Despite Gwyn's excellent lookout, the group is surprised by three phase spiders. Luckily, in the Phase Spider's surprise round, they are rather clumsy, with one biting its own foreleg as it goes for Jener, and the other two miss Roberta and Gwyn. The players win initiative.
The Sparrow would be lying if he said that he wasn't surprised when the massive white spiders appeared out of nowhere, but... he was also surprised by how terrible their first impression was. The one in front of him was gnawing on its own leg, for crying out loud! He swiftly pulled out his crossbow and uttered a prayer to Leplyth, Mistress of the Zephyrus Wood: "Please help me guide my bolts true..." Having successfully refocused his mind, he loaded his crossbow, took aim, and shot the arachnid in the face at point-blank range. "I'll do what natural selection has chosen not to, fool!"
(OOC: Psychic Focus is Currenty on the Nomadic Arrow Discipline, Attacking Phase Spider 1)
Gwyn danced forward, a blur of wind and steal. Her shortsword glanced off of the phase spider's hide, but the dagger found a soft spot in its natural armor. Just as quickly as she had come forward, the rogue ran back, just out of reach.
Yvertal, though suprised by the sudden appearence of the spiders, stands his ground and draws his pistol. He fires at the closest one who suprisingly dodges his shot even though moments earlier it had bit it's own leg. Annoyed, Yvertal holsters his pistol and unsheaths his sword in his other hand and lunges at the spider with lightning speed and cuts deep into it's abdomen.
(OOC: PS1 takes 10 slashing damage.)

The phase spiders do a little better as soon as they begin to take damage. Phase spider one manages to land a hit on its most recent attacker, while the other two miss their previous targets. Two of them seem to disappear, Phasing to the ethereal plane (Phase Spider 3 remains on the material plane).

"Gah!" Yvertal cries out as the spider in front of him bites him hard though his armor, he goes back in to attack but realizes that the spider has vanished.
He then turns his attention to the one spider still visible and charges at hit unsheathing his second sword. Yvertal brings both shortswords down upon it and lands 2 strong blows to the side of it's abdomen, it's flowing blue blood steaming down to its white underside.
Gwyn's shortsword, again, failed to make its mark. However, she was able to stab her dagger directly into the spider's eye before darting backwards again. (OOC: 7 damage)
Two of the spiders had disappeared and if they were sensible they would stay away. The gnome honestly doubted that they would be bright enough to do so, and quickly formed a small plan. "You guys keep beating that one down, I'll try to lure the other two away!" He shouted, partially so that they didn't think he was running off doing nothing. He shifted his internal focus a bit as he moved, toughening up his skin slightly- after seeing what the spider he had shot did to Yvertal, he didn't want to be taking any more risks than necessary. Once he was ready and in position, he made to help his allies in a more direct manner and attempted to stab into the foul creature's mind- and was blocked out completely. 'What in Lepylth's name? I expected that to easily disrupt the beast!'

Kelrah was having a bad day. "First that guy in the inn swiped half my gold, next a thief robs a magic shop while I'm there, and then I get blamed for it after I helped stop the thief. And then I somehow lose the path! I swear, if one more thing happens today, I'll-" Kelrah stepped out of the brush and onto the path, where he was met with the sight of the party engaged with the Phase Spider. ".... I'll stab something. That's it." The Aasimar drew his only memento of his beloved, the Lunar Blade, and hefted his shield. "You. Spider. You're mine."
Kelrah placed his Hexblade's Curse upon the spider, marking it as his target. A ghostly aura surrounded both him and the Phase Spider, before vanishing as Kelrah charged forward. He swung his Lunar Blade, ready to impale it within the Phase Spider. As his blade moved forward, he felt his natural bad luck try to shift it away from its mark. "Oh no you don't," Kelrah muttered, forcing it back. His blade struck true; it pierced through the Spider's side, cleaving it in two. "Ha! Take that, cursed luck! And take that, ya dumb spider!" Kelrah withdrew his blade, triumphing in his kill.
[OOC: 11 to hit, plus 6 from hero point. 9 damage, attack with Lunar Blade (longsword stats). Hexblade's Curse placed. Target for all of these: PS3.]
The two phase spiders pop back into existence as the other falls, and attack. Phase spider one misses Yvertal marvellously (though manages to move its leg out of the way). Phase spider two is more successful in hitting Kelrah, but its fangs bounce off of his armour harmlessly.

Just as the spiders' disappearance was unexpected, so to was the sudden appearance of a very frustrated individual. The Sparrow was't exactly sure what the aura the swordsman had created was, but it did seem to do wonders- within seconds of the new combatant's arrival, the remaining spider was cleaved in two. Just as the gnome had predicted, the first two spiders weren't really gone, but... neither of them followed him, either. "Okay, if that's how you're gonna play it..." he grumbled as he took aim at the one that still had a bolt in its face. "...Then you should try blocking this!" He pulled the trigger and watched the bolt fly true. "Just as I thought. Shame the bugger's still kickin', however."
(OOC: Shooting PS1 with my crossbow (19 rolled) for 9 damage)
As Roberta pops back, she incants another spell and a turbulent red flame erupts from her outstretched hand and in a burst of flame, it strikes the remaining spider and engulfs it with fire. (ps1 is dead, 9 dmg)
"Ah, that felt good," Kelrah laughed, estatic to have something he wasn't bad at. Just then, something thudded into his shield. "Huh?" He turned to see another Phase Spider, freshly returned from the Astral Plane, attempting to bite him. "Really? I thought there was just one," Kelrah grumbled, shifting his stance. "What a pain," he muttered, engaging the Divine Smite ability he gained from his Paladin training. As a burst of divine flame lept from his blade as once more, the Phase Spider fell.
"Well, that was easy," Kelrah said aloud, wiping his blade with a rag he kept for the express purpose. He faced the party, shifted his weight to one leg, and asked, "So, are there any more of these things?" He indicated the corpse of the Phase Spider that lay at his feet with a kick to the head.

With the threat eliminated the party will march on, with Kelrah joining them, the promise of money tempting him. After a couple of hours pass, you find a suitable spot to set up camp - and just as well, for the sun you all see (the original one) has just set. Use this time to chat and be merry, before you head out in the morning.

"So," Kelrah began, addressing the company as a whole. "I know that you guys are going after orcs and all, but I was wondering if any of you have heard of a Seer or a Seeker or something like that in these parts? I'm kind of on a revenge quest of my own," he finished, glancing up at the shattered moon. Kelrah's hand gripped the hilt of the Lunar Blade, almost reflexively.
After the group set up camp, Yvertal hunkerd down by his own bedrool and began to sharpen his swords and clean his gun.
He turns to Kelrah, "This Seer have a name? I don't know the word around these parts, but it's possible I've heard the name. Also speaking of names, I don't believe we caught yours, unless you just want to be called by your looks." Yvertal is quite interested in learning more of this other of his kin, having rarely met other aasimar.

I think he could help me out on my personal matter. Speaking of names, don't believe I actually heard any of yours. Just heard about the job and all." Kelrah shrugged. "I don't suppose you have the same curse I do, by chance?" He directed his last statement at Yvertal, similarly not being entirely aquainted with the variations on Aasimar.
