THE HISTORY OF THE ETERNAL WAR
Atlas has always been a continent divided. When the first ancestors of the great races rose from the primeval mud, the gods fought to claim them as their own. Some races fell under the sway of the dark gods, such as the orcs, goblins, and giants, while others were embraced by the gods of light, such as the humans, halflings, elves, and dwarves. Driven by their respective gods, the legions of darkness and the army of light fight for dominance in a land of blood. Centuries of unceasing warfare has left little opportunity for technological advancement, and cities are few and far between. The majority of Atlas' population reside in and around castles and strongholds for maximum protection. One can scarcely travel a dozen miles without sighting an army encampment, and children battle with wooden swords before they can even walk. Razed villages and leveled towns stand grim testament to the terrible cost of war. When the dust settles and the smoke clears, only one side will claim victory.
In the Recruitment and News Thread, you will find the Hall of Heroes, Casualties of War, Recruitment Notices, and the latest news from the War Letters.
As Corrin begins to drag back the lumber, the young man who was watching Tusk is shaken out of his reverie, and simply nods before turning around and helping take lumber back to camp. The snake manages to slip out of Tusk's grasp and slither off, disappearing into the underbrush. Ledmo sees the man blink as he turns, and while it may be a trick of the light, his eyelids definitely slid horizontally instead of sideways, right?
Greensparrow looks over at Pheara, taken slightly aback by her introduction. A moment passes as he registers what she said. "Oh. Yes, all recruits are welcome. I'll have Hugs show you around once he gets back with the lumber crew." Sitting up, Greensparrow looks Pheara over. Nodding at the spear, he says, "Pardon me for asking, but did you want us to get you a spear forged? If you want to keep that one, I understand."
Pheara looks up to the Captain and looks at him quizzically for a moment, clearly taking in his words and searching for the full meaning in all the words he spoke. After a few seconds she stands and holds the spear out at her side before speaking “Spear be symbol, shows me hunter.” She then suddenly shape-shifts into a far more savage version of herself, striped hair covering a lot of her body and her feline features are now much more exaggerated and have taken on a far more wild and predatory look. Baring sharp teeth that appear to be coated in some sort of acidic substance she says “Not need weapon, Pheara knows how to fight.” before shifting back to her normal form.
She smiles widely to Greensparrow now, which is unsettling given her strange mannerisms, although it is clear she means to put him at ease. “Pheara wait for Chieftain’s second...this Hogs? Pheara make Chieftain proud.” She then bows one last time before heading outside the tent and then simply waits at the entrance to it for whoever is to come and meet her.

Lumber Site
Ledmo cocked his head slightly, the bushy red brows scrunching over his sharp green gaze. There were many curiosities in the land, and the dwarf knew what it was to be judged wrongly by those who knew nothing of him. Still, suspicion grew in his mind like an ember to small flickering flame. So, as the others were moving to draw off the cut lumber, he made his way to Hugs while keeping sight of the young man.
Under Ledmo's examination, he tried to get a feel for the boy's disposition, his mannerisms. Was he, in fact, acting suspiciously?
Either way, it was worth following up on. "Oi', Sir." Led said as he stepped up beside the other dwarf, his superior in this endeavor, his eyes never leaving the supposed human man with the eyes that blinked sidelong. "Pard'n my speakin' outta turn, but 'ow long 'as tha' one there been 'bout camp?" he asked, shield hand tugging at the braids of his beard, as he nodded in the young man's direction. "I only ask on the accoun' a' I think I saw an oddity ta 'is eyes, blinkin' sidelong like. Don' the scalies blink sidelong? Mightn' mean nutin', nutin' 'tall. Not sure wha'ever else might do so, an' I'm not e'en absolutely sure a' wha' I saw." He sucked at his squared off teeth for a second. "But then again, might mean sometin' af'er all, sometin' a might bit importan', iffen 'e be 'ere under false pretense. Whadaya think, Sir? Ya know 'im well 'nough t'be sure 'e ain' up ta no good?"
And Ledmo considers quickly what he might know about any other races that might have eyes similar to what he thinks he saw on this young man:
As the other man joins Corrin in dragging lumber back to the camp, the gnome looks up at him and nods in greeting. He turns his gaze forward, but speaks out of the corner of his mouth, glancing briefly at the man with every few words: "Say, uh, I just got here. Haven't heard much about what's going on here in camp." He pauses for a while, then says "You know anything I ought to know?"
The young man is silent for a moment, seeming to contemplate Corrin's question. Slowly shaking his head no, he said, slowly and deliberately, "Not that I can think of." The rest of the way back, he remained silent. Another soldier addresses Strorat's question, saying "Cap'n' Greensparrow's been here ever since this outpost was established. He's waitin' on healin' for his leg, so he'd probably still be in his camp.
Hugs cocked an eyebrow at Ledmo's statement. "Aye, now that ya mention it... I don' think I've seen 'im 'round here before." Ledmo noticed that the young man seemed visibly shaken, as if he was almost caught doing something. As the lumber group moved back into the camp and began to re-establish the perimeter wall, Hugs went to approach the young man. Pheara notes the dwarf departing from the main group to speak with the lad from her position outside the captain's tent. She cannot hear what they're saying from here, but the young man seems quite scared. Hugs appears to gesture towards the captain's tent, and as he does so, the young man bolts for the outside of the camp, sprinting into the swamp.
Ledmo recalls that, of the races embroiled in the war between Light and Dark, only Lizardfolk, Yuan-ti, and some Simic Hybrids blink sideways.
Swamp
As Ruby whispers her question, the boat drifts just close enough that the lizardfolk inside notices your position. A moment passes as you all stare at the lizardfolk and the lizardfolk stares back. "Molik di vyklade! Molik di vyklade!" The lizardfolk begins yelling in draconic, catching the attention of the other boats. Feldri lunges for the lizardfolk, capsizing his vessel.
*sees all the commotion around the captains tent* "i'm guessing that'll be his tent?" *doesn't wait for a response and heads off for the captain's tent*

Camp
Watching the dwarf and the young human and sensing the tension as they talk Pheara shifts her stance away from the relaxed pose she was in to that of a hunter, ready to jump to action at any moment. As soon as the boy runs she bursts into a sprint after him and attempts to get close enough to him before he disappears into the swamp to take his scent.
If nothing else, Ledmo Embervein was dutiful. And so when he made an accusation, he did not slink off to the barracks and allow his betters to deal with his questions, unless of course he was ordered to do so. No, Led had brought forward the suspicion, and he fully expected that Hugs would bring both him and this man before Captain Greensparrow, him to report what he thought he had witnessed, and the man to answer for it. No contrary order being given, Ledmo had accompanied Hugs along the short trail back to camp, a wary eye cast upon the suspected individual in response to what Hugs had told him, and when the lumber hauling troop was fully returned within the encampment's palisade and Hugs approached the man, Ledmo had gone with him, though slightly behind the other dwarf and to his right.
The young man's response to being questioned had been immediate; flight. Now, to allow a spy to escape was to read to your enemy a list; a listing of your provisions and supplies, a listing of your soldiers and their types and condition, a listing of your defenses and weaknesses thereof. Ledmo saw no choice in that moment but to consider this man an escaping infiltrator.
A Shieldwarden of the Dol'Eldric Delves had a voice like thunder. One had to, to be heard while training before the grand furnaces of that dwarven hold. And so when Ledmo bellowed out "STOP HIM!" at the top of his lungs, not speaking to anyone in particular but to the entire encampment, it was a fair bet that everyone there likely heard him.
At the moment of his yell, Ledmo had slammed one crescent bladed head of his battleaxe into the muddy ground, and on his gloved right hand's upswing he hooked the head of his handaxe holstered at his hip, his hand continuing up over his shoulder, allowing the shaft of the axe to slide up into a proper throwing position. The man didn't stop in his attempted flight, and neither did Ledmo stop in his attempt to halt him. He was aiming at the back of the man's thigh, but with no time to adequately aim, where it hit him would be where it hit him, if it hit him at all. Ledmo let the handaxe fly and then, grabbing the shaft of his battleaxe sticking up out of the mud beside him, gave chase.
Action: Attack, Handaxe, Thrown at disadvantage(assuming the man has made it beyond 20' by the time Ledmo throws) :Attack: 10 Damage: 8
Free Action: Draw Weapon, pulling battleaxe from the ground
Movement: 25', shortest route possible to the target
Corrin shrugs when the young man responds to his question. He still hoped to get some more information about this new assignment, more than what he'd been offered on arrival, but he hadn't really been expecting this young man to know anything of use to him. As soon as the group approaches the captain's tent and the young man turns to flee, however, Corrin's interest in him grows. Before Ledmo's shout has even left the Shieldwarden's lips, Corrin is running after the young man, his combat instincts kicking in. He doesn't give himself the time to consider why this man is trying to escape or where he plans to go - his flight proves that he does not belong here, and if he does not belong here, then one way or another he is an enemy. Corrin's short gnomish legs cannot carry him very far, but he doesn't need them to. Drawing his shortbow, Corrin lines up a shot and fires - hoping vaguely that the human survives so that he can be interrogated.
