered in small rope hammocks. It looks like it could sleep at least twenty. A few other crude scimitars, and stone made daggers line the walls. A handful of shields, but nothing of value. Down near the bottom and up high, small tunnels that lead into the mountain. But you're all far too big to fit in them without high risk of getting stuck.
Yaalin picks up the shield examining it closely 19 (history or religion) to recognize the symbols. Before showing it to Lathefa, "anything familiar to you? I like its look and would like to use it but if it means something to anyone else I will not contest it."
She will hand the shield to anyone who asks for it but otherwise will slide it on her arm trying it for heft.
"Where to chaps? I cannot go much further and don't all me to try a little tunnel. "
Yaalin, you take a good look at the shield. The symbols are some kind of language. It's a bit of a older form of primordial. At least one third of it. (Lafetha will recognize that another third, saying the same thing, is written in Druidic.)

(Wandering Monster Roll: 2, if 18+ 2)
The group doesn’t hear much during the short rest. Sim toys with the shield, studying and focusing on it. (Yeth’s Shield is a +1 Shield)
Getting back on your feet... you still have the remainder of the caves to explore. Right now, there’s just the sounds of clicks and other things crawling in the dark, but nothing visible.
Diadochi for the rest Diadochi walks the perimeter and takes a deep breathe. 6. He notices Yaalin start to leave, "Oh yes of course" and hurries to stay by Yaalin's side.
The group makes their way down the one corridor that didn’t have any known noises.....
It remains that way. A few sneaking and scouting. The rock walls smoother in this area. Some of them having a few more bits of whatever used to be here. Bits of a mosaic still lingering - but too few and far between to make sense of what it once was.
In the middle of two chambers stands a statue of a person made from marble. It’s about ten feet tall, and partly embedded in the rock. Toes and a bent knee seeming to emerge from the stone where it should be. The torso leaning out making up the bulk of the statue, wearing a cloak that covers a featureless face: no eyes, no nose, no ears. Just smooth. Stone hair does hang down the sides of it’s face. It’s thin arm is outstretched, long fingers clutching around what seems like a glass sphere.
Quietly, inside each of you, a voice calls. Sounding so very far far away. A familiar voice, of someone that once took care of you. “Travelers. Take rest under my watch. But I ask. What do you seek?”
The glass sphere seems to fill with a dark haze. As each of you look upon it, you see.....
(Each character can describe what they see as the voice asks “what do you seek?”)
Yaalin approaches the statue, her hand reaching out and grazing the surface of the exposed work and stopping just short of actually touching the glass sphere.((history to know more 18))
Then in a whisper that seems to echo across the room "I seek my final story. One worthy of the telling of the great sages. I seek to leave my children and my people a legacy rich with history and pride. I seek my own truth before my final swim...."
She turns from the sphere glancing back at the misty images of family lost. A male Tortle reaching a hand out as if beckoning her to join him tears begin to silently drop from her eyes.
Sim stares curiously at the sphere he is sure it is speaking to him. Suddenly a vision of his past plays through his mind, memories of a past full of uncertainty and fear. Fear of being found out. “I want to find peace and acceptance. I want to unify my people and create a safe haven for all of my kind. Where we no longer have to hide. And I don’t want to but if needed I will fight to stop the injustice they suffer.”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Diadochi looks at the statue "I seem to recall a forest people that had a tale of a tall, faceless man, but he was less into orbs more into ... stealing children." history15 .
When he hears the voice he says quietly "I wish for redemption, not just for me but for my family." He sees a lavish dinner with his legions of family members, everyone is smiling and talking.
As the one who recognized the statue in the town with the runestones, you find this statue to be made of similar composition, but not worn down from the elements and passage of time. It is a statue of Jeshur. Of the God Jeshur; the God of Travelers and a god of Trickery. Who would give good fortune and bring ruin. You think something happened that made the statue merge with the stone around, but you’re not sure what.
Diadochi...
This could be one and the same. You recall the stories of old, that were passed down from long ago and retold many times. A traveler from far away who came to town. The traveler always spent time with the children. The stories change depending on which retelling of the story. Some say the traveler was wronged, so he took the children from the town. Others say the traveler came and did something to the children, and was run out of town after the traveler’s grisly secrets were found out. This could be that. Although, other times the traveler was a old crone. Or a hag. Or a witch.
Sim...
You look at the ball as the memory plays. The magic you feel coming from it, the speaking that comes from far away. Something about this is magical... after seeing the vision in the orb.. you don’t think that the orb itself is magical. Rather just a focal point, enabling whatever was speaking to contact you.
As they come into the room Abigail becomes interested in the orb and statue, but is drawn into the orb before she can investigate further.
Abigail's back hits the deck of the Abyssal Dreadnought for the fourth time in just as many minutes. Jane the Brute smirks down at her, "Remind me to never have you protecting my flanks Wildcat. Not sure what you are good at, beyond drinking."
"She is a fine sneak and lock pick, Jane. Two things you would know little about." Syrabina's voice lifted Abigail's spirit like a fresh wind catching the sails. The captain continued, "We all have our role on this ship, and you each have skills I have need of. So, please try to respect my choice of crewwomen."
Syrabina lends a hand to Abigail, pulling her to her feet. "I have gotten you this far, haven't I? I am not asking that you make her into a warrior, just train her to survive long enough for you all to finish everyone else off."
Just before Abigail's vision ends, she has a sudden flashback of the Dreadnought engulfed in flames, a larger black ship with a the chest to head of a dragon etched onto the front bow floats before her; the dragon's wings stretch, etched into the starboard and port bows, giving the perception of a dragon swooping across the water toward you. An ocean wave splashes over Abigail's vision as she comes to.
"I see a helping hand from one of the greatest pirates I have ever known." Abigail sighs.
As they all stood, quietly whispering, saying, thinking... the voice once again called back.
~Travelers. You are all weary. Rest your feet and forget your worries. And when you feel ready, go out upon the world once more. To fulfill your quests.~
The haze within the orb fades. Leaving just the statue holding the orb. (Sim, Abigail, Yaalin, Diadochi all gain the benefit of a LONG REST without taking it, and +10 Tempory Hitpoints that will vanish within 24 hours)
Abigail, still in a rage, pounces upon the goblin commander; becoming even more infuriated when her blades miss their mark.

Sim points down the other way toward 7 and says “Abigail want to scout ahead for us?”

Yaalin failing to hear anyone ask for the shield slides it in place of her other shield and puts the spare over her back.
