Sim nods at Diadochi’s suggestions. “Based upon the fighting last night you told me about it may be Alul is our best chance at finding her. But we need to move fast if we are going to beat Sora-ha.” Along the way back to Orta’s Sim will look for tracks that could be the girl’s and try to erase them if needed to slow down Sora.
"Well, not exactly the way I wanted to have this conversation, but I suppose it will have to do. First things first, do you know if there is a way for the girl to reverse her condition or learn how to control it? Because, if the answer is, 'No,' then the girl is not safe outside of this hut - if at all. Second, and I cannot believe the irony of me being to one asking you this, are you still actively looking to get back at the Hn'ti?"
Alul's ears twitch and turn as he looks over at Abgail. A smile forming on the corner of his lips as he sees her. "Ah, well, a friendly face."
The daughter doesn't react nearly as well, seeing that both Alul - who she seems terrified of - and Abigail know each other.
Alul listens, his face twisting a bit in the conversation. "Control, yes. But that comes with time," his clawed hand reaches out towards her, but she backs away, taking in sharp and shallow breaths. "Because this gift, without control, this is just a curse. Why is she not safe?" after hearing the answer from Abigail (you can chose to either tell him the truth, or attempt to lie.) "And of course. My revenge is has not yet been sedated." He states, eyes narrowing a bit. "You're asking for a reason though. What is it."
Sim & Diadochi:
You approach the hut after a brisk walk. While there are clearly footprints and tracks, most of them are busy being ruined by Orta herself. Outside her hut with hands deep in the mud, pulling out mushrooms and other strange bits of fungus. Placing them into the folds of her old robes. That yellow eye glancing through the wicker mask over at both of you as you approach.
"Watch your step!" she shouts. She mutters something again under her breath in native tongue.
Orta shoves them both Sim and Diadochi, reaching down near their feet, grabbing a few mushrooms. She turns to Sim for a second, taking a deep wiff of him. "You don't smell like you look." She then turns and looks up at Diadochi, making some kind of sound of disgust.
"Your cat friend is wrapping up her conversation inside, and I have to begin my work." She begins to head towards her hut, "And before you come to my door again know I do not suffer failures. And you all have yet to bring me a head. Or anything of value." She spits on the ground. "Just more problems...." she mutters a few words after that but the language has shifted. Her body hunched over as she grumbles.
Abigail, it's towards the end of your conversation that you hear Sim outside chatting with Orta. Then the sounds of her feet hitting the mud and floor. Glasses being rummaged through while she places mushrooms down on the shelves. "Hurry and begone. Too much fur inside here. Not good for anyone's health." She grumbles rather loudly.
Sim, looking around and digging in the mud a bit you notice a handful of mushrooms seemingly growing out of the mud. Some have these faint blue spots on them. A few have some red spots on them.
Abigail tells Alul the truth of the girls hunt and kill status, telling the that she is not here to hurt her, but she is sorry about her predicament. "You probably should just hang out here, if Orta will let you."
"We attempted to sneak into the Hn'ti camp to kill the leader, but ended up barely making it out of there alive... In order for us to obtain Orta's supposed key, we need to bring back his head. We cannot defeat the Hn'ti leader on our own, and it was suggested that we ask you if you would join us in our quest to relieve the leader of his head. To be absolutely honest, I have resisted even making such an offer to you, since I am not keen on working with someone who is looking to harm children." Abigail glances at the girl, "Still, at this point, I am not even sure with your aid we could kill the leader and make it out of there alive; however, with you I think we at least have a chance. If your desire for vengeance is still strong enough to join us, then I would be willing to work with you - and the rest of my party - if we could come to terms in respects to the scope of your violence."
"I don't know if Orta will let her stay," Alul laments. "It's at least worth the asking, with her being in so much danger." Alul and Abigail continue to talk, discussing the fight and the raid on the town. During their conversation, something seems to click. A smile pulling at his lips while his pupils grow in some kind of excitement. "Well. I can agree to that. We will take what we need from the Hn'ti, but if any of them physically stand before us in this task, I get to attack them. I won't purposely go out of my way to strike my revenge on them."
Hearing Orta come back inside, Alul heads over. The two having some kind of conversation in sylvan. This time, Abigail, despite some strong sounding words it's clear that Alul is very submissive in their relationship. He looks back, talking more to the daughter than to Abigail. "You can stay here. And you'll be safe. But it won't be a comfortable night. So if you do venture off, go away from your instincts once your senses become yours again." He shakes his head just a bit, gathering a few little trinkets and packing a pouch full of components. "New children are always the worst," he mutters to himself before heading outside.
Abigail, as you begin to leave, Orta grabs your hand. Pulling you close to her; the strength of the pull seemingly unnatural for a woman of her size. "Find out if that girl killed, and ate, a human. If she did not, come tell me before the moon rises in the night sky. I can reverse her current position in life. But don't tell Alul. He's too stupid to understand." She releases you as you head out the door.
Upon heading outside, you notice Sim and Diadochi looking at some of the mushrooms in the ground that Orta was digging up. The sounds of footsteps approaching as Lafetha can be seen over in the distance. The bone cracking and muscle twisting sounds as Alul becomes the mountain lion you first saw him as, rather than his man-lion-self.
What do you do?
Yaalin (Day 4)
Your little base camp serves as a shelter against the elements, giving you a day of rest. Unfortunately, as you venture out and around for the majority of the day - you do not find any sources of food or water that would keep you fed. Some beetles and a handful of plants that add a bit of water and some needed protein and spice to the rations. But nothing that will assist you long term. Luckily, both the day and evening are uneventful besides the cold.
Prior to finishing their conversation, Abigail agrees that she will not stop Alul from engaging those that attempt to stop them on their way in and out of the village; however, she does express that she will attempt to stop him if he starts hunting down the children and non-combatant families of the village immediately after killing their leadership.
"How fortunate for me that I do not need to come and find you all." Abigail approaches Diadochi and Sim ((I assume Lafetha is also generally there too)), "I believe that Alul and I have come to at least a partial agreement in order to work together. He is willing to join us in order to meet out some of his vengeance, at the cost of reigning in his slaughter to only those that stand between us, the leadership of the Hn'ti, and our way out of the village. So, we may have the strength to mount a second attempt. It seems like Orta is still rather set on that being the only way to obtain this supposed key." She pauses for a moment, clearly weighing something in her mind, before continuing, "I think I am going to head back to camp to restock on supplies before telling Cora though."
Diadochi opens his mouth, he then sees a future in which he says "you mean like I wanted to do in the first place?" He realizes that it helps no one and instead says, "very good, we were hoping to find Alul to ask about the location of lady Jacobsen, did he mention of he knew where she was? We need to find her before Sora does."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As Alul emerges Sim will approach him and greet him. “Alul I am glad to see you. I need to find the girl from our caravan who took care of you when you were hurt. She is a desperate danger and I must find her before others who want to kill her do. Will you tell me if you know where she is and where she is please.”
Abigail heads off after speaking. During her hour long trek back to camp she does notice Sora-ha on a horse off in the distance. Upon arriving at the camp, you do see Eshe giving Mr. Jacobsen some of Mama's stew. Bandages are wrapped around his chest and stomach, but seems to be alright. Not dead, no bite marks. Mama looks over from her spot as lookout, giving Abigail a small nod. "Good to see yer still breathin'," she states.
Lafetha walks up while Alul is transforming and Sim is talking to him. He doesn't say much, but his head does nod towards Orta's hut. The door having been closed when they left - suggesting she's inside. But he also begins to walk away from the hut, his head motioning for others to follow.
(For those that follow Alul, he begins to skulk around the premiter of town, trying to get outside without calling much attention to himself.)
Orta's muttering can be loosely heard for a moment, before some silence. Only the steam rising from the windows and seeps in the roof from the difference of her humid house and the outside air.
What do you do?
Yaalin (Day 5)
As you set out during the day, a few wrong turns and a sudden fall leave you down into a ravine. The packets of ice not quite as strong as they once were, forcing you to navigate along different ridges. After another long day of travel, you set down to rest. Nothing truly happens during the day or the evening. Once again relying on your spells for water, and rations to keep you alive.
